Suggestions and feedback needed for the Yuri's Revenge CnCNet 5 client
Nyerguds replied to Iran's topic in Red Alert 2
None of that even MATTERS before we got a ladder, though. To be honest, I'm kind of against the whole ladder idea. As you just demonstrated, it just attracts a flood of cheaters. Right now? There's nothing to cheat for. -
if you put the game to full speed (without limiting framerate through cnc-ddraw) to make the tiberium grow, and then harvest it, empty silos with build-cancel, let it regrow again and so on, I easily got to around 500-800k credits, which IIRC got me started with some 30k extra in the next mission

Ah. I usually use Gimp to convert frames to gif... it keeps the original palette, so that kind of stuff never happens

Um. Anticheat is already being done all the time, ladders are planned as far as I know, and 'paging' users ingame is just sending them messages, no? Or do you mean sending messages from outside the game to someone inside a game? -
Yeah, as Jacko said, a certain percentage is carried over. The campaign seems to contain strategically placed baseless missions to reset that, making sure you can't simply harvest tons in the first missions and keep carrying large chunks of that over all the way to the end.

Odd to distinguish between "C&C1 (Nyerguds version)" and Covert Ops... since my version not only includes the covert ops, but actually expands it with the console missions
-
Nice, nice. Wish we got models of the earlier games...

Livestreams by Hecthor Doomhammer of several C&C mods
Nyerguds replied to Hecthor Doomhammer's topic in General Discussion
You always post these far too late... at least post 'em a day in advance :-\ -
The shadow colours in some of these is the wrong green... is that an error in the SHP or did your conversion to gif just mess it up? Also, the shadow direction is completely wrong for RA1. You should redo those shadows...

An interesting exploit is that you can start with a gigantic cash bonus in mission 8 if you decide not to skip mission 7, with the classic endgame-harvesting trick. Especially if you got the Repair mission as #8, this is reeeally handy

Fairly sure they specifically took that out in the later C&C games to prevent the whole "ololol imma now declare war and take over your whole base" thing. -
I'm not sure actually. I think someone mentioned that there were problems with using that one.
-
Umm... Covert Ops and Counterstrike are just mission packs, really. They don't really show up as games. And the latest release version of RA kind of just contains the Aftermath units, so I'm not sure you can still consider RA without AM as separate game anyway. Anyway. Tiberian Dawn Über Alles!

It's just as annoying as ads, anyway
-
So, just the Grey Goo shortcuts, then?
-
That kind of stuff totally makes you sound like a spambot, you know that?
-
Since when does RA1 require a login to launch?
-
This is usually just because you use a resolution that's far too high. I advise not exceeding 1600x1200.

Ah, didn't know infantry had it too. I'm not really a RA1 modder What do you mean? There is a way of modding stuff, other then changing its .ini? Of course there is. It's the way all editing has always been done in C&C1, namely, editing the exe file with a disassembler / hex editor. But I wasn't referring to that at all. With "technically they can" I just meant that technically the game supports cloaking these kinds of game objects, as proven by the fact stealth crates affect them. Those stealth crates just flick the "is cloaked" switch on these game objects. As I said in my first reply, there are simply no ini keys for cloaking them by default, since the type definitions in rules.ini just contain a very limited subset of the full list of these game objects' options. Many of those would be related to internal programming anyway, and not useful for editing. Besides the Phase Transport in the Aftermath expansion, though, the only cloaked unit in Red Alert 1 is the Submarine.

What's next CNCNET5 is about to support?
Nyerguds replied to Jeneral Yusuf's topic in CnCNet Discussion
The Gamespy-based post-RA2 games won't be supported by CnCNet. That's not its area, and C&C: Online already covers these. From what I heard, RA2 is next. And if I remember correctly, there are already Renegade servers hosted by us somewhere, somehow. -
Technically they can, but in reality it's only exposed to the ini side in boats and vehicles.

Suggestions and feedback needed for the Yuri's Revenge CnCNet 5 client

I looked into volume, and it seems like adjusting the volume of a played sound is actually a horribly complicated matter. All tutorials I found seemed to mess with the whole system volume. The only other alternative was actually modifying the sound and doing volume decrease algorithms on its binary data before playing it. -
Don't think so. While perfectly possible internally, WW had the tendency to only implement such options if they actually needed them anywhere.

Well, ALL units and structures have a point at which the projectile spawns, that generally matches the end of the barrel, so I just don't really see what the difference would be :-\ Mind you, I haven't actually found these firing offsets so far. A cloned extra unit I added just used the actual unit center.
