The root cause is that by default VMWare fusion remaps ctrl to something else. 1. Open your VM 2. Navigate through the mac bar: VMWare Fusion -> Settings... -> Keyboard & Mouse 3. Disable Keyboard shortcuts and Mac host shortcuts until ctrl works in game That's what worked for me... but I don't remember which exact setting I disabled.
