weaveR Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Hi I was wondering would it be a good idea to instead have cncnet in a separate folder for the original westwood c&cs its a bit messy having it in every game folder wouldn't it be better to have it just once in a separate folder to the games?
Plokite_Wolf Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Agreed. It can still hook to the games the games themselves, supposing some registry files can be created and called (for TS onwards it shouldn't be a problem).
FunkyFr3sh Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 For Red Alert 2 it would be an advantage since it's mostly installed in the program files folder and it could allow playing without admin rights maybe. For the other games it's pretty bad though cause cncnet makes the folders portable, they're all meant to run off a usb-stick perfectly fine (including having all your settings and maps on the usb-stick too)

TD and RA1 don't even need the registry keys to begin with, IIRC.
FunkyFr3sh Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Yes, I think there was only one useful registry key to enable the aftermath expansion Having no cncnet files in the folder at all might take a lot effort, but I'll write it down and do some tests when I got time
