I suggest a re-lapse of the older scheme of internet identification and switch people to numbers based on their Domain name/user name + MAC address + IP address. We could do away with most identification problems. Also can totally get rid of having to log in for most users. Thoughts? (Maybe a hashed mac address only?)

Anyone tried to develop a map generator program yet?

Yes, but if we had our own it would be epic. WW is just so... -
So, there I was; me buddies Niear, cheaz, pickoara, 'andles, Ore, Niet, able, badge and the gang (you know who you are, rekkin credit to you). And we were like: "The scrubbery looks green today..." We are awesome and you lack colour! Setting up the stats and the boards for the rest. We chillin and resonating so like there is naught round the string pulling with us.

'Scrubstep' What do you think? ;-) .

One feature I think would be good, would be a video conversation system for webcams to make the experience a bit more interesting. As well, a simplification process for each revision of the GUI would be good, as well as code (I hope funkyfr3sh is doing that). Had the idea of adding more character to the system as well in small bits. How can the CnCNet team simplify it?
-
What is the current standing of these conversions, how do they size up these days? FreeCnC stopped devving years ago and the website was altered/taken down. I haven't heard from the OpenRA guys on the forums here for a while. There are possibilities of other conversions running around the internet as well (excluding the html5 clone [no source code for latest version]). Am I just the only one interested in this stuff?

We could try to export heightmaps from terrain generation programs on the net and have a tool that converts them to specific formats for each game, so that we can generate terrain easier and provide more opportunity for mappers to spend energy on other focuses of the map design. -
What units would you alter from their original design (if you could have it altered for the release date)? Or possibly, which ones would you of liked to see restored and not edited for the release of the game?
-
Any takers? Shall we get this comparison underway?
-
Should we fall back on the CnCNet chat system instead? If we had all the minds here talking in there, it would add a bit to the whole experience.
-
Is it time we actually did this? Just to show some gusto and reverse engineer the idea but with more detail in extrapolation of the original concept with the wisdom of years? We could basically copy it and add small interactions between the already existing 'contacts' that would add more depth and character to the system.
-
Tore, should we have a section to host all these tools as well? For a proper comprehensive service? Like something that can be used on the client as well to access modding tools? (I know we already have the forum sticky post, but something more?)
-
Hey, hey! Nice work!
-
Currently CnCNet uses a very elegent set of features to get its job done, which ones does it need to improve and which ones could we add to the program to make it more effective for ease of use and stability of experience? Go at it lads, lets flesh some good stuff out here!

It is not that complicated of a tile system Jacko, it should be possible to get it right with the proper level of scaling resolution (you can work out curves/etc and estimate). -
Does the forum need a specific sub-section for Open source O/S support? I think it might be a good idea; currently the stuff is too scattered and disorganised around the current system.
-
CnCNet is always looking for good people to take part in its system (including the forums). What good and wholesome stuff can you bring to it? This is a chance to show some bravado lads, so I expect some of you to remove the stops (in any manner of the way).

What are your dreams/visions of the effect the ladder will have on the community and what sort of changes will it instil within the player base that will bring out a positive and good manifestations? (This is concerning the coming ladder system).
-
Why do you feel the need to rebalance a game? What good does it make towards the reception of the game or the actual game experience itself? I want to hear good, deep, philosophical things here (psychology is relevant as well). I don't see much good in diluting stuff, there has to be a reason for it.
-
Where are all the modding tools or collections of them? Do we have an official list of things that make it easier? Or is all of this stuff old-school hacking?

The most important aspect I highlighted to N was that it needed to generate a coherent heightmap (in 0-255 white/black) and work from that as a base. -
Is this still valid with the current client?
-
Basically, the fundamental structure missing from this whole project is the calculation of the unit speeds/turn speeds from stats to game engine representation, as the server needs to emulate this exactly in order to keep things in tune. Any work on this part would be greatly appreciated. (Probably uses the same calculation from C&C95).
-
I fleshed out some of the concepts of this with nyerguds on the dev chat a couple evenings and I was wondering if anyone has actually tried to do this yet? It would certainly make map creation a little easier.

What core assets, ideas and concepts would be needed to create a proper C&C95 remake/clone(enhanced)? Throw the ideas out there, so we can pan this out a bit.
