CAndC
Hi, after installing and updating (C&C: RA2 v1.006 and C&C: YR v1.001), what do I do to play over the internet? I'm interested in playing C&C: RA2 and C&C: YR online over the internet and I don't know how. Thx.

CAndC
All you need is here: http://cncnet.org/yuris-revenge Thx for the reply, I was wondering, does that program work if C&C: YR is not installed?
hardman
No you need a copy of RA2 and YR installed.

(Which is currently free on Origin if you're quick!) https://www.origin.com/en-ie/store/free-games/on-the-house Cool! Hi, I read about the "player already have the same serial" error and then I read you can get banned. How do I not get banned when playing C&C: YR online via CnCNet? Error note: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Red_Alert_2
Tore
Chances of getting banned due to serial issues on CnCNet is zero.
CAndC
Chances of getting banned due to serial issues on CnCNet is zero. Good to know. Also is the "Lan Patch (fan made)" available here required? http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Red_Alert_2 And, can C&C: RA2/YR still be played online via Westwood Online? Thx everyone for helping.
FunkyFr3sh
LAN patch is only needed for LAN games or VPN's (not for CnCNet) Westwood online does not exist anymore, but the guys from xwis took it over and you can still play in the old online lobby via http://xwis.net/

Which is better? Do Origin versions use XWIS?
FunkyFr3sh
xwis got mainly classic ra2 players CnCNet got ra2 yuri's revenge players cause classic ra2 is not supported yet You can use xwis and CnCNet with any version of the game (CD's/First Decade/Origin)

What about cheaters? I don't like playing with cheaters! Thx again.
hardman
Origin does not have a server to play online with. You have a choice of servers to play on. Put honestly, for ra2 and yuris revenge: Cncnet- your best bet for yuris revenge, currently the most active server XWIS- your best bet for Ra2 It is not possible to cheat on cncnet, but watch out for modded maps. XWIS has an anti cheat client and bans players that cheat. Gameranger is another server but has no anti cheat support. As funky already said, any version of the game (disc, origin download, XWIS download) should work with any server. The real benefit of origin offering the games for free is to get your hands on the free serial which will enable you to play ra2 on XWIS (requires valid serial) as well as cncnet. Thx 4 the info hardman. I didn't realize CnCNet and XWIS require a valid serial/CD-Key. The Origin version comes with a "product code", is this the equivalent of the required serial to play via CnCNet and XWIS?
hardman
CnCnet just requires the game installed. Registering your serial is not necessary. Just run the installer from http://cncnet.org/yuris-revenge and you're good to go. XWIS requires you to add your serial to your XWIS game account (easily done), before playing Ra2 online. And yes, the product code should be the serial https://help.ea.com/uk/article/finding-your-serial-number-for-an-origin-purchase/

I really like this game, however I'm really bad at it, any suggestions for novice players and online gaming? Thx!
hardman
I am from UK yes. Try looking through some youtube channels of good players for tips. Some good players also sometimes stream. Look out for posts on the forums both here and on xwis for when people are streaming live. Example of good streamer: http://www.twitch.tv/cncsteffster/profile Example of a good channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBuVakhp7VXmVisli4PH5mw Try searching 'red alert 2 pro game' / 'yuri's revenge pro game' or something similar. There should be a lot of videos, some even with commentary. Also it might be worth looking through some strategy topics on the XWIS forums. There are some helpful topics, especially the pinned ones: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/forum/28-strategy-and-tactics/ You can also try searching for 'videos' on xwis to see some topics with links. Good luck, and don't be afraid of asking for help or losing to better players!

Oh and if you know of an youtube vid of an epic (irrespective of length) game, please post. Thx for all the info!
hardman
You should be able to find plenty of good videos by searching yourself just on youtube or on xwis forums. It should be easy enough to learn some basic build orders to ensure you have good economy and can keep up. There are no game rooms specific for novices. If you are serious about trying to compete with the better players, i would watch some videos and read some topics then just play. Then play some more. You will pick up a lot just by playing the better players.

Nyerguds
Does Origin have their own online system to play C&C:: RA2/YR that requires the Origin version? Origin is purely an application server. All it does is offer the games to download and play. It is 100% unrelated to multiplayer.
