[NUCLEAR DECAY]: Beta- and beta+ decay (positron) = WTF?
SiRaLeX replied to SiRaLeX's topic in General Discussion
This is why I love this place! There's so many technologically educated people here, it's amazing! Thanks, Blade! This is actually an excellent explanation! I am sure that you will be able to program the nuclear missile silo in your RA1 incarnation, no problem. I have read up on that in the Wikipedia before I went to sleep! I love learning about new things anti-matter. I have a rather amusing read on the topic of conservation of energy, written by Richard Feynman. I have attached them as pictures if somebody wants to read them (you might already know them, though) but they're rather funny! For some reason my Nexus 5 camera turns a corner redish after swapping the electronics into a new display frame, might have messed up the camera or some shielding, haha. Annoying. :ranting: I did read this in the same Wikipedia article about anti-matter too, thought it was interesting to say the least. I also read that anti-matter is very hard to produce, but theoretically possible and it is assumed that any atom can be produced as an "anti-matter" counterpart that presumably has the same chemical properties (but if the two meet, they annihilate) and perhaps somewhere in the universe a place exists where everything consists out of anti-matter, haha. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimatter#Artificial_production "Scientists claim that antimatter is the costliest material to make." Read the second paragraph of my attachment. -
I'm back! Today with a question regarding nuclear decay, specifically beta- and beta+ decay: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_particle :ranting: As by the attached drawing. Don't let it confuse you though, it's german. The circle on the left side from which the arrow starts is the nucleus. My understanding on a very basic level is as follows: ß- decay: the nucleus loses a neutron and converts it into a proton and two electrons, hence "upgrading" its element by 1, while emitting one of the two "created" electrons as radiation. ß+ decay: the nucleus loses a proton and converts it into a neutron, hence "downgrading" its element by 1 and magically creates and emits this weird thing called a "positron" which is a positively charged electron. Now the questions: How the hell can a nucleus emit an electron by breaking down a neutron? Does a neutron basically consist out of a proton and an electron? And what the hell is a positron? How can an electron be positively charged? Since the nucleus loses a proton does it also lose an electron from its shell to keep balance? I find it difficult to imagine a "positron".

Hello, Does anyone have an, umm, dictionary/map of file name mapped to map name or any idea of how to go about creating one efficiently without manual work? Sure, I could go about it the lengthy way of traversing mix files and the game directory itself for maps and extract the names, but RA2 has to have that information in order to show the maps list anyway, so I might just go about it that route. Just wondering if anyone has a list already?! Greetings,

Haha, can't touch this! -
Nice! Thanks so much! I actually have 3 periodic tables: A German one which is just printed on paper and painted over with text highlighters (this is the one I currently use). A nice old Slovenian double sided one! Another German one which is not so nice because it doesn't have the typical coloring but at least has all the new elements on it. TBH, I can't really make anything out of the weirdly colored German one, just yet.

Thanks for the explanation, X3M! But Phosphorus (group V) is a non-metal, like Carbon (group IV) and Sulfur (group VI). Selenium (group VI) is a metalloid. They are found in the main groups and are not transition metals, from my understanding. What do you mean with "outside the box"? Biochemist, perhaps, haha. I do like salt, it greatly enhances the foods own taste. I don't like it so much on its own though.

Well, to my defense, I am really bad in maths and I'm equally terribly slow in balancing chemical equations so I might need some of your help there neither do I understand how in PCl5 (phosphorus pentachloride) it's possible for a phosphorus atom being in the 15th group with 5 valence electrons to bind to 5 chlorine atoms when from my understanding 5 valence atoms only allow 3 bonds. Being able to tell to which class of drugs a something belongs to by looking at its skeletal structural formula has almost nothing to do with maths nor chemistry, sadly. XD I'm easily able to tell that something is derived from the opium-poppy through its signature morphinan structure: Oxycodone, Heroin, Codeine, Morphine, Levomethorphan all are, however, Dextromethorphan is confusing because it looks similar but actually rotates the other way and the effects are distinctly different. Benzodiazepines are not hard to tell either: Valium, Ativan, Xanax, Rohypnol (Roofies) Amphetamine-like stimulant structure is pretty easy as well: Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, MDMA, Methylone, Ephedrine, Bupropion (boy, this one tastes really toxic, probably because of the chlorine)

2a,3a-epithio-17a-methyl-5a-androstan-17b-ol looks a lot like Testosterone I'm no chemist, at all, but both seem to consist of a steroid ring system. So it's basically just an orally available form of a synthetic/modified Testosterone since Testosterone itself can only be injected but not eaten because it would be inactivated in the digestive system.

Well, I have a 55" TV but a 4" PC. Could have a pretty high end rig for the money I've spent on just the PC. But hey, it's nearly inaudible and runs RA2 at high reso at 57+ fps in Windows 7 while it manages 40 fps at best in Windows 10. So, I'm happy. Might post a pic later, have to go to GYM now.

As my OS. I can't consider dual booting with Win 10. I only have 119 GB of space. Can't really afford more. I have a 160 GB hard drive laying around somewhere, though, still, and I guess I could get some PXE boot going from my Synology, but, meh.

Haha, awesome. Kinda scary tho this weird 2a,3a-epithio-17a-methyl-5a-androstan-17b-ol research chemical shit, you never know what you're putting in your body with that. For now I'm sticking with good old Test E injections, might give this a try sometime tho 'cause it's tempting, haha.

Just installing this! :whenitsdone: What is "enhanced keyboard driver"? Damn, dat clean ass Win7 desktop! Might just go back to Win7 altogether... It sure is fast but it's also super annoying. Especially the keyboard settings. Also RA2 got black screen which I can't really fix there. So... I might just install Win7, though, 'cause it's pretty neat still. Pretty sure I won't miss Windows 10. Can't really recommend this. Very complicated.

Growth hormone and pro hormone? You have to inject growth hormone, too...

Well, I'm a bodybuilder - or at least I like to consider myself as such. So I have to go to gym and eat. https://youtu.be/YcmgqY8Ybio?t=45s We all have to sleep anyway. Has anyone tried to trick their body into not needing to sleep? Meth? Caffeine? Amphetamines? Ritalin? Modafinil? Venlafaxine (yes this works too)? And if so, what were your experiences?

Hell, yeah. I regularly jab my thigh, I love it! Was just wondering because you looked quite good on your S-T avatar (if that's indeed you). Just went to McDonald's, ordered and paid for 4 cheeseburgers, got 5, l0l, idiots!

Yep, and it only works when flash is installed... -
Then don't use OpenGL/Direct3D/whatever? Problem solved! Compatibility modes won't change this.

Awesome, mate! Found it: https://www.khanacademy.org/science/physics/one-dimensional-motion/acceleration-tutorial/a/what-are-acceleration-vs-time-graphs Thank you so much, PreP! -
You don't need a serial to play on CnCNet.

[MATHS/PHYSiCS]: m/(s²) (meters per square second) WTF is this?
SiRaLeX replied to SiRaLeX's topic in General Discussion
You're right! 1 N = 1 kg * m/s² I prefer not to know the definition of a Newton but rather that Newton is supposed to come out of a formula I'm inserting values into. -
Half of the YouTube videos on CnCNet's channel are from him. So yeah, if you didn't sponsor him - why would he keep making videos for you?
