Sup!

I'm known under the nicknames SiRaLeX/AlexGoMAD.

I'm a computer science expert, my subject area is software development. So I know a thing or two about programming. I've worked as a web developer for the past 3 years. My specialities are C++, CSS and SQL. Weird combination, I know!

Some random facts about me:

  • I liked to play with Korea or Iraq.
  • I have several XWiS RA2 Player rank #1s.
  • I played RA2 until the 6th January 2011, that's when I was permanently banned from XWiS.
  • I was permanently banned from XWiS not because of cheating but because I had sent a single fake game result after losing to a player that had disconnected/washed me several times in the past.
  • Not a fact about me, but zzattack wasn't permanently banned for sending double stats to the ladder: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/105201-wtf-is-this/
  • I was butt buddies with zzattack until he told Olaf that I had developed a fully working "ladder hack" which I used in that game for the first time.
  • I have then retaliated by developing and releasing the single most powerful hack for RA2 & YR, prompting Olaf to create the Auto SS patch.
  • Surprise: I'm also a skilled reverse engineer.
  • I have a strong preference for Valium (Diazepam) over any other Benzodiazepine.
  • I really like bands with female singers.

I have some Red Alert 2 videos on YouTube showing my playing expertise: https://www.youtube.com/user/AlexGoMAD/videos

My hobbies are bodybuilding and hacking. Weird combination, I know!

What's up guys? Please be nice to me, show me some love and drop me a few lines please!

That's a name I haven't seen in a while  :P  What brings you back my friend?

What web projects you been working on? You can help us out with some stuff if you like, or are you out to get us lol

Haha, thanks for the welcome, Grant!

Well, I've worked for a small web company that has its own CMS and offers services to small and middle sized businesses. So maintaining and extending the CMS, a lot custom extensions and web applications (product finders, calculators, forms). It was mainly PHP and while I'm good in it and like it for its ease of use, I dislike it at the same time for the insane amount of poor code you'll see written in PHP! I consider CSS and SQL my specialities and I also enjoy them the most, oh, and I'm excellent in jQuery too!

I guess I'm here because I have a lot of time on my hands again  :D  (can be good or bad) though not unlimited, since I'm starting school again.

I'm not here to get you  :)  I have nothing against CnCNet and think it's a cool project. Haven't played yet. Remember, I'm not a YR player but I'd like to play RA2 sometime again and perhaps get another rank #1!

Cool man sounds good, you should check out node and Angular in your spare time, pretty cool things

BTW I clicked that video thinking I had actually beaten you on Yuri's...  :(

Why do you think hacking is a brag-worthy thing? Every hacker, to the last one, is a moron unworthy of anyone's attention (except that of the banhammer-wielding dudes).

Why do you think hacking is inherently bad? Educate yourself!

Thanks for the welcome, though...  :D

So, exactly what kind of "hacking" do you partake in, then? The binary bowel diving to modify compiled executables that us cncnet folks quite regularly undertake, or the security/website stuff that's something totally different and unrelated?

I'd actually prefer someone else who knows me, to answer that question for me. I think I can pass for both, though, I am not a specialist in either but rather a generalist. I just want to say that my intention is to never hurt anybody through anything that I do.

From what I have seen throughout the years, hacking skills are very frowned upon in this community, yet they are very common, since almost every 2nd or 3rd member has some sort degree or at the very least extensive background in computer science.

This goes especially if you're a player that's capable of getting rank #1 in RA2, in which case the smallest slip-up showing that you have used a relay, will get you permanently banned in an instant - you don't even have to be cheating in any kind or way.

I have never used my hacking skills to gain an unfair advantage in a game over my opponent, even though I could have, but that would have taken the fun away for me.

I consider Node.JS terrible, you're better off just sticking to PHP.  :D  Do your game servers run on Node.js...?!  :(

PHP does not support multi-threading (out of the box). Node's event loop == <3. Our ladder is built on Node, Mongo and Angular.

Are you saying Node.JS supports multithreading?! Not that it has to, PHP doesn't have to, either.

No, but between the event loop and async foundation - Node has great advantages over PHP (as a purely synchronous language); especially when handling thousands of consecutive requests through one process.

My argument here is against your, "better of sticking to PHP" statement; I'm suggesting that there's a good place for either framework and choosing the proper tool for the job should be valued over "my language is b3tt3r y0". That said, PHP was my first love :)

Also, welcome! Perhaps, you'd be interested in contributing to the ladder :P

Event loop? Is that when your wife constantly whines about everything, everyday?

Yeah, the more the merrier... hurry the fk up! :D Hey Alex, can you secretly add a function/trigger or whatever the fk u guys call it, so that when the ladder sees 'fir3w0rx', it automatically adds a few extra points to it? Thanks, much appreciated.

No... I'd like to think of an event loop as something that waits for an event to happen and then dispatches everything necessary to the appropriate place to handle the event while waiting for the next event to happen.

Think of the girls that operate the phone in your local police station as being an event loop and the police guys as the so called event handlers.

For example, there's an event loop in the hack I've made. It waits for the reveal/reshroud/radar hotkey to be pressed and then goes on about it's job actually performing the requested action. And perhaps it's much more complex than that but that's the idea.

And... no.  :P

For those just chiming in: My introductory post is on page 18 (http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?topic=3.255#msg33076)!

You can think of the Node event loop however you'd like. I'd suggest looking up how it actually works though. ;)

hint: The Event loop doesn't wait for tasks to finish before moving on to the next (thanks to the async foundation I mentioned).

PS: these are probably things one should know before trashing Node :P

Well, you need to learn to read.

Show me where I said that the event loop waits for tasks to finish before moving on to dispatching the next event. The event loop has to wait in any case, that's its job, it can't just randomly dispatch events that have not yet happened so it has to wait for the next event to happen before dispatching it to the appropriate event handler.

Your thinking that the event loop can just start an unlimited amount of tasks is faulty as well, you should probably read your own link. There's a physically limited amount of tasks/events that can be handled simultaneously.

Node.JS might be alright for some niche applications, but really I don't see it fit the bill for a game server. Was this your idea?

Your ignorance on the subject is shining ever so brightly. I strongly urge you to research further. Tasks are handled async (not sync as you continue to misinform), which allows the event loop to handle and dispatch (yes) a nearly unlimited number of tasks. If you'd like more information, I'll gladly aide off thread as this has nothing to do with welcoming users to the community :)

Well, I'd have hoped you'd meanwhile realize that to handle X number of events at the same time (at the same time = simultaneously) it also takes X number of threads to do the work. And I'm sure you know this.

Here's a pretty easy to understand analogy. The operator at your local police station waits for calls about events to come in, and dispatches police cars to handle those events. Now the police station only has 6 police cars available, but events keep coming in rapidly, so you suddenly have 10 events. The operator can only dispatch those 6 police cars to handle the first 6 events and then has to wait for them to come back to dispatch them to the rest of the backlogged events.

Node.JS isn't that much different than this.

I think you're getting too hung up on the wording "the operator at your local police station waits for calls about events to come in", of course you could argue that the operator is not actually "waiting", since she isn't actually waiting for anything specific but just doing her job, right? She also won't "wait" in the sense of taking a nap when all police cars are currently dispatched but will keep accepting new phone calls and coordinating units. The matter of fact is that while all police cars are currently dispatched those very new events coming in will have to wait before they can be actioned.

So yeah, there is a very limited number of tasks that can be handled simultaneously. But since I know you'll now say that 1 police officer is enough and that he can just "teleport" his car to the next crime scene because he won't be "waiting" for the criminal at the first crime scene to get on the ground so that he can arrest him, I'll let this be it from my side, so it's cool, bro.

Why wouldn't it fit the bill for a ladder?

Hello everyone, I'm Lavender Moon. I enjoy working on game engines (especially modular ones), and love programming in C#. I'm a huge fan of Command and Conquer, especially Tiberian Dawn and C&C3. I also love Dune 2000. I started playing C&C back on the N64, and it's easily one of my favorite series of all time.

Greetings.  I just wanted to pop in and tell my recent exp.  I had reloaded Windows 7  onto my computer  ( Windows 10 was undesirable for me)  and  much to my disappointment  Tiberian Sun  and Red Alert 2  became unresponsive.  :(

So    I went ahead  and  reinstalled Tiberian Sun from scratch  then ran  the patch  "Tiberian Sun patch 2.03"  and it  then worked perfectly!  :D

Quick  question,  should I try and  re install Red Alert 2  and is there a similar patch for it?

  • 2 weeks later...

Whats up everyone, I'm kalo. I play alot of cnc, and have for several years now. I'm also very well versed on forums. I'm pretty much looking for a community that I can connect with players on origin while we play some cnc.

I look forward to meeting you guys and having some good discussions.

Kalo
