Website Connection Issues When Using Tunnel Servers for Multiplayer Games

Hi CNCNet Community,

I’m hosting a website that tracks multiplayer game stats for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, and it connects to CNCNet tunnel servers to gather live player data. However, I’ve noticed intermittent connection issues where my website cannot retrieve data from the servers.

Here’s what I’ve observed:

  1. The issue is sporadic—it works fine at times but fails without any noticeable changes.
  2. When the connection fails, I receive a timeout error in my website’s logs.
  3. I’ve confirmed that my hosting provider isn’t blocking the IPs of the tunnel servers.
  4. I’ve tried adjusting the timeout settings in my API calls but still encounter the issue.

Could this be related to load balancing on CNCNet tunnel servers, rate limits, or something else? Is there a recommended way to maintain a stable connection to the servers for data retrieval?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

How long ago did you start noticing the issues when connecting to the servers for gathering data? Do you connect to the tunnels directly or via our status page?

Do you have a link to your site so we can check/potentially whitelist it if it's required.

CnCNet does not maintain many/if any of the tunnels so the way that you would connect to them is down to whomever set them up and if they have done it correctly.

Thanks for getting back to me! Here’s some additional context to address your questions:

  1. When Did the Issues Start?

    • I started noticing the connection issues about two weeks ago. Initially, the data retrieval was stable, but the intermittent timeouts began appearing without any changes on my end.
  2. Connection Method:

    • I’m connecting directly to the tunnel servers via their IPs and ports using API calls from my website. I’m not using the CNCNet status page for this process.
  3. Website Link:

    • Here’s the link to my website: https://capprocutapk.com/. If a whitelist is required for better connectivity, I’d really appreciate that!
  4. Tunnel Server Setup:

    • I understand that CNCNet may not directly maintain the tunnels. If the connection stability depends on how they were configured, is there a list of recommended practices or specific tunnel server operators I could reach out to?

Additionally, is there a chance this could be related to rate limiting, or should I consider retry mechanisms to handle transient connection failures better?

Let me know if you need further details or logs to troubleshoot. Thanks again for your support!
