HD Music Pack for Red Alert (Version 2 with Stereo)
Lightning Hunter replied to Lightning Hunter's topic in Red Alert
What I'm getting at here is that I can create a stereo version of Voice Rhythm 2 without the error, and release it as a patch. -

But I'm guessing it isn't the stereo high-quality version, is it? -

Hehe, I never noticed that error... Not sure it is worth uploading a whole new version of the soundtrack, since I don't think it is noticeable unless you know it's there in the first place. -
Sorry for the late response, but I forgot to tell you that I already did try 44100 WAV files, and the static clicking is not any better. The clicking sounds only go away if I revert the tracks to mono. Since nobody else seems to be experiencing this, it may be my particular hardware setup. As such, I will not change the HD music pack at all. I will simply use Mono menu and score tracks in my own install to avoid this issue.

Where can I get that? I don't have the Saturn version. -

Good point. I'll remove it right now. Yes. -
I noticed that the "Deadly War - Turkey - Invasion" mission gives me a "mission failed" as soon as the choppers land at the very beginning. Why is this?
-
Well, unless someone knows a fix, I guess I am going to have to use Mono tracks for the menu and victory themes. What happened to Iran, btw? I sent him a PM and asked a few questions on these forums, but there has been no response from him.

HD Music Pack for Tiberian Dawn (in-game music)
Lightning Hunter replied to Lightning Hunter's topic in C&C 1
Yes, the menu and victory themes were obtained from there. Like I said in the first post, there are no tracks missing from this release. As for the topic of lyrics/vocals, what Blade says is true (I just didn't feel like typing all that in the first post). Frank Klepacki himself confirmed for me a few weeks ago that the versions with vocals are how he intended the tracks to be. The game producers decided that the vocals interfered with the speaking/commands in the game, so they had Frank remove them, and kept the originals as alternate/hidden tracks. Unfortunately, the non-vocal versions in high quality do not exist anymore. They were probably deleted after being added to the game in lower quality. I personally notice a huge difference! I uploaded a youtube video to compare the tracks side by side, so you can hear for yourself. Rain in the night especially sounds different, with the original having so much feedback in it. I was playing a game with all my new Stereo tracks, and noticed that for some reason the score screen after beating a level has horrible static sounds. The main menu also has a hint of this problem when you load a game or start a new game. These static clicking sounds were not around with Mono tracks. Also, the Stereo tracks work perfectly during actual game play. It's only in the menu or score screens that the distortion occurs. This happens in both Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn. Any ideas?

Command & Conquer Tiberian Dawn and Covert Operations come with low quality, Mono 22kHz AUD files. This pack replaces all of the in-game music tracks with Stereo, 48kHz, high quality versions. These tracks were taken from various sources, and are the best quality I could find on the internet. I was able to convert the WAV files to the C&C .AUD format using Blade's awesome new program, Audioset. Audioset allows Stereo WAV files to be converted to Stereo .AUD files, which are recognized just fine by C&C. 39 Tracks are included, which updates all the music from C&C and Covert Operations, as well as the hidden extra tracks. Even "Ride of the Valkyries" has a higher quality version, and "I Am" is replaced with the extended original version. INSTALLATION: Extract all these files to your main C&C Tiberian Dawn folder. The music in the game will then be automatically replaced by the high quality versions! NOTE: There are 5 tracks in here that now have vocals: Act on Instinct, Stop Them, In Trouble, No Mercy, and Just Do It Up. I tried to find high quality versions that do NOT have vocals to remain loyal to the tracks that came with C&C, but unfortunately, they do not exist (I contacted Frank Klepacki about this). As such, I used the only high quality versions available, which have vocals. If you do NOT like the vocals, you can disable these 5 tracks using the following method: drag the file "themes.ini" out of the folder called "No Vocals", and overwrite themes.ini in your C&C folder. Alternatively, you can open up themes.ini, and disable individual files by changing "HasAlternate=Yes" to "HasAlternate=No". Keep in mind that if you disable the tracks with vocals, the original low quality versions will be used instead. Oh. My. God! That would be beyond awesome! It's already released: http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?topic=4395.0 Does nobody check the Red Alert forums? I'm getting very few comments, and I thought people would be excited about a new high quality in-game soundtrack. O_o

HD Music Pack for Red Alert (Version 2 with Stereo)
Lightning Hunter replied to Lightning Hunter's topic in Red Alert
Oh, common... I don't mind you adding support for PCM audio, but is it really necessary to mention it here in this thread? People might read your second post and think this pack is low quality garbage. I have personally compared the in-game versions side by side to the originals, and can't tell any difference. Kind of like what Nyergud's said, it's like comparing 320kbps MP3 to FLAC audio. Of course FLAC is better quality on paper, but the average human ear can't tell the difference (I certainly can't). The AUD format is fine. I don't plan on making a third release, unless someone finds higher quality versions of some of the tracks already included in here (like Snake, which is admittedly lower quality than the rest, since nobody has the original version). -
Thanks to Blade and his new program Audioset, I can proudly present the highest quality in-game soundtrack for Red Alert and the Expansions that we will ever receive! This pack will replace all those old, low-quality 22kHz Mono audio files in the game with 48kHz, Stereo. All of these tracks were taken from various sources to get the best quality available (even Fogger has a high quality version that was not available on the Red Alert music CD by Frank Klepacki). All tracks are replaced, including the menu, credits, and victory screen. This is Version 2 of the release. The first version had only high quality Mono tracks, and is obsolete. It should be replaced with this version. Simply extract all the files to your main Red Alert folder, and all the music in the game will sound much, much better. Well, this is strange. I compiled a list.txt as Nyergud's suggested in the other thread, converted ALL my WAV files to Microsoft WAV using Audacity, and ran a batch file for all the WAV files at the same time. Mysteriously, they all converted! Even Vector1a was converted. I have no idea what was going on before... It was previously telling me they weren't valid files. :O Anyway, I am currently working on a high quality Red Alert Stereo soundtrack!
-
This method is not an option, because it would take hours to convert all the files that Audioset doesn't read. Also, I'm sure this method would reduce the quality of the files. There must be another way.
-
Just tried it from here: http://www.radgametools.com/binkhlp2.htm No luck. I still have the same issue.
-
Windows 7 64-bit. Did you convert the file using the same method I did, with the export button?
-
Here is the Microsoft WAV version (link below). Once again, I opened the first version I uploaded in Audacity 1.3.14-beta, and clicked export. I selected WAV (Microsoft) Signed 16-bit PCM. The file was still not recognized, so I guess the "fact chunk" was not removed by Audacity in this export process. The strange part is that I used a generic WAV converter when I first created these WAV files, so there should be no "fact chunk". Some of these WAV files are recognized by Audioset, while others are not. All of them were converted using the same program. http://www.mediafire.com/download/28cjnf029c98o6f/vector1aSIGNED.zip Edit: To eliminate all possibilities, I decided to install the latest version of Audacity, 2.1.1, but the results were the same. The version of Audacity is not the issue, in case anyone is wondering.
-
Yeah, I have no clue how to type that out in a batch file. on the command line, type dir /b *.wav > list.txt This will create a file called list.txt containing a list of all .wav files in that folder. Then you just need to open list.txt, paste the conversion command on the start of each line and remove the .wav at the end, (which is something that can be done rather easily with search & replace on any text editing tool slightly more advanced than Notepad), rename to .bat, and run it. Ah, yes; not sure why I never thought of that! Of course, I still have to copy/paste the command before each line, but that is still faster.
-
I used Audacity to export Vector1a.wav as a Microsoft WAV signed 16-bit, and Audioset still did not recognize it.
-
If I convert all these WAV files to "Microsoft signed" files, will they lose quality in the conversion process? I don't want to convert these files too many times, or they might start sounding bad.
-
Some WAV files do not seem to be recognized. An example is Vector (Vector1a.wav). Audioset calls it an invalid WAV file, even though it is PCM, 48kHz, 16-bit, Stereo. I uploaded it so you can see for yourself: http://www.mediafire.com/download/nb4xs3wafknkugj/vector1a.zip
