New cnc-ddraw release (Red Alert 1 & C&C95)

Recommended Posts

Added some new features such as saving position of the window and alt+enter to switch between window/full screen.

https://github.com/CnCNet/cnc-ddraw/releases

Red Alert Config: http://downloads.cncnet.org/addons/ra-config.7z

C&C95 Config: http://downloads.cncnet.org/addons/td-config.7z

Download and extract the files into your game folder. (You may not want to extract ddraw.ini, otherwise you may override your settings)

dumb question, but does this update all the the renderers (OpenGL, GDI, DDrawCompat), or is only one of these optimized with this release?  I could not find any documentation with your archive, so I'm not exactly sure which one to choose in order to see these changes.

OpenGL and GDI have all the new updates such as ALT+ENTER to switch from window to fullscreen, trying that feature should be the easiest way to test if it works.

Note: if you run it in a window with a custom res that isn't supported in fullscreen then it wont switch

Hey Funky, are you able to place the "MaxFPS" setting from ddraw.ini to the config tool?  I noticed a bug in which setting the maxfps higher than 120 will revert it back to the default when launching the tool.  I personally use the maxfps setting to increase/decrease my scrolling speed, and to fix the crackling audio while using the HD Music pack.

I don't have any plans to add it back, nope. Scroll speed has a much better solution these days and HD music pack I never tried, so I don't know what it's about.

Try OpenGL + vsync instead

I think I'll just stick with modifying ddraw.ini itself instead of using the tool, since vsync always causes lag for me.

By the way, is there a way to stretch the main menu to fit my screen?  I swear it used to fill the whole screen, but now it only takes up about half of it.  I've always kept my resolution at the same (1024x768).

there used to be some background images that the old config placed into the game folder, but those were removed

New nightly build with Direct3D renderer is available now (could need some testers)

Happy to test :)

i7, GTX 1070, Windows 10 Home.

Also have a question.. any idea why the frame rate limit / mouse sensitivity doesn't make any difference? Game still scrolls too fast to be playable :(

I am using RA95 1.06c R3, your latest CnC-DDraw nightly build, I have both Limit frame rate and adjust mouse sensitivity ticked although I have tried all variations and I still get lightening fast scrolling.

The frame rate limiter doesn't slow down the scroll speed anymore with the latest cnc-ddraw since that was a pretty bad solution from many years ago. It actually slowed down the whole game, not just the scroll (which ended up causing lag in online games).

I assume you're talking about CnC95, not RA95? The CnC95 campaign doesn't have the scroll speed limiter patch yet, so you'll have to enable a workaround I added to cnc-ddraw until nyerguds updates his installer.

Add the following line to ddraw.ini

Quote

sleep=5

You can choose a number between 1 and 16, higher number means slower scroll speed. It's probably the best to keep the number as low as possible to prevent slow downs during the gameplay.

auto is using direct3d 9 now, I didn't try recording with it yet. Maybe you need to use "game capture" for it to work with obs

How do I make a unit deploy like in RA2? I can't find an art.ini to tell the game which frames to use for deploy.

Hey everyone.  I've been working on making the switch over to Manjaro and everything is great so far.  Unfortunately, I have been unable to get CNCnet working for Red Alert. I have tried the Manjaro package and the Windows package via Wine, and I have Wine mono and about as many other Wine packages that I can think of. I am running what is pretty much a fresh install of Manjaro XFCE on an AMD A8 based laptop with 8gb of RAM and plenty of space on the SSD. These are my two problems in more detail, I appreciate any advice or direction in advance:
      1. Manjaro Package Installer: Everything seems to process correctly up until the very end. The installer hangs at "Finishing Installation... Installing .NET framework 2.0" for about a minute then it just goes away and CNCnet will not open via the program shortcut. I've run the script at the bottom of my post a few times to retry the process, but no dice.
      2. Windows .exe installer via Wine. The installation goes on without a hitch, and Red Alert is able to open successfully.  Every time I pick the "Online" option, the application crashes without an error. I've tried selecting several different resolution and rendering options.

      Hi guys,
played this game for many years and have used the Cncnet client for RA1 for about 18-20 months. Recently purchased a new platform with Windows10. Same internet connection. Client loads okay but regularly I'm getting disconnected with the client showing "ping timeout". Internet settings have been re-booted, I don't have any firewall settings on at this present time but the problem persists. If I loads the client and go into the game lobby I have around a minute to get into a multiplayer game before none of my choices register with other players. Text, readying up etc etc.
Some help would be greatly appreciated. I have removed the RA files a couple of times, tried most things but the same issue persists.
When I do manage to get into a game, it lasts and for some reason I can hold out a game with no issues...….

      Many thanks,

      Hi fellow C&C fans,
I've been trying for a couple of days to get C&C 95 working on my Windows 10 Laptop with no luck.
I've followed FunkyFr3sh's instructions (C&C 1 (Tiberian Dawn) Installation on Windows 10) and downloaded and tried a few different versions i could find of Nyerguds patch with no avail.
Depending on the settings/compatability modes i try, i get the following outcomes:
1: Game opens, goes to play the Westwood intro and freezes about 2 seconds in (as some of the ripples appear before the text). No audio plays. Games goes non-responding.
2: Stops at a black screen.
3: Opens the main menu instantly, but clicking on any button causes the game to go Non-responding.
Can someone please help me work out how to get it running?
If anyone knows how to get the DOS version running through DOSBOX (with full Audio & music) I would be more than happy with that, but ideally the C&C 95 version.
      Thanks in advance!
