  1. Definitely default settings: short game (finding the last remaining unit could take hours) credits = 10,000 (any less makes the first 2 minutes 'actionless' (for a lack of a better term) and boring, any more will encourage too much rushing) mcv repacks (having to make multiple mcvs on some maps just to expand will be really annoying) destroyable bridges (debatable because it can cause stale mates, but it's been enabled for so many years so probably best to leave it) no crates (crates make it impossible to catch cheaters, and it also creates too much luck which removes the need for skill) unit count = 0 (I'm not sure about this one, but 0 starting units have worked for a long time) random starting positions (makes it more fun, plus players won't have to argue over spots) As for maps, Westwood/Standard maps and also community approved Standard maps (no modifications to unit speed, armor, cost, graphics... etc.) Those settings have proven to work for years. The following settings is just my suggestions (but no doubt others too): lock speed to fastest (no more speed sabotaging to make a match not count due to low fps, and also annoy other player) multi engineer (even the best players of all time have trouble against a $500 engineer being able to end a game)
  2. Now yes, but if all those who want a YR ladder start playing there, the situation will change. Think. Players already do this for RA2, including myself (up until a few months ago anyway, before I got busy). But a ladder here would make this place so much more awesome than it already is, plus there are way more people to compete against here. EDIT: I'm aware that the topic title is 'Yr ladder', but that's only because RA2 here is only a 'mode' and thus refers to both games (I'm pretty sure anyway ). But you do have a good point.
  3. Really? How much does Grant know these days? C#? Assembly? I thought he was more of a web-developer / advertising guy. If you play there, you'll have the highest and lowest rank at the same time. Just curious; if you did this, and other YR related coding in the future, would you make it open-source?
  4. So... is Alex allowed to do it?
  5. Well there's Alex, but even if we paid him, would the cncnet admins welcome it? He's really not a bad guy btw, his entrance into the cncnet forums was just a little... uh... over the top, that's all. Just ignore his self-promotional posts
  6. 3 point turning in the middle of a battle field - hahaha (that's what my wife would do).

    YR lives

I disagree; the other games don't have other online communities to lure... I mean... invite here... RA2 does, namely XWIS, Game Ranger and the monster community of them all... QQ Battle. All these communities love competition.
  8. I cannot seem to download from that link. Do we really have to download the files just to be able to watch them in 1080p quality??? Is YouTube.com still blocked in China?
  9. Nice videos. I have a few questions: 1. Where were these matches played, CnCNet or QQBattle? 2. How can I watch in 1080p video quality? Also, can I make some suggestions: 1. Do not scroll around the map too quickly, it makes it very difficult to watch. You are worse than me! 2. I prefer only sound effects, no music please. If you have only sound effects, the viewers can play their choice of music in the background if they want.
  10. I'm jealous... wanna swap wives?
  11. I wish there was a mod of Tiberian Dawn that: was so close to the original that it only needed a few tweaks for it to feel exactly like the original had a forum where we could post our suggestions and tell the modders exactly what needed to be tweaked had AI that could build a base had ginormous maps had a 'Classic' mode for an old skool style of play had an 'Enhanced' mode to spice things up a little had options like 'Extreme AI', 'Turtling AI' allowed for 8 players worked on cncnet ...stuff like that. But oh well, maybe one day.
  12. Not anymore. The closest thing to it being free is the link above^ (EA hasn't taken it down after all these years, so it must be legal).
  13. Have you tried xwis' multiplayer-only version? I don't think any mods will work with the cncnet version because you can't even do a simple rules.ini edit, due to anti-cheat coding. Not that that's a bad thing. If you're computer savvy and you love your older games like RA2 that much, and you still have a copy of Win7, I would suggest to do what I've done for my nephew and dual boot his Win10 with Win7. Just make sure that you have a different serial number for Win7 (you probably won't if you upgraded from win7 to win10), otherwise it might not work. And also Win7 drivers. If all goes well, you will have very little to no problems running RA2/YR and other older games. If you know what you're doing, it shouldn't take too long. If you've never dual booted before, and you're afraid to mess up, don't do it. You know what, fuck it. That's the cowards way out; research it some more until you're confident. Then do it. Why put up with incompatibilities, workarounds, 'fixes', not to mention constant updates that you can't stop, when there's a better option. But admittedly there are some pretty cool free Win10 apps and games though, so dual boot to get the best of both worlds.
  14. As long as you have a decent antivirus program, it really doesn't matter which site or server you go to. You can always compare results at https://www.virustotal.com/en/ for false positives. But that said, I'm sure the cncnet team won't let 8+ years of work and 8+ years of trust in the fans be ruined by malicious code in their server. I've been using this server since close to it's beginnings (but didn't register until about 2011) and haven't encountered any suspicious activity.
  15. A long time ago, in a server now long gone, rocketeers used to be seen as useless units and crates (enabled) was a standard game setting. Now, rocketeers come out in the first 3 minutes of a match, and crates are removed from the xwis ladder maps. My point is, it takes years to really know a game inside-out and be able to correctly balance it. Therefore (and please don't hate me when I say this), in my opinion, only the players that compete on the xwis ladder month after month and are finishing in the top 10 month after month and have done so for years would be able to do this.
  16. I vote 'no' because the CnCNet client/lobby is unique, no other classic C&C servers/communities have it. It's one of the things that make CnCNet... well... CnCNet. But I guess if it were an option, like the skins, and people could choose 'Classic Lobby' or something, then why not.
  17. It'll work against some people (not my video): http://youtu.be/JN2lYwXoEw0?t=611

  19. No idea. I had so many maps that I haven't even played half of them. You'll have to just download them yourself and do a search I'm afraid.
  20. Let us know how you fixed it, for future reference (for others who may encounter the same problem).
  21. Make sure that all the game-icons are selected (top right of lobby).
  22. Hmmm, odd. Tell me which maps (and from which link) are you trying to add so that I can try to add them to my game when I get a chance. There might be something wrong with the maps themselves.
  23. The game client at cncnet.org requires you to also have Yuri's Revenge installed. If you already have the multiplayer-only version of RA2 downloaded and installed from xwis.net's Downloads section, you can now also do the same with the multiplayer-only version of YR. Make sure to install both in the same folder. After installing both games, try the CnCNet Installer from cncnet.org again. Note: If you just want to play RA2 in single-player mode, you don't need the CnCNet Installer. To play RA2 online at xwis.net, you only need the multiplayer version of RA2. This server is mainly for high-level players. To play RA2 online here at cncnet, you'll also need YR installed. This server is mainly for casual players, but also some high level players can be found.
  24. That is a downloadable/digital version, and it does work with Windows 10, albeit with some tweaks. If you do decide to purchase it, start it up and see how you go. If you have any problems, you'll have to search through this forum for answers and see which ones work for you, as the solutions differ from pc to pc. You can also create another help topic if you can't find anything. If all else fails, you have 7 days to ask for a refund at Origin. New operating systems are old-school gamers' worst enemy. Don't worry, you're not alone!
