CnC95 laggy and unresponsive after gold edition patch, help!

AntaeusUK

Question

Hey chaps,

I downloaded the latest version of this patch: http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cnc95upd/cc95p106/ and while its solved my colour issues and the game now runs, it runs in a very jerky way. Videos jerk and lag every couple of seconds, the menus are slow to respond, and the gameplay lags. I'm not sure but could it be an option in the configuration program that comes with the patch that may be causing it that I need to change? I'm sure I've used an earlier version of the patch on another install a while ago and it didn't have these issues :/.

I am using the ultimate collection version of the game that is on origin, any help would be great! Thanks in advance :].

open ddraw.ini in your game folder, change renderer=opengl TO renderer=gdi

Thanks for the help! That certainly cleared up the lag issues! Only downside is it makes the videos smaller http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg294/Antaeus06/CnCgdirenderer.jpg The option to stretch them is greyed out in the config once the renderer is changed to gdi. But if this is the only side effect of having no lag then I can live with it :P.

cool :D there is a newer version of the ddraw which allows you to stretch the videos with gdi as well, but you probably end up with the same problems ;(

I'm willing to try it! I assume its not linked on this site though? or should I do some digging using the search function?  8)

The setup tool will not magically know there's a new dll, no... it automatically uses opengl in practically all cases, especially when enabling functions it knows the (originally included) dll can't do on GDI renderer.

Ah ok that explains a lot, I have somehow sorted the issue although not entirely sure how :P. Anyway my new playthrough of each game and expansion pack has begun in earnest. I think Red Alert 1 will always be my favourite though.
