  1. Hi! This is normal. What's the problem? It tries another server, and it does connect eventually, right? So, you're able to play, no? Nowadays they type "rdy". haha
  2. But it doesn't have to be buildable (during play), right? Just add them to your custom maps. Scatter some of those buildings around when you make new maps. Problem solved! Enjoy.
  3. Excuse me, what's the point? Blue or White, what's the difference? If it's neutral, your enemy would be able to use it as well. Is that what you want?
  4. I think you need to update the client.
  5. Banned from what? You can't join any game? What message do you get?
  6. You're right. I just tried that and got the same error. The good news is: it doesn't happen if you run the game without the client! Run RA2MD.exe Enjoy your saved games!
  7. It's almost certainly a driver issue. In that case, all you need to do is to update the graphics card driver. I've had that issue before. Totally solvable. It's not game over! and hopefully soon it will be mission accomplished. There are several good, free, XP-compatible software that can help you update your drivers easily, like: Snappy Driver Installer DriverMax Driver Booster 3DP Chip DriverIdentifier This is an arsenal of driver-updating software. You must be able to use the client very soon. No excuse! ? If you need any help, let me know. ?

    FATAL error

    Good to know. You're welcome.
  9. Actually you can, but you don't want to. ? You want to move along. It's your choice. Fine. ? It's not about dropping support for an old OS. It's about the users that would be affected by that decision. I doubt that anyone would abandon the client for such reason. Loyal fans who used to play this game on 56k modems won't be put off by minor hiccups. I mean the situation was much worse back then, so nothing would compare to what they've already experienced. You can make the client better, but it's already good as it is. I was aware of that. It seems like it supports your argument but it's actually irrelevant. We all agree that XP is old and inefficient in some cases, but it's not totally obsolete. Yes, they may not be able to vote on that particular platform, but they still can play the game (which is more important) and that's the issue. They can and want to play on XP, but they can't say it, and so their votes won't count, their opinion won't be considered, for technical issues; Because "the voting machine" wasn't working properly. Sorry to say, but, the poll was neither well advertised nor well conducted. It should've been advertised with a message within the client, open for discussion in the forum, and put to vote on a platform that works on old browsers, for fairness. It only makes sense! Major companies dropped supported for XP, but there are developers around the world still keeping it alive by providing unofficial updates and alternatives like these: Chromium-based browsers that still support XP in 2022 It's definitely good to upgrade, if that's an option! but unfortunately, as you know, in many cases, it's not. XP users will be thrown under the bus. Happy to do it. No, no, no. We're gonna continue this fight to the last minute! ? Whenever I have an issue downloading something, I try using a VPN, and that usually solves it. If the issue persists, try again with your favorite VPN and see what happens. ?

    FATAL error

The error message tells you exactly what you need to do to fix it.
  11. You're so welcome. Glad it did. If you haven't already installed these two, install them and try again: xnafx40_redist.msi (This is the one that's mentioned in the image above). VC_redist.x86_2.exe The first error message tells us that the updated version of the installer doesn't support Windows XP. 1. If it can be updated to the latest version, why not? That legacy installer is the same installer people were downloading for a very long time (probably years) until you replaced it with an updated one just about a month ago, and since both installers are fully updatable, there should be no problem in using either of them, because they're practically the same once they're updated. 2. To improve the client for some users, you cut support for others? If that's really necessary, It's better to provide a "vanilla" version of the installer (with the basic features only) to XP users, rather than to deny them the chance to play at all. I myself was calling for small improvements, because who doesn't like improvements? but I didn't expect that drastic measure. The ability to play and having more players are more important than any potential improvements. It's funny that XP users won't be able to play a game that was originally made for them. By the way, the numbers don't reflect reality. I think the majority of XP users didn't vote for some reason. Maybe because they didn't know about the whole thing, or maybe they couldn't, because major browsers no longer support XP and some websites don't function properly with old browsers, which makes it impossible to vote or even comment using some of them. If applied, I think that would exclude a considerable amount of players, which isn't good for anyone. Multiplayer games need more players, not less, and it already takes a while to have a full house. Anyway, I wanna help this gentleman use the client even if it's just for a day. ?
  12. I assure you that it can be run on old hardware. At least for now. I remember getting this error message when I did a clean install of the OS. Something was missing; a driver or something. I don't remember. I'm not sure what solved it for me, but It says something about the XNA Framework, so perhaps you need to install this: xnafx40_redist.msi In case that doesn't solve it, try this one: VC_redist.x86_2.exe Hope that helps. Good luck!
  13. Try this one: CnCNet5_YR_Installer.exe Make sure you update it.

    Gigamod

Thank you, sir. Good to hear from you. I appreciate your comment and the effort you've put in making this Gigamod. I wonder how many hours it took you to make it. It's epic!
  15. Impressive bump of a 2-year-old thread. ???

    Gigamod

Thanks, but I think the map is actually more impressive. The gentleman is introducing a map, not asking a question. Maps never get old. 2 year old or 20 year old, doesn't matter; age is totally irrelevant here. What if he reposted the exact same topic? Nobody would've noticed that it was posted before. So what's the difference? Starting a new one or bumping an old one. Same thing. Most topics are dead anyway, new and old. Reviving them doesn't kill anybody, I think. Although that wasn't my initial intention, I'm introducing the map to new audience by bumping the topic, and I guess some people who otherwise wouldn't have seen it, would like it. The game itself is 21 years old. How about that? Should we ignore and abandon it just because it's old? ? These maps are works of art which should always be appreciated, forever.

    Impressive.
  18. The Crate War mode was part of an unofficial mod which had different units, buildings, special effects, and extra crates. The mode itself is not supported by CnCNet, but similar elements can be found in some modded maps. Some have different units, others have special effects or extra crates or all of that. For example, this version of the popular Extra Small map has extra crates: https://mapdb.cncnet.org/yr/a2ce480b5e562370eefe5c8c74b1ba72024181ce.zip This version of OIL has modded units: https://mapdb.cncnet.org/yr/4763fe0e19988e6ed598f0ebbcf702f0d9b5047c.zip and I remember playing a funny version of Tour of Egypt which had special visual & sound effects, and other crazy mod maps which I don't know the names of. In one version of OIL, if mid oil is destroyed by anyone, a devastating meteor shower would hit all spots on the map. All those map mods can be done with the help of the Final Alert map editor. I think this is the mod that includes the Crate War mode: RA2Deez80.zip
  19. So, there's a nice option to invite players to join the game you're hosting, but it's only available in the "All Players" list. It would be easier to use if you would make it available with other lists as well, namely: - The list of players on the Right of the CnCNet Lobby (main lobby). - CnCNet Lobby (chat area). - Recent Players. and even better if you would make it possible to invite, without being the host.
  20. The "Extra Player Options" menu is extremely obscure. Most players don't know it exists, and some of those who know about it consider it "hidden". As if it's meant to be a secret menu. Please make it more visible. By the way, options presets do not include the extra options, and if you host a game after being in another, your game will inherit the extra options from the last game that you were in. Of course you could change them, but that's something to fix. Newly hosted game should not automatically remember any settings from the previous one. Another thing; when I load a preset, it applies correctly, but when a player joins the game, settings get reset, so I have to change them again manually or reload the preset every time a player joins, so it's not working properly. PS: They get reset only if I loaded a preset, not if I set them manually. Lastly; This is not a necessary thing, but you may wanna apply it: When a player picks a color, it should be greyed-out for the rest of players.
  21. Try launching the game through RA2MD.exe Good luck
  22. Are you sure it was the original map and not another version of it? If you were asked to download it, that means it's not the original. Anyway, this is not an "official" map. Although it's included with the client, it's not one of those designed by Westwood, so I'm not sure how fair it is. Unofficial maps can be designed to enable secret tricks (cheats) or give unfair advantage to certain sides/spots. Hiding buildings is one of so many things that can be done. A few things to keep in mind: - If you see a warning message that says something like: "The host has different files" when you join a game, that's a red flag. - If you're playing an unofficial map and the host always picks a specific side or spot, that's another red flag. - Some "cheat maps" look exactly like the original ones, with unnoticeable changes. - Generally, playing an unofficial map is risky, because it's hard to tell if there's something wrong with it and what that might be. Anyway, it might have been just a Pillbox behind a tree
  23. @abdouelrays@DirTy If you were using a VPN, turn it off and try again. If you weren't, try with a VPN! If that doesn't work, go to Options => Updater => Force Update.
  24. I no longer play against AI, but it "sounds" good ? Some unofficial maps include preset timers with temporary barriers (including ground and air defenses) that would cease to exist or be deactivated when the countdown ends, preventing players from attacking each other before that.
