# Client Release 9.0

## Client Updates

This is a major update behind the scenes in that the client is now built on .NET7 framework.

This means that the client is no longer compatible with older operating systems like Windows XP. You must be on Windows 7 SP1 or later.

**Please try to re-install if the update fails:**

There are reports that the client must be launched as admin.
We are currently going to rollback to 8.32.0.
The same installer link should work:

Very bad news! Awful!

Had to leave the game untill you make your client compartible with Windows XP.

Windows XP like mentioned will not be supported soon, so would advise updating your O/S if you still want to play online with CnCNet.

Make it to be supported soon please.

Hey, fellow XP-user @Ezer_2000.
I was just like you. I thought If they drop support for XP, I won't be able to play this game again (at least for a while), but I was sooo wrong, and now I thank them for doing it, because that forced me to upgrade, which turned out to be a great thing, a life-changing experience for a guy like me, who's been using XP for two decades!

Many years ago, I was told that my old rig can't handle anything beyond XP smoothly; they were wrong, and I regret not verifying that myself earlier.
I found out that this age-old rig is capable of running Win-10 64! So I upgraded to Win-10. It worked well, but was a little bit sluggish, so I downgraded to Win-7, and I'm very pleased with it.

I kept XP on the main HDD and installed Win-7 on another, and now I have the best of both worlds (sort of). haha
So, I'm able to update the client on Win-7 and still play on XP!

I absolutely recommend any XP-user to upgrade. You won't regret it.

On a side note, I overclocked my rig to a stable 40% increase, which I also recommend to you and everyone else.
Unlock the full potential of your PC. Better performance for free.

BTW, I overclocked the CPU, GPU, and RAM.
It works like a charm. Can't believe it. Amazing. haha

Tested this with the new Steam ultimate collection release of RA2 and YR which contain modified exe's that block Windows 7. Am pleased to say your lovely patch auto detected the steam install location, installed with no errors and because your installer replaces the exe's with ones that keep the no-cd and have no Win7 block I'm now able to to play my steam copies of RA2 and YR! Many thanks guys! :)

Although I noticed that with most of the previous games you offer both a patch/installer with all the extra online multiplayer app stuff and a smaller simpler standalone patch version without all the extra stuff (my preference as I don't play multiplayer/skirmish & just play the campaigns so there's no point in bloating my install with extra stuff I won't use), yet I couldn't seem to find the later option here for RA2 & YR. I could only find the big one in this thread. So please let me know if I missed something.

Anyway just thought I'd report that your installer works with the new steam release so thanks again! :)

EDIT: Oh although I should mention that when I was in the cncnet app and tried to start RA2 it started it but the cncnet app kept blasting music so I had 2 instances of music blasting away lol. Doesn't bother me as like I said above I didn't intend to use your extra multiplayer app and am just gonna use the patched game exe's anyway, however I can see other people complaining on the RA2 & YR steam forums about having the same noisy double play/instance issue with your app and their steam versions so figured I'd better mention it to you guys.

starts fine with win11 and EA app red alert 2.

but: campaign buttons do not work, nothing happens.

edit: the buttons work but the menu will be overlayed preventing all game play.

if you "exit" the campaign game play then it will return to the campaign button menu.

Win 10. EA stock game used. Installed https://downloads.cncnet.org/CnCNet5_YR_Installer.exe.
1920-1080 pic res borderless.

If started with CnCNetYRLauncher.exe - "this product requires a 16bit pixel depth".
I turned on the 16bit pixel depth in all YR .exe files, turned on Run as Admin - nothing changed.

If start with gamemd.exe - Campaign and Skirmish work great.
