Error Installing Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun for MacOS

Question

Hello,

I've also posted this on the portingkit forums, but I just realized I might get better help here. I'm trying to install Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun for MacOS (http://portingkit.com/game/366), but it gives me the attached error message when installing: "Error 12169 from wininet.dll". It looks like it's a problem downloading the game's resource files?

I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer!

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply, FunkyFr3sh! I was actually trying to install the full game and not just the online play, although it looks like the CnCNet app already got installed for me, possibly when I installed Tiberium Dawn or Red Alert? The PortingKit version is what's linked to at https://cncnet.org/tiberian-sun.

Anyway, I ended up opening the Wine wrapper and installed the EA Freeware version into it, then applied the CnCNet patch. Seems like everything's working now.

Instructions below for anyone who needs them:

  1. Attempt to install C&C Tiberian Sun + Firestorm from Porting Kit.
It fails at the error I originally posted about, but should install the necessary Wine wrapper, winetricks, etc.

  2. Download the EA freeware version OfficialCnCTiberianSun.rar (which contains the C&C: The First Decade version).

  3. Right-Click on the C&C Tiberian Sun + FireStorm app installed by PortingKit,
    and select "Show Package Contents"

  4. Extract OfficialCnCTiberianSun.rar into C:/Program Files/
so that all the game files end up in C:/Program Files/EA Games/Command & Conquer The First Decade/Command & Conquer(tm) Tiberian Sun(tm)/SUN/
The above path gets used in the registry file in step 9 below.

  5. Delete the C:/Westwood directory created by the PortingKit installer, as it's no longer needed

  6. Back at the root of the C&C Tiberian Sun + FireStorm app package, open the Wineskin app.

  7. Select Wineskin "Advanced"

  8. In Wineskin Advanced, select Tools -> regedit to open Registry Editor

  9. In Registry Editor, select Registry -> Import Registry File.
    Then, select C:/Program Files/EA Games/Command & Conquer The First Decade/tibsun_regadd.reg
    Then, close Registry Editor

  10. Download the "Patch for existing installations (Windows)" (TSpatch.exe) from https://cncnet.org/tiberian-sun

  11. In Wineskin Advanced, select "Install Software", and select TSpatch.exe

  12. The patch will automatically open the C&C launcher, close it to finish work on the Wine wrapper.

  13. In Wineskin Advanced, in the "Windows EXE" field,  select TSLauncher.exe, the path should look like this:
    /Program Files/EA Games/Command & Conquer The First Decade/Command & Conquer(tm) Tiberian Sun(tm)/SUN/TSLauncher.exe

  14. In Wineskin Advanced, select "Test Run" to make sure everything works.

  15. Close Wineskin Advanced and launch C&C Tiberian Sun + Firestorm.app

Both porting kit and our download are linked on https://cncnet.org/tiberian-sun and both contain the full game :)

But maybe you got an older version, the tiberian sun full game download was added just 1-2 months ago.

Anyways, if you got it working now then it's all good!

I downloaded it using the link on that page a few days ago. Just to make sure I'm not crazy, did that link get updated? I'm like 99% sure it was "Full Game via Porting Kit" for macOS when I dl'd it. If not, I don't know how I ended up using that version! 😅 Anyway, thanks for your help (and also for updating that link if you did!). I will probably uninstall the PortingKit version and use that one just in case I did something wrong

That's correct, there was a link to the porting kit too until yesterday (I removed it now since it's using an old installer).

Will add the link back when it gets updated, until then it's better to use our .app since it's always up-to-date

Thank you for your help, and for all your work in keeping this community alive. I'm very grateful to be able to play all the old CnC games again!

I installed the full download of Tiberian Sun and it works perfectly until the end of the second mission of the Nod campaign. After that the screen goes back and it gives the "Tiberian Sun Executable error" message and crashes. I've tried it a couple of times all with the same result. Is there any fix or anything I could try?

on the CncNet5 (RA, TS, TD version) there is usually a flashing green button that says "streaming" whenever someone is live on twitch but it doesn't show anymore. When shall this be fixed.

      Hi,

I have some questions regarding Final Sun.

Why does every time when I'm reloading my map in the editor the shape of all the Ice Ramps randomly get changed?

Am I missing an option to disable  this behavior (slope correction is disabled) regarding the slope logic and the Terrain Ground 0009 feature?
I'm using Final Sun that comes with the installer from https://cnc-comm.com/tiberian-sun/downloads/the-game/installer.

      Before

      and after reloading:

I played around a bit in tibed and was thinking. Wouldn't it be cool to have a mod that has the rules of c&c renegade but in an rts c&c game?
      Example:
Guard towers fire quicker, have longer range and are more armored and nearly 1 shot most vehicles.
Guard towers have line of sight rules meaning infantry and tanks that are really close to buildings and tall objects can avoid being fired upon. (not sure if this even possible)
You only get 1 guard tower with the exception of 2 - 4 pillboxes or Gun turrets
You get 1 refinery with a small amount of credits slowly accumulating overtime and then credit dumps as normal when a harvester returns
Each team is limited to 6 tanks
Engineer repairs infantry, tanks and structures over time
I'm  not sure how c4 and stuff would work. Maybe something in the form of an ivan bomb and you need 4 of them placed on a structure to go off in order to destroy it? Engineers should also be able to remove this.
Vehicle and infantry fire power, rate of fire should be increased to match the values in renegade.
Beacon placement for super weapons. A soldier drops the beacon and then it has a count down. Can be removed by engineer.
Beacon placements on barricks ends the match unless removed by engineer/advanced engineer
Advanced engineers: Hotwire / Nod technicians repair faster, deploy mines, shorter fuse ivan bomb?
engineers/ advanced engineers equipped with pistols
The game should basically all the renegade troops you could purchase such as havoc, sakura, etc with the same role sniping, rail gun etc.
All aircraft replaced by helicopters/orcas, all infantry/vehicles able to hit them with snipers and rocket soldiers doing the most infantry damage to them.

Basically an exact copy of the renegade game as close as you can get it but in the form of the many rts c&c games we have now. Though i think you'd want to put an limit on the amount infantry just like most renegade servers could only hand so many players. I think 70 was the biggest I remember back in the day on the renstation server.
