  1. A lot depends on the map and other factors. But i think the balance between Sovs and Allies is quite good. Better than Ra2 imo where i think sovs>allies more so. Yuri is op and always has been in most peoples opinions. But to a certain extent sw counter and allies in long game have more of an edge vs yuri than sovs do.
  2. Where are you downloading from?
  3. Ok so was nearing the end of a game and got disconnected from cncnet. Tried to reopen and when the updater appears i get the message "update failed....Please check your connection, anti-virus and firewall settings." I haven't changed any settings and have been playing fine all night. I turned my firewall off to test and still get same error message. I don't currently have an anti virus program installed. Seems to be working now after giving it a few minutes. Not sure what cause it?
  4. Looks like an interesting map. Though infantry rush in Ra2/yr doesnt work against any half decent player. Better to just get tanks ASAP
  5. game speed if quite different as well leading to different tactics. For example tanks build quicker and you need more miners per war etc.
  6. Just to jump in on this topic i've so far been experiencing lag on anything above a 1 v 1. 2 v 2 was laggy but playable, 3 v 3 unplayable- but perhaps a different type of lag to the stuttery one you speak of, i think thats normal to a certain degree at this point. It is more like the traditional lag experienced through slow connections on other servers. Other players seemed desperate before the game start to not have more than 4 players and they were certain it would lag. I've not yet played enough games to back this up- could just be one player having a rubbish internet connection.
  7. Yep i know its a different issue (i assume a connection one). Just played first game with no issues. Thanks for your help.
  8. Yep sorry you explained it perfectly well in your first post, i just misread it. trying to test online now. Only managed to try one game so far and other player didnt load, hoping the problem was on his end not mine!
  9. Thanks for the reply. This worked perfectly (so far for skirmish offline).
  10. OK so here's my problem. I am on Windows XP SP3 and I have both the origin and XWIS versions of YR installed. I have run the cncnet installer to both installations. I can join the CnCnet lobby fine. However, when i try to start a game through cncnet i get a main.exe error (skirmish and online). Both versions load up fine outside of cncnet but i had to change the executables to compatibility mode for Windows 98 to stop the main.exe error. After some troubleshooting, we discovered that changing the game.dat file to gamemd.exe and setting compatibility to windows 98 also allowed us to launch the game with no error. Problem is i cant change the game.dat file to compatibility mode for windows 98 without changing the file extension (the compatibility tab doesn't exist) and it is needed as .dat to start the game through cncnet (i assume). Grant has contacted someone for a workaround, but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas? Maybe i haven't explained it very well but any help would be greatly appreciated. I guess i am the first (known) person to encounter this problem as there probably aren't many still using XP?!
