Error - Unable to set the video mode

Question

Hi everyone.

I just downloaded and installed C&C Tiberian Dawn and when I tried to launch it, the screen flashed black twice and an error box came up with the following: Error - Unable to set the video mode. Can anybody shed some light on what I should do? I'm running Vista 32 - bit if that helps.

Cheers

as i fellow Vista user i have two Words to say "Compatability Mode" try running the game in 98 compatability mode (if ofcourse you have tryed already)

loads of comaptability problems on vista can be fixed by running in compatability mode and/or running as admin

Try to update your video card driver and DirectX. You could also try changing the resolution the game uses from ccsetup.exe.

Also don't post multiple messages after each other the edit button is there for a reason!

Did you update to 1.06b? Because 1024x768 should work for most people. It's usually just the standard 640x400 that causes problems.

You should check your game version first. The version number is usually displayed at the main menu.

To download the 1.06b patch click here

This is a simple fix. just open the folder location not the disc location. This bypasses the settings through game and reverts video and compatibility settings to computer's recommended settings.

You just replied to a six year old thread with a solution that makes no sense. This is a problem related to the screen resolution the game tries to set, and the 1.06 patch fixes this by allowing free resolution choices.

Locked.
