I don't remember you ('cos I wasn't playing TS online 15 years ago ) but... welcome back! The more the merrier. Just wondering, what made you come back?
-
You're not worried about pirating, but at the same time you're worried about terms and agreements? I don't get it. But seriously, the only possible problem I can see here is what Nyerguds already mentioned. I highly doubt that your uni's IT department will allow you to play games for recreational purposes. You'd have to pretend it's for a networking assignment or something.

I've sent the most recent update to Norton and I'm gonna do the same for future updates from now on (I wonder how long it takes them to process it?). It doesn't really bother me too much having to exclude the file everytime it gets updated, but I think if everyone can do the same and send the updated files to the antivirus companies, it'll help everyone else, especially the new players who might be a little skeptic about CnCNet thinking that they might get a real virus.

Is your Yuri's Revenge folder inside c:\Program Files? If so, there are a couple of things you can try: 1. Log out, then log back into your computer as admin, then try copy/pasting the exe file again. 2. Reinstall Yuri's Revenge outside of Program Files (for example: C:\Yuri's Revenge), then try copying the file into it. Which operating system are you using btw?

So you don't have an antivirus, but the file gets automatically deleted? That is weird. So the file automatically gets removed right after you copy/paste it into your game folder? When does it vanish exactly?
-
Is the file CnCNetYRLauncher.exe still in your game folder?
-
Is the file CnCNetYRLauncher.exe still in your game folder? If not, my guess is it's your antivirus. Check it's scan history/logs if you can. Maybe there was a recent update that your antivirus didn't like, or maybe your antivirus is scheduled to automatically scan your computer every 2 weeks.

I have the same problem with Norton with every update telling me it's a 'WS_Reputation'. I have to restore and exclude the file every time. But it's just a false positive because I've been using cncnet.exe and related files for over 5 years now with no problems. I think there's a way to submit the file(s) to the antivirus companies, but I've been too lazy to look into it because it only takes a few seconds to restore and exclude.

Running in VMWare Pro v12, I've used both NAT and Bridged (also Replicate physical network) on my virtual WinXP to try and connect to cncnet, but with no luck. It loads up and says "Connecting... can take up to 1minute", even after 10 minutes. It connects to the internet just fine though. I've briefly read about this VHD boot thing. Apparently (since Win 7), it allows you to install a 2nd OS (without affecting your 1st OS) and boot directly into it, without having to share resources with the 1st OS. This shits on dual booting. I'll have to look into it more... right after I finish the SC2 - LotV campaign
-
On Windows 7 it's fine. But I guess it depends on your graphics card/processor.

I thought all techies/gamers, like yourself, has monster rigs with spare parts up the wazoo. I guess you've spent all your money on your Aahnold stuff Haven't tried this myself (I haven't had to yet), but it seems to have helped some people so I've modified my first post so people can try this first before anything else.

For keyboards with extra keys. Are you installing Win7 as a virtual machine or your OS? If it's the latter, you should definitely consider dual booting with Win 10 so you get the best of both worlds. I know Win10 kinda sux now with trying to run older software, but so did Win7 when it first came out. Plus you wouldn't want to change your mind later when you have everything re-installed already.

I was trying to connect to the cncnet lobby the other day through my virtual machine, but i couldn't. So yeah I dont recommend it either, except as a last resort.

Yuri vs Sov dune patrol, what's the counter to deso's?
fir3w0rx replied to sunny's topic in Red Alert 2
Iraq has TWO useful things against Yuri (the desolator and iron curtain), but Yuri has MANY against Iraq (and every other faction). So if you know the counter to desos... DON'T TELL HIM!! -
I have questions, not issues: _ 1. Can someone else use my RANKED nickname if I'm not logged in? _ 2. How many different RANKED nicknames are we allowed to have per account? Is there a limit? (not related to the ladder, but still about nicknames) _ 3. How come some nicknames in the lobby show their country's flag, but others don't? _ 4. How come some nicknames allow you to see their OTHER nicknames, but others don't?

Oh ok. Well, like any other mod, unless the game is modified at binary level, there will always be limitations. But hey, on the bright side, at least the things I've noticed so far aren't game breaking issues. We can live with it Just a couple more things before I hit the hay: 1. In the batch file cctdrdx.bat, I think you should let people know not to manually close it, incase they alt-tab back to the desktop, because it still has to rename and delete files. 2. When running in Win XP compatibility, in the animated background, there are weird creatures moving around on the tiberium. What are they, visceroids?

I'm only up to GDI mission 07 and have played a few skirmishes vs the AI, but so far, overall it's an excellent mod. Here are some of my questions, observations and suggestions so far: 01. Even when the MCV cannot deploy, it still says 'Construction Complete'. I noticed this at the beginning of GDI mission 1 & 2. 02. When trying to place a structure down, would it be possible to show exactly where it is ok to place it (like in C&C 3 for example)?. It's a little annoying hearing "Building... cannot deploy here, building... cannot deploy here, building... cannot deploy here' whenever I place it a little too far away from other structures. 03. After you click 'activate conyard system', the construction yard should STILL be selected, but it's not anymore. It doesn't make sense that you have to select it again. 04. AI Mini Gunners (not sure about vehicles yet) doesn't fire back when being shot at by humvees from a distance. I know that the humvees are out of their range, but they should still react. 05. When you capture a refinery with a harvester in it deploying it's load, the harvester should also become yours. 06. In the control interface (at the bottom of the screen), I think the button 'next>>>menu' should be disabled when there is nothing in the next menu. 07. It'd be good if the Mission Briefing popped up at the start of each mission automatically, instead of the player having to manually open it. 08. After building a refinery, the next bunch of buildings in the tech-tree won't be available until you click 'Deploy Harvester. I think it should be available with or without the harvester. 09. How can you tell if your tiberium silo is full? 10. Rivers can be seen through undiscovered terrain. 11. After you sell a building, shouldn't you get infantry (that was inside) like mini gunners and technicians?

Well, I wouldn't call it an 'excellent idea', it's more of a last resort . The performance will be slower than just running one OS. To run RA2 in full screen you'll have to be set both OSs to the same screen resolution. If the virtual machine crashes, press and hold ALT+CTRL to get out of it.

If you've tried everything, including these... http://www.bitpatch.com/ddwrapper.html http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/182360-cc-red-alert-2-windows-8-windows-10-fix/ http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/182482-cc-yuris-revenge-windows-8-windows-10-fix/ and you don't want to dual-boot your Win 8/10 with an older 0S (Operating System - Win XP, Win Vista or Win 7), another thing you can try is to re-install your older OS in a virtual machine: Download VMWare Workstation Player 12 (or click here for their homepage incase the above link has changed) - Go to Downloads -> Free Product Downloads. Free version - Sends ads to your email about their products, but you can always create another email. (this is a full version as far as I know) Purchased version - No ads in your mailbox, but costs a lot of money. Requirements: 64-bit operating system Your old Windows XP, Vista, or Win 7 disk (or an image file of one of these) VMWare Workstation Player allows you to install an OS within your current OS. So you can fire up Windows 7 while still running your Windows 10 for example, or boot up good old Windows 95 with Windows 8.1 still running in the background. But the catch is that you'll still need the OS that you want to install, and slower computers might experience some lag. I've only tried RA2 on my Winows 8.1 (with WinXP VM), but it should also work in Windows 10. Alternatively, you can install the Yuri's Revenge client from cncnet.org which allows you to play both Yuri's Revenge and the Red Alert 2 (using the RA2 mode)

Is more than 8 players possible? How about drop-in mid game?
fir3w0rx replied to fir3w0rx's topic in Red Alert 2
I think you should have done that in the first place, the more colors the better imo. And while you're at it, you should add some cool unit skins (voxels or whatever they're called) and make them unlockable as an achievement! -
No problem. If you're using the CnCNet version of YR, do what Grant suggested^. But for any other version, you'll have to rename hecks2c.mpr to hecks2c.yrm and put it in the same folder as the EXE files (gamemd.exe, yuri.exe).

@AlexMa (off topic) - Do you play in QQ Battle?

What's traditional Chinese - Mandarin? Cantonese? (I have no clue)
