ok I just tried that this morning. I couldnt tell much difference. all of it actually never stopped making ore, lol xD. it kept making and making and making. intitially 3x3, then 4x4 then 5x5 and it never stopped. -

Hello, Is there something you felt is outstanding in the game design and you appreciate as beautiful design? Is there something which is finely toned about the game balance? Let me start first: for game design, apart from the amazing starting scene, I quite liked the voice responses for most soviet tanks. It kind of showed how they feel their power (esp apocalypse) As for game balance, I liked the tankiness of miners the most. I played kknd2 before when I was kid, and it was really sad how oil trucks could get killed so easily. It was basically the go always, becuz everyone can only have maximum of 3 oil truck (more would be way too much), and they only needed about 4 hits from tanks. It almost felt that EA learned from that flow in design. What I like most about ore miners in ra2 is that can withstand a nuclear missile. I was shocked when I learned that, lol. Non-the less, it was probably the best balance approach so that they withstand hit n runs. Adding to that, that miners regenerate hp and that there is a repair facility, it was pretty good balance imo. As for power plants, hmmm, what is the area of tesla reactor compared to the allied power plant? If tesla reactor had 3/4 area of the APP, it would have been cool design as well. 3/4 price, 3/4 time, 3/4 generated power, and 3/4 space used lol. But i cant check that now atm :| And what about the space used by nuc. Reactor?

Ive been watching couple of pro games. It seema that the game is badically decided by 2 factors: 1-) how effecient the trade 2-)and who has more tanks I was actually surprised as to how the matches develop. I can see now why Warcraft III has tax for larger army and has unit cap. This style actually does seem very interesting. I also dont see why the map selection is always so small. Spy sat is bad in pro games because all pro maps are in a tiny millimeter. Its only natural for such small maps 4 dogs can reveal the whole map lol Anyway, I think navalmaps will be much better instead of just mass-tank maps lol. I even rarely seen amyone care to tick. Its basically mass rhinos vs mass grizzly game haha I think non pro style is much more enjoyable (maybe in warcraft too) I probably need to rethink about all of this. So far it seems that most statements in this thread can be valid in the correct map, although they seem contradicting. So its basically down to the personal preference and the balance should be made depending on maps popularity.

How are they both different? It seems to me nuke is better vs tanks and anthrax better vs infantry. Am I mistaken?

tbh this is absurd. I am sure there can be another way of balancing it after deleting this desolator. I have seen a mod in moddb says it balances stuff but I havent checked how exactly they did it. nonetheless, I think for example increasing radiation duration of libya bomb truck maybe can suffice and just delete that desolator. I never seen a game is balanced about 1 single unit

When you say explosions do you mean something like just one elite dreadnought or something like 25 dreadnoughts?

I found some AI and it did build naval units. It just didnt use dreadnoughts to attack land structures, lol

What tournaments are best tournaments to watch?

I didnt find that much on youtube. like I see some matches here and there the grand final etc but where is the whole tournament? it doesnt even tell the name of the tournament lol also, I tried to join xwis forum but I cant post anything for some reason so I left (it says I dont have privilege to view any forum) -
well it dosnt have to be something too OP. something like a wider transport or maybe a transport with a little more HP, or maybe for soviets, a ship (more or less like destroyer), wouldnt be OP, and USA or korea could be chosen over it. 2.) even it isnt really needed, it just seem a good design, and they can be used to escort transports. floating discs might not be the best escort to transport (couple of scorpion and they will be down) I tried sending a spy and an engineer into shipyard, and I couldnt. I did make the shipyard inside the land and it was still of no use.

Hello, I made 1/4 of a map (one quarter). is there way to mirror the map 4 times? what if I drew half of the map? is it possible to double the map to the right or to the top? thanks!

It is straightforward to work around maps with no naval availability; just like how naval shipyard is unbuildable on some maps, that particular country could be unselectable and un-randomable in such maps. It can also be used if some wanted a basic faction match up with no special units at all (i.e. that faction doesnt have to unselectable in such maps) Edit what if yuri had boomers early? They are still slow to build. If you are concerned about yuri being op, maybe that ship should have 1 gattling cannon and not 2 and doing half damage or anything that is significantly lower. Basically being similar to flak ship Well i dont want to get into you cant compare arguments. The reason why we compare things is becuz they are different and we want to illustrate differences.

Hello, After playing the game for a while, there 2 things attract my attention 1-) why is there no country with naval unit specialties? Maybe some unique ship. Weather its soviets or allies or both. 2-) why is there no gattling cannon ship for yuri? Isnt 2 ships seems a bit too limited Is there a mod that does such a think and is appealing? What happens if a spy somehow became amphibious and entered shipyard, or maybe the shipyard was too close to the shore such that infantry units can enter it (engs and spies)? Does a new ship become available?

Hello, I downloaded naval wars map from cnclabs, and noticed it was .mpr map. I tried renaming it to .MMX but I still couldnt see it. I also opened it in final alert and saved it as .YRM but I still couldnt find it. I have downloaded other maps before, whats up with this one? why do I not see it?

Well, I am not sure about the numbers, but cnc wiki says it does less damage than dreadnought and have shorter range as well. that is what it feels like too. it is actually useless sometimes. e.g. try playing vs 7 brutal AI and tell me what you can get out of it. You send it to the camp in the left of the map, she comes from the right and dies to the other AI camps. lol. I am actually playing a huge FFA map. well v3 might work vs allies cuz their crappy AA, but vs soviets it never ever worked for me(Except in masses of 15+ with no efficiency and lot of waste). the only reason I ever made v3 launchers before is becuz they are cool and they were cool at the starting scene. not becuz I particularly needed them nor becuz I couldnt win without them. In fact I always could win more easily without them but I create them for the sake of it. am I the only one who play Yuri? O_O do people play tournaments in RA2 or Yuri? I thought people do not choose Yuri because they think slaves are bad for mining as they die easily (esp since all sovs choose iraq lol). becuz I was only having yuri in mind lol well I think we are actually not too far apart. we both agree that allies having both better vision and tanks is the imbalance. You think they should lose their strong tanks, while I think they should lose a bit of their vision control xD the ACC and destroyer are playing an important role in the vision control. they can clear a little bit of the shroud and then order the ACC to attack something. then the hornet from ACC clear a bit more so allies can attack even further. soviets just dont have this luxury. so it isnt just the spy+gap generator. its almost all around. if we could attack the balck shroud then dreadnought would certainly be better. the rockies too play part in that. it is just... superior what would you do if 8 eagles went from the allies base down to the centre of the ocean and then came from behind of your base. you would re act if you had spy satelite. what maps are better for sovs and which are better for allies? also same question to you: do you pllay RA2 or Yuri? hmmm, do you think it is balanced that allies have late game and sovs have early? I couldnt test harrier vs 1 prism tank. anyway sovs dont have harrier to repel prism tank XD its like saying "flak cannons completely counter even lot of v3's". its true but allies do not have flak cannons. if v3 is bad, then allies AA is (maybe) equally bad and so v3 can be of some use. that link couldnt help becuz its talking about iraq not about sovs. Deso is imba? fine, ban it. lets move discussion a bit further and discussion soviets stuff other than deso. yes deso is imba I agree. pretend I picked russia now. still imba? he bassically mentioned soviets strengths and then said all alies strenths are countered by desolators so sovs are imba. lol, im not pro player. I dont even know how to play online, YET! I just posted what I felt like after finishing allied and soviet campaigns and that I lose with sovs even when I strike with 5 kirovs but I only need 6 radars and 1 strike to win almost any aliied mission (or some ACCs), and that with soviets I couldnt do anything like that becuz never had any vision and will never be able to utilize my dreadnoughts to full potential, unliss maybe I capture allied barracks and bring some scout rockies. hmmm I didnt know about these files. anyway, I couldnt find rulesmd.ini I only found rulesmd.dat it should be the same right? (I found same info you said is in there) but the .ini was ra2.ini and ra2md.ini is what I could find (and it has some settings and not units info)

I get black screen when un-minimize. Game is resposive and I can click pause or something i think (but i cant be too sure)

On the other hand, hornet is for free. the problem is when kirov get cought. harriers can change path and run away if they see flak tracks coming. kirovs are just too slow. the soviet will have to bring a force to defend it or will have to lose it @spy plane: spy plane is the worst vision gain of the game. many times the plane comes from the wrong side of the map and is destroyed by other camps. If you compare this to the Yuris radar vision, you will see Yuris is much much superior. Yuri can instantly reveal the gap generator and destroy it with his missles. yes his ships are bad but his reveal is much better than a spy plane. @Amphibious transport I didnt know that O_O @V3 see below @sieage choppers are quite good: I cant argue here. @miners: I think war miners give 1000 ore if im not mistaken @all people against my thought: what matter is the argument they have, @ Allies are hit and run = totally agree. My point is that hit and run tactics are superior to a full scale assault due to being much cheaper and more effecient. always forcing the opponent to re-act is what a good player want. that is why I think allies are imbalance becuz they can easily out maneuver their opponent. @harriers will die, yes but they would accomplish mission. even spending 12k for something is ok to me. when I destroy ConYard + WarFactory I kind of won the game already. but I have striked with kirovs before and sometimes even attacking with 6 can fail @Allies have better vision: are you saying sov have early game so allies must have late game? I think they both should have options for early and late game: not identical but something. @ACC vs Dread see above (first lines of this post) @V3 better range than prism: V3 cant be compared to prism tank. Prism tank has guaranteed strike. V3 only work in masses. I needed at least 10 V3's just to do damage to soviet enemy. probably Yuri is hard too. Dreadnought is just much better faster and more damage than v3. v3 is just bad. yes it can work sometimes but it is quite pathetic unit (just 1 harrier missles and shes dead). the only advantage V3 will have vs dreadnought is having vision on the rocket path. if V3 can work, it must be just becuz allies AA sucks (I dont think im the only one who think flak canons are OP compared to allies tower) I am not sure about the damage output exactly, but prism does 3 attacks for 2 from v3 launcher. the wiki also says it does more damage, but that probably differs depending on the target (maybe v3 does more damage to buildings or something? not too sure wiki says prism damage is 100 while v3's is 50) @miners dis-advantage: well you have a point here. maybe this makes them even then. the biggest problem being refineries costing space. also I checked the link you gave. it doesnt directly answer my points. it also assumes Soviets has to be iraq and using desolator (I guess becuz most pros do use it and its ok he brought it). the sad thing though, was that he is bringing desolator in almost every things. seals? deso is counter. Chrono legioners? deso, anything? deso is still counter. He still mentioned very important point which is my point here: that allies have better late game, and have more options too. if you look at the support structures here, you will see allies have 8 options while soviets have 6. I am not saying they have to be identical. I am saying when allies have something, soviets should also have another thing. and that they also should have something for vision control. it doesn't have to be a copy of what allies have. I also found something interesting: that someone there claiming he was top allies player in the ladder and he does not agree with the claims of the OP there and that soviets are not over powered. XD @ hit and run: sure. as far as I know, hit and run is better than full assault due being much cheaper and much more efficient. thats Why I said that reason why ally are imbalanced becuz they can out maneuver with their huge speed for many of their units @V3 being better range: see my comment on blazer above. tl;dr prism is just better than V3 launcher. @ but they have battle fortress late game. why would they have to have spy satelite too and gap generator? why is it all good vision techniques belong to the allies? ummm not too sure. I still was talking just about the faction disregard special unit availabilities. I think tesla tank is ok as well, not just the desolator. eitherway, what would happen if we assume no one has any specialty? i.e. like most missions in campaigns.
