cnc-ddraw causes building sidebar items disappear

Hi, everyone.

I'm new to these forums so please excuse me if this is not the right place to post this.

When running the RA1 with pure ddraw (http://hifi.iki.fi/cnc-ddraw/) no items appear on the building sidebar. I know the project is probably in an abandoned state, still by some posts I understand many people use it, so maybe someone has seen this problem before.

This happens ONLY when I run RA1 directly with ddraw in RA's main dir. If I delete ddraw.dll or run RA via ra95-303-hires-launcher-alpha2.exe (with ddraw) all works just fine. ra95-hires is great, but still pure ddraw offers the unique possibility to run the game in windowed mode or under emulated low res that I'm interested in.

I saw there was another project called Arda (http://www.stuffhost.de/files/redalert/arda.html) which embeds both hires and ddraw mods, but so far I couldn't make it run stably since as soon as I start any mission the game freezes after a few seconds (probably similar issue described in http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?topic=889.0).

Any suggestions on the solution to the bug or different settings/setup recommendations?

My RA1 installation:

- Windows 7 x64

- MIX Cleaner applied (http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cncstuff/tfd_ra_main_patch.rar)

- RA1 TFD v3.03 (http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cncstuff/ra303patch.exe)

- ddraw.dll (http://hifi.iki.fi/cnc-ddraw/ddraw.dll)

Thanks and regards

seems weird. what happens if you launch RA95.hires..... -w 640 -h 400    ?

what videocard do you use?

[edit]

you can and *MUST* use the hires with the cnc-ddraw.

Anyway, if you are only getting this issue with ddraw, you can disable it by deleting ddraw.dll, and add Win98 compatibility with the game to avoid crash.

*DO NOT EVER* use compatibility with cnc-ddraw.
