Welcome both!

Hi no thats fine. We don't want that file in your game directory - sometimes its used for other network to connect you. You can take that file out of your directory. Do you have any firewalls or antivirus software preventing your game files from working correctly? Are your drivers up-to-date, network card etc?

Relating to the server issue: It could be that the tunnel servers are not being auto-selected by ping, instead by distance. Iran is to investigate the lag issue further when he gets to it though so we'll wait for that result too.
-
The best way to check yourself for lag is to test skirmish, whilst toggling the settings such as videobackbuffer. 1 - make a game with an AI. Play it, go to speed options and put speed to fastest. 2 - note the speed, how fast are buildings being built? 3 - exit, toggle the videobackbuffer and repeat the same to see if there is a difference. Also since you're on XP, make sure you haven't got ddraw.dll in your folder. It's only really for windows >= 8

If that fails maybe this can help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHqjTSI0TlY

Any type of YR install is fine. To elaborate a bit more, CnCNet will automtatically detect any ra2/yr installation you already have installed on your computer. Quickfire instructions: 1). Install Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge (Skip if you have it installed already) 2). Download the installer http://yurisrevenge.com and run the setup 3). Click the CnCNet shortcut on your desktop and you're good to go!
-
Hey there, can you check to see if you have this file in your game directory? wsock32.dll
-
Hello, Download the CnCNet Yuri's Revenge Online installer: http://yurisrevenge.com CnCNet shortcut will appear on your desktop when finished installing. Note: EA Games have not released Yuri's Revenge as Freeware so you will need it installed. You can buy a digital copy of all Command & Conquer games from the EA Origin store. or Amazon

Hey - not currently any checks AFAIK to look for .net 4 yet. Link to install though: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=17851

Probably by login they mean the name you give yourself before connecting.

Hey - you can buy a digital copy of all Command & Conquer games from the EA Origin store, including Yuri's Revenge fairly cheap! https://www.origin.com/en-gb/store/buy/c-c-the-ultimate-collection/pc-download/bundle/standard-edition

While the YR client allows nicknames of up to 16 characters in length, if a nick indeed has 16 characters... ...then that user never actually loads, and the last, 16th character of his nickname on the loading screen is replaced by an odd symbol: (Interestingly enough, from the "offending" user's point of view everybody seems to load fine, and only after his game has started he gets a disconnection screen showing that he doesn't actually have a connection to anybody else.) I suspect that the game itself might be storing nicks in arrays of 16 char s including a terminating ' \0 ', so the actual character limit would be one less. The obvious remedy is for the client to simply limit the length of a nick to 15 characters. <Reference> Status: Rampastring to review

Suggestions and feedback needed for the Yuri's Revenge CnCNet 5 client
Grant replied to Iran's topic in Red Alert 2
Thank you - will add this to the bug tracker. -
Some dude boasted about how he supposedly "had a cheat"; the game indeed desynced a minute or two after start. Associated syncfile attached. <Reference> Syncfile: http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=3545.0;attach=4820 Status: Iran to investigate

The client routinely crashes when someone's not loading and I go back to desktop to kill game.dat, here an example: Status: Iran to check <Reference> Log: http://pastebin.com/pePjaPH9

Hey looks good! Moving this to the RA2/YR sub-forum
-
Hey there, few details are required to get an idea of what could be causing this: Please provide: - Playing on CnCNet - Yuri's Revenge? - What version of the game do you have installed? E.g - is it installed from Origin, original CD's or other? - Does this happen online whilst you're in a game with other players? - Does this happen when playing just with an AI? E.g - setting up a game via CnCNet with an easy enemy only.
-
Hey - apparently it's to do with a resolution you have selected not being supported. Try a lower reso and see if the same happens?
-
Hey - if you're referring to the CnCNetYRClient.exe, you can scan this using VirusTotal. Result: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8a21a9c6b921085c3a6751537dc1090a0d2b7cb3a08d2f0da4f25f639c506627/analysis/1426270982/
