Good day fellow modders and C&C players alike, nice seeing the forum still alive and kicking with discussions taking place and ranting and spam hitting the ceiling.  :D

 

Im not really sure if this topic should go here, but hey, this, i think is the most suitable place to announce my mod, even though it's not finished yet 

In fact, i could say that the overall progress is pretty small, but the thing that matters the most is that our mod team (composed of me and another person which is doing huge amounts of work) is pushing on, and, in my opinion, we are getting pretty nice results  :P

 

So without further blabber, i will quickly summarise our total conversion for Command&Conquer:Red Alert.

 

The storyline is much to that of a sleazy porn movie, like it was said earlier by a person which name i forgot, it's there but it ain't that important  XD

But to just quickly give the idea, the plot is similar to World in Conflict or, i unno, Battlefield Bad Company 2 or CoD MW, cold war between USSR and USA has ended, but has, by the near future grown hot again. The Soviets are replaced by Russian Federation, Allies are replaced by an European and American alliance, which has found a new cause to kick ass and chew bubblegum.

 

We plan to fully replace all possible graphics, add two new campoaings for each side, make a tonn of missions and change gameplay. In other words we are looking forward to making a decent total conversion. So far we have made 2 units, the Heavy tank being replaced by the T-72 and the Attack Dog being replaced by a scout.

Now the question is, we wanted to render the tank in absolute teamcolor (like the original vehicles) but decided to mess with it a little later on. What do you guys think, should we try to render it original design for tanks as well and give it a try?

Somehow I don't like the implications of yet another "bad Russians" storyline. Fictional (and hyperbolically cliche'd) Soviets from RA are one thing, "Russian Federation" is another.

Well, if you do want to know more about the storyline, i suppose il write a bit, some sketches were done a long time ago, but as i said, for a mod of an ancient game, it far not the most important thing. Actually, when i wrote that the plot is close to CoD 4 or WiC, i didn't mean to point out that Russians are there as the "bad guys". In-fact, i will try to focus the plot-line on horrors of modern warfare, the ruthlessness of superpowers and their hunger for world dominance, in a single chapter which will take place in around post soviet countries and a little bit in Europe. The world of this mod has some diversions from our own world, though it's practically just as the same but made for a free way to develop it in a more overdriven style. For an example; the United States of America are in a critical economic condition. Many regions of the middle eastern soil are under firm military control, but they covet for more power and influence, and plan to start a new war against the nation which is proving to be a difficult and what's more important, undesired economical rival. Russians, on the other hand, throughout 19 years of existence, has managed to regain it's strength by means of natural resources and weapon export. As they gain power, the old soviet hints of totalitarianism are starting to arise in the seats of their rulers, and so the War on Aggression (the way the American ministry of defense will name the whole operation) starts.

 

The mod will not feature bad or good guys, it will just show a "World War III - Fray Version" - by plot-line about a one year war, the results of which will lead to nothing except casualties, and ultimately to a peace enforcement. The western military alliance will undertake a heavy blow, and many nations will disband it, the Russian Federation will once again, by the twist of fate, will erupt into a military focused political power, though by the plot-line it is speculated that the war for them has finished in an accomplished goal, since their leader and ideology won't be broken.

Sorry if I misunderstood you point. I guess I got caught in the "Soviets as bad guys" cliche from RA1 myself :) Still, I've got to say that the appeal of C&C to me is partly in the use of purely fictional sides like GDI and Nod, or the alternate timeline universe altogether.

Certainly, but nevertheless RA1 is a brilliant creation of brilliant developers and you do know how many people have attempted and made all sorts of different mods for this game. I do get your point absolutely, that making a mod with a serious political edge to it can end in a hilarious result at the very least, but as i said, the whole deal with the Russian Federation and US at this point is very very undefined. As i wrote earlier though, i, as much as it is possible, will try to make a unique, alternate and diversed storyline and universe to this mod. Perhaps you may have seen an up-coming RTS called "Elements of War"? There will be a modern war there as well, with Americans, Russians and europeans fighting for resources and so forth... But even with this in mind, so far, i haven't seen any actual political tone to the game, and flags of each nation are really just symbolic.

 

I am not fully sure yet, perhaps both of the sides will be 100% fictional, US will be for sure, i just wrote so at the beginning of the thread so people could get a sharp meaning on what the mod is about. I plan to name the "western" side by some really beaten and cliche'd (just for that C&C feeling) name... Something like United Liberational Front - ULF for short. I think it's no big secret to also add that electro charges and teleportation will be present, because at this time, totally replacing everything is practially impossible i think... One way or another, i think people won't really care if it's a tesla charge frying your squad members to cinders or some laser thingy which looks really similar  XD

A little, uh, *update* if you could call it that, the full animation of a VV (Внутренние ВойÑка -  internal military forces in English) Scout Infantry.

 

Now, i wanna warn you my friends, this here unit was my little personal whimsey, and it does look really cheesy, the animations of the torso that is, but i did this unit 2 years ago, and when the mod got resurrected, i suddenly decided to replace the Soviet Attack Dog with this guy. The process mostly required boring pixel making correction work, recoloring and so forth. Hope ya like him  :D

I know the whole animation does look a bit imperfect, but this is a result of my experimental fun with pixel drawing C&C infantry alikes  XD

Always wanted to add something stabby to RA1... Other infantry is planned to be made in different style.
