[Discussion] Are the Soviets underpowered against Yuri?
SiRaLeX replied to Sharbel's topic in Red Alert 2
I agree with this. To make matters worse, I have several RaNk #1s on Red Alert 2: http://xwis.net/ra2/players/siralex/ http://xwis.net/ra2/players/scenegirl/ http://xwis.net/ra2/players/paramorex/ http://xwis.net/ra2/players/vanessa/ http://xwis.net/ra2/players/tatu/ just to name a few. So I know what I'm talking about. Soviets did get a little bit better on Yuri's Revenge with the addition of the Industrial Plant, but they are still the weakest faction. People think that Soviets are stronger just because they have 1 single tank (rhino tank) which is "better" than the allied counterpart (grizzly tank). But this is a fallacy. The rhino tank isn't "better" than the grizzly tank at all. The rhino tank costs 900 $ as opposed to grizzly tank's 700 $ price tag. Obviously, costing 200 $ more, the tank is expected to have proportionally stronger armor. It also shoots a bit stronger but the allied counterpart shoots faster and moves a lot faster too. The tanks are very balanced, rhino being a slow and heavy expensive piece of shit while the allied tank is a light, fast and maneuverable vehicle. What's unbalanced is the entire army that the allies have... Mirage, Prism, Rocketeers, free Paradrops, Ore Purifier, Spy, etc. The rhino tank is literally a fucking sitting duck. When it gets killed by 2 allied planes, rocketeers or a free paradrop you're suddenly down by 900 $. -
If you can already run the client on Linux, then why the hell do you want a Linux client? The fact that the client marks Linux users as cheaters just shows the poor quality of the client. No-one here has the expertise to make a Linux client anyway.
-
If ya'll can run the games and cheats and whatever just fine using wine... why can't you also run the client with wine?
-
And how do you know who really made the difference? For example, Rampastring has done most of the work on the Client. But is his work quality work? No offense, I consider it rather flimsy, but hey, it works and he's put a lot of time into it. Anyways, they are already being paid through CnCNet/HiFi.
-
Lol, there will NEVER be a Linux client.

Question 1: Where do mass defects come from? A Li6 core has a mass of 6.01347706u, now substract the mass of its 3 protons and the mass of its 3 neutrons and you end up with a mass defect of 0.03434u, this in turn equates to 32 MeV (as you can see in the picture). Ignore the formal errors, it should be 0.03434u * 931.494 MeV/u. Question 2: Assume that an alpha decay occurs. An Uranium 238 atom decays to a Thorium 234 atom and emits an alpha particle (positively charged Helium 4 core). What happens to the 2 leftover electrons the Thorium ends up with? I mean, technically the Thorium (atomic number 90) ends up with 92 electrons which the Uranium had. Is the Thorium now negatively charged? Is the Thorium now bound to undergo two ß- (beta minus) decays, but that would turn it back into Uranium? WTF! Will the Thorium just explode? :ranting:

Is it possible to build units. More than 30 units at a time
SiRaLeX replied to suksawat1's topic in Red Alert 2
Nice little hack! This can be abused for online games. -

Yes. Don't know how though. -
Sounds plausible, tomsons26. None of my original RA2 serials have letters in them. Every Origin RA2 serial has letters in them, though.
-
Well, I didn't know the difference between RA3 and C&C3.
-
Ramp a string is right about that.
-
So, how is what you said so much different than what I said? Yes, you mentioned specific RA3 file formats. If I'm not mistaken I did mention that I don't own a RA3 DVD and hence can't name any specific file formats but therefore I described a generic way on how to go about it that works for any game.
-
I'm a hacker (or at least that's what people like to call me), so I can give you a tip or two on this. What are FMVs? Bear in mind that I don't have a RA3 DVD. [*]Turn on your brain. [*]If they are in-game sequences, you can't extract them. [*]Check both the installation directory and the DVD. [*]Videos are likely to be large > 20 MB files. [*]Extract any cabinet file (you'll need to figure out the file formats yourself). [*]Check everything and everything you have extracted for large files. [*]Videos are likely to be in some sort of bink, flash, avi or whatever format. [*]Just try to open suspicious files with your favorite video player and let him figure out the format. [*]If this doesn't work, you'll need to figure out the right format yourself.

Cheating (using trainers/modified units) in multiplayer
SiRaLeX replied to GoldenGonaz's topic in Red Alert 2
I could sing a song about that. -
Haha, cn2mc, you're very right about that. For me the Balkans is where I'm from, it's where I was born, it's where my Slavic brothers are. But equating Slavic languages with Balkan languages is wrong - as you said, Greece and part of Turkey are on the Balkans too and I have Slavic brothers in eastern Europe and even Asia (Russia) as well! I think dread is a pretty good translation for groza in any Slavic language.
-
It doesn't necessarily have to be a cheat. It can be a cheat, however. To this date, nobody can just tell what caused it through the sync#.txt files even though S-T/XWIS always liked to have you believe that. You can only tell who caused it in a game with more than 2 players because then you will have (depending on how many players were in the game) 2, 3, 4 or 5 sync files incriminating the one who caused it. Unless the one who caused it and another player were to edit their sync files. It's "groza" with one 'a', and it's synonymous with "horror" in any balkan language. Though I'd translate it more with something like "it should be feared".

Guy should be banned. Just because he has some affiliation with CnCNet it doesn't mean he has the right to ruin other peoples games... -
So you're back after 15 years?

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT HOW LONG A GAME MUST GO TO COUNT.
SiRaLeX replied to Powerush's topic in General Discussion
No need to, I use Wolfram|Alpha now: 3 minutes - 2/3 * 3 minutes. -
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT HOW LONG A GAME MUST GO TO COUNT.
SiRaLeX replied to Powerush's topic in General Discussion
I agree with you. There's no sound reason for games to have a minimum duration of 3 minutes. The main reasons for a minimum duration are to avoid people abusing the ladder by gathering "free wins" and pushing themselves to rank #1 and to give people a chance to abort laggy games. But there's better ways to go about both of these issues instead of setting up a requirement for minimum game durations. Not only doesn't it solve anything, it even creates more problems, because players can abuse it in so many ways: ... quit games when they spawn on a random spot that they don't like. ... quit after making a mistake (this completely renders the competitive aspect the ladder useless). ... quit after realizing that your opponent is not a noob. ... quit when you already are losing because your opponent rushed or yours failed. ... and so on... I play RA2 (on XWIS) and matches, especially on small maps, can literally be determined in 3 minutes: http://xwis.net/ra2/games/10894/ I recommend it to be less than 30 seconds, perhaps 15 seconds although I'd prefer games to count immediately after they've been started. -

SiRaLeX replied to Powerush's topic in General Discussion
You don't decide how long a game must go to count. CnCNet does. They have good reasons for whatever time they pick. If you believe you have a better idea, then come up with some properly thought out points and sound reasoning to back it up. I'm sure it will be considered. -
What was the modal window asking on CnCNet wineskin on Mac
SiRaLeX replied to steveooo's topic in General Discussion
I'm not a CnCNet employee but allow me to speak on their behalf (seeing as no-one replied in more than 24 hours). I don't think it was the CnCNet app that asked about x11. In fact, I'm pretty sure it didn't, because, why would it? I'd think the wineskin wrapper, if anything, asked you that question. -
Yuri's Revenge - keep menus in correct aspect ratio?
SiRaLeX replied to TaxOwlbear's topic in Red Alert 2
Could be done by the monitor, too. Just open your ra2(md).ini and set these values: [Video] ScreenWidth=XXXX ScreenHeight=YYYY Wallah. It won't change the menus but it sure as hell will change the game (quite literally). -
Yuri's Revenge - keep menus in correct aspect ratio?
SiRaLeX replied to TaxOwlbear's topic in Red Alert 2
I agree with Nyerguds on this one. Resolutions, especially native ones are underestimated by many. To be honest, I don't quite get why people use awkward non-native resolutions on their flat screens, whereas every single of them claims that they know what a native resolution is. Oh well... Idiots are everywhere (no offence to TaxOwlbear, though [his name reminds me of Tamoxifen]).
