[Discussion] Are the Soviets underpowered against Yuri?
hardman replied to Sharbel's topic in Red Alert 2
Soviets really need superweapons when playing against a decent yuri player. And of course desos. Without those two things it can be pretty tough. There should be some videos on youtube of pro sov vs yuri games. Try and give them a watch. -
Hi, If you have 'wsock32.dll' in your installation folder delete it and try again.
-
Hi David, remember you quite well from yr/ -auf- AFAIK yes to both questions (eventually). And you can already donate, but i believe something was also mentioned about being able to donate to specific projects/developers. Not sure if you can do this yet tho.

Cheating (using trainers/modified units) in multiplayer
hardman replied to GoldenGonaz's topic in Red Alert 2
President and Map hack were the most common cheats back in the day. Might be fun for you to use but certainly not the people you are playing against. Try to have fun learning to beat people properly. -
Had some gg's last night and played this map 2 v 2 v 2 v 2. Was fun but the far left and far right have obvious advantages as they only have one side to defend. Guess it should only be played 4 v 4.

I receive a white screen when CnCNet, Yuri's Revenge launches a game Disable ts-ddraw in client options. Update your video drivers.
-
I receive Unable to set video mode error on Windows 10 with the origin version of YR [*]First try removing RA2MD.ini from your game directory [*]Set your game resolution to the same as your desktop (Go to client options and click Display) [*]Ensure your video drivers are up to date. Especially if you have just updated to Windows 10.
-
I get a black screen on Windows 10 when trying to play Yuri's Revenge [*]Set renderer to TS-DDRAW in options (or until a renderer that works) [*]Save, try a skirmish game via the client until the black screen is gone.

If it was working fine before and you have reverted your system to exactly as it was at that point, then that would suggest it is a problem with bandicam? Did they release an update?
-
I think he means the numbers on the previews?
-
Correct me if i'm wrong but as there is no QM option (yet) people will be able to pick and chose the maps they play for ladder games. But i agree when QMing is an option, the random map choices will need to be looked at carefully.

Hi, Try following these steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFO1fEhoPDY If that doesn't work use this method: 1. Copy the directory Red Alert 2 (Typically found in C:\Program Files (x86)) to somewhere outside of Program Files 2. Download the graphics patch from http://www.stuffhost.de/files/cnc/ and extract it into the directory that you just moved 3. Rename Yuri's Revenge to gamemd.exe, then run the patch to patch the game (for ra2, rename to game.exe) 4. Download http://bitpatch.com/ddwrapper.html zip file and extract the files to the directory that you've patched the game in 5. Edit aqrit.cfg in notepad and change these two settings to 1 as in below: NoVideoMemory = 1 forcedirectdrawemulation = 1 6. Create a shortcut to the game and move it to your desktop 7. Go to properties and in 'Target' add at the end after " add -win example Target: "C:\Users\Roberto\Desktop\Red Alert 2\gamemd.exe" -win note the space between gamemd.exe" and -win 8. In the same Properties Tab: Compatibility : Win Xp Service pack 2 (Seems to be most stable) Reduced colour mode : 16bit Run as Administrator 9. (Optional) Edit .ini file to change the resolution 10. Play the game

I got it working on my Win10 setup Would you mind sharing your experience for the benefit of others?

You should be able to find plenty of good videos by searching yourself just on youtube or on xwis forums. It should be easy enough to learn some basic build orders to ensure you have good economy and can keep up. There are no game rooms specific for novices. If you are serious about trying to compete with the better players, i would watch some videos and read some topics then just play. Then play some more. You will pick up a lot just by playing the better players.

CnCnet already supports YR. Ra2 is in the works AFAIK.
-
I am from UK yes. Try looking through some youtube channels of good players for tips. Some good players also sometimes stream. Look out for posts on the forums both here and on xwis for when people are streaming live. Example of good streamer: http://www.twitch.tv/cncsteffster/profile Example of a good channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBuVakhp7VXmVisli4PH5mw Try searching 'red alert 2 pro game' / 'yuri's revenge pro game' or something similar. There should be a lot of videos, some even with commentary. Also it might be worth looking through some strategy topics on the XWIS forums. There are some helpful topics, especially the pinned ones: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/forum/28-strategy-and-tactics/ You can also try searching for 'videos' on xwis to see some topics with links. Good luck, and don't be afraid of asking for help or losing to better players!

CnCnet just requires the game installed. Registering your serial is not necessary. Just run the installer from http://cncnet.org/yuris-revenge and you're good to go. XWIS requires you to add your serial to your XWIS game account (easily done), before playing Ra2 online. And yes, the product code should be the serial https://help.ea.com/uk/article/finding-your-serial-number-for-an-origin-purchase/
-
Origin does not have a server to play online with. You have a choice of servers to play on. Put honestly, for ra2 and yuris revenge: Cncnet- your best bet for yuris revenge, currently the most active server XWIS- your best bet for Ra2 It is not possible to cheat on cncnet, but watch out for modded maps. XWIS has an anti cheat client and bans players that cheat. Gameranger is another server but has no anti cheat support. As funky already said, any version of the game (disc, origin download, XWIS download) should work with any server. The real benefit of origin offering the games for free is to get your hands on the free serial which will enable you to play ra2 on XWIS (requires valid serial) as well as cncnet.
-
No you need a copy of RA2 and YR installed.
-
The game was not designed to be played on such high resolutions. Bear in mind the game is 15 years old, people were playing on 800 x 600!
-
Everything about this topic is just horrible. Closed.
-
I play sometimes on username Nick[NRA]
-
Not sure what you are trying to say? Are you experiencing lag?
-
Actually, XWIS is still contributed to by EA. Nobody has any say over who can and cannot play on XWIS other than XWIS. You are banned from the XWIS server, not the game. Your only hope would be to contact Olaf. Good luck with that seeing as everybody knows what you done. Anyway, this is completely irrelevant to cncnet...
