I don't see how this is relevant. It's quite obvious that what CCHyper describes is an optimization (not just one, but two) in favour of size, talk about memory footprint, over speed. BTW, the MSVC compiler supported explicitly deriving enums from arbitrary integral types, since I can think of. So does C++11.

Hello X3M, Rampastring and cn2mc, it is nice to meet you! As for Rampastring, I'd be interested to hear what your nickname is all about? Is it like saying Rampabyte? Either way, you have high aims! -

I'm a champion as are you. Not because of the rank #1s and hall of fames, but because of the obstacles that you overcome and the effort that you exert to find what it is to be your best and the aim to do it because you decide to and you recognize it is your right and your responsibility to do so. -

As a pro one can probably beat both RA2 campaigns in approx 2 at most 3 hours (overcautious estimation) combined. -
I concur with LavenderMoon. I'd still go with Boost.Serialization, though. If you want it to be noob-tamper safe, you could add a checksum or encrypt it. Among other niceties it supports versioning (as does ProtoBuf ). Sure ProtoBuf would work too but it's more a binary format for pushing messages over the network. :ranting: Comedy!

Yep! I have never used it myself. I made it after I got banned for "ladder hack"... Ridiculous! Fair Play & Auto SS = GG FTW! I agree with both CCHyper/Blade as well as LavenderMoon! Both make valid points. I don't doubt either of the guys competence. LavenderMoon has helped me find a function to redraw areas in RA2/YR. This is another good point by LavenderMoon. I just want to add, while INI might be a little clumsy (it's certainly possible) you guys can look into Boost.Serialization. It's an in typical boost manner template laden way to get your objects from your in memory representation to a xml/json/whatever represention that can be stored on disk which can be just as easily de-serialized again to your objects. I want to add that it is also portable, meaning that you won't have issues sharing "save games" between little-endian and big-endian machines. Sadly it also uses some C macros, AFAIK you can work around that, though, if you dislike it. WARNING: Don't even think of abusing it for storing program setttings/options. I've done that once and I recall that it wasn't really pretty. It's for serializing objects, after all. Right?

Avril Lavigne - One Of Those Girls ... She's one of those girls, they're nothing but trouble, just one look and now you're seeing double. Before you know it she'll be gone, off to the next one. She's so good that you won't see it coming, she'll take you for a ride and you'll be left with nothing. You'll be broken, she'll be gone, off to the next one... Good old times man, I remember when "The Best Damn Thing" came out in 2007, I was listening it up and down. Sitting in 12th grade, school year was just ending and teacher was telling some boring stories. I put my legs on the table and put one of the songs from this record on full volume with earphones on my mp3 player (yeah, back then dedicated mp3 sticks with 512 MB were the shit, lol). I'll never forget the look the German teacher gave me and the entire class staring at me while I was jamming out to Avril. -
Here's a translation (give the guy a break, I didn't know basic English either when I was 9 years old):

Working code for efficient LCW and XORDelta compression.
SiRaLeX replied to Blade's topic in The Tech Center
Thank you, Blade for claryfing! But what are we supposed to do with these algorithms without the corresponding decompression functions? Or is this rather just for modding purposes because the game obviously has those decompression functions and there's better compression algorithms out there for general use? Either way, XORDelta surely can be pretty handy for general use sometimes (file formats with a lot of overhead). Cool cakes! -

Hello Tahj and Nyerguds my pleasure to get to know you a little bit better. Hey Matt well, if you're addicted to shitty beer, try Lyrica (Pregabalin)! Sure, it's expensive at about 2 € per 300mg cap but I assure you, you certainly won't miss your beer if you take two of them. Just don't take it for too long  'cause tolerance to it builds super quickly (unlike what the Wikipedia article claims - recently, past 3 years, more and more people abuse it here, snort it and I've even heard of people pinning it and it's often taken to potentiate opiates too). Why am I even recommending this? It's actually terrible! You will want/need more and before you'll notice it'll start making you pretty dumb overall, completely kill your sex drive and make you literally feel nothing anymore. At least that's what I felt like after 3 months of daily use. Just use it to help you get off the alcohol and find another hobby, like Bodybuilding and then stop taking it slowly. Worked for me, after all. Read the RESULTS/DISCUSSION on it regarding alcohol withdrawal: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20078487 As for the farts, do you eat a lot of beans? Humans can't really digest the type of sugar found in beans (Raffinose) and while some other veggies contain it too, it's not nearly in the quantity as in beans. It gives me really bad gas too, so I stay away from beans. Sure, they're tasty but I can't be farting in the GYM also the gas bloating makes me feel really bad too. There's some enzyme pills you can get though, that enable you to digest beans somewhat properly (haven't tried them myself). I really wish you the best, Matt! -

SiRaLeX replied to Blade's topic in The Tech Center
Please excuse my ignorance, but, what is this good/useful for?! Binary delta compression and Lempel-Ziv-Welch? On a second note, Blade obviously knows how to write in C and use static_cast. If you just compiled the code as C (which it is) instead of C++ you wouldn't even need to cast from "void *" to "uint8 *" in the first place. -
Intel user here (Broadwell HD5500), lolololol! With all the same problems.

Hello G's and Gents, Homies and Homettes! What are your ultimate career goals? What do you want to become when you've fully grown up, why and how old are you? For me, I'm a Computer Science Expert and I'm 25 now but I really actually want to become a Physician. My GP and Psychiatrists have helped me a lot throughout my life. I currently have a loving Psychiatrist that was a Bodybuilder once too, he takes care of me and gives me tips so I don't hurt myself. I really love helping people and what better way is there to help someone than to help them the best you can with their health? My dream would be becoming an Anesthesiologist, Psychiatrist or perhaps a General Practitioner (I already practice on myself, so far, no lasting harm caused ). What about you? What are your dreams? Remember, you've only got one life and life is a race. So, run fast when you know where you're going. If you believe you can, you're half way there! Let's get to know each other a bit better!

Whilst I agree with tomsons26. Let's clarify for fir3w0rx what "software emulation mode" or "software mode" means: it means that the CPU takes care of it rather than any specialized hardware (sound, graphics, storage) accelerator. It does in fact state "2 MB of Video RAM" and "16 bit color" to be required but "3D Hardware acceleration" is stated to be completely optional. That's because RA2 is, in fact, 2D, the buildings are somewhat pseudo-3D. For multiplayer (3 to 8 players), there's no changes in the required Video RAM but the CPU and RAM requirements are almost doubled! I will not argue the fact that support for DirectDraw hardware acceleration has existed in the past and perhaps it still does. Though the whole idea of todays GPUs is to accelerate 3D rendering. So, I think it's more than just safe to say, that RA2 (at least nowadays) is 100 % CPU bound, from my experience anyway.
-
Do you plan on using higher resolution textures and nicer Voxels/SHPs? I could imagine a visually more appealing UI would have better chances to get popular. Although that would require new artwork be done but compared to the programming work it should be laughable or will you reuse the original graphics resources? I know next to nothing about SHPs, BTW, other than what I needed to know to create a reshroudable foghack for RA2/YR.
-
No! Because of DirectDraw, RA2/YR is completely CPU bound and has no business to do with your GPU, at all. I just pulled it out of my ass, based on Moore's law. I also want a mention to my name wherever the table is used.
-
This, it all boils down to simple mathemagics. See the table I've attached, compare it to the year your computer was built and adjust your resolution accordingly. The table holds true for your usual run-of-the-mill PC. That's wrong! You don't need a graphics card to play RA2, at all.
-
Hell, people played on 640 x 480! In 2000. But it's 2015. I used to play on 1920 x 1200 back in 2009. :] If I was playing today, I'd probably be playing on 2560 x something. I don't quite see the problem, though. Every computer built since 2012 can handle the modest 1920 x 1080 at 59 FPS while recording to a H.263 stream at the same time.

LMFAO kid, you make me laugh because you're full of shit. How old are you? I can proudly claim that I have never maphacked or foghacked on XWiS. I got my RaNk #1s in months where Marko, Corey, JP, JJ, Tim, Seke, root, Showtime, Mikoz and Marsh competed. I have played on GR once. I haven't played on CnCNet yet. I haven't played RA2 at all in 4.5 years since I got banned. People started cheating after I got banned.
