Yuris Revenge RA2 & YR Maps - A ginormous collection of maps!
fir3w0rx replied to fir3w0rx's topic in RA2/YR Maps
It should have a Maps\Custom folder. Maybe something went wrong with the installation, or you're looking in the wrong folder. I suggest to re-download the client from cncnet.org and make sure that you have both RA2 AND YR installed. Once the Maps\Custom folder does exist, only copy into it the map files, without the folders. -
How do you 'get' it 'to happen'? I've just tried playing a single player skirmish game with $999,999 starting credits and 'Multiple Factory' setting disabled. It didn't work with multiple MCVs, Pads, Warfactories or Barracks. Can you only do it online? Not in TS (except with the Multiple Factory setting enabled). Are you guys trolling? Coz I really can't tell.

Go to the Downloads section of xwis.net (EA-sponsored server) and install the multiplayer-only version of RA2, then copy all the .mix files from both the Allied and Soviet CDs. Start the game with 'Red Alert 2.exe' in admin mode. Until EA releases a patch for the original RA2 discs to work without SafeDisc (don't hold your breath), this is probably the best method. Alternatively, you can visit origin.com and purchase The Ultimate Collection. Also, since you're running this in Windows 10, I'm afraid you're more than likely going to run into more problems, usually graphics related. But fortunately there are fixes. I've just tried this on my Win 10 Pro x64 - no luck. Setup.exe still won't start. I've tried running in admin mode trying all the compatibility options. Didn't work. I entered a couple of my RA2 serial numbers (one from the original disc and the other from the bonus disc that came with RA3).

I was actually planning to come back to ALL the classic C&Cs these holidays, but things keep coming up that keep eating up all my gaming time. I'll eventually get around to it. Thanx for the invite btw... Happy 2016!

Armor Clash finished early access and come to version 1.0
fir3w0rx replied to Windforce's topic in General Discussion
At a glance, it reminds me of Act of Aggression. I might check it out while it's 20% off Btw, I think you should direct everyone to one discussion forum and encourage them to post there, like at your Steam forum for example. That way, everyone can see everyone else's post. Plus it'll be much easier for you to keep up with your fans' opinions/suggestions/videos/etc. -
Oh ok, understood. Kind of like when I sat on Santa's lap a couple of weeks ago for a photo - it didn't quite feel right. But anyway, all I'm saying is that these ideas are very possible in DTA, but not so much in the original, maybe even impossible without doing a crazy tonne of hardcore binary level hacking.
-
That doesn't magically make a TS mod into C&C1 though. You might as well mention OpenRA  Well if you call it 'magic', then Bittah Commander has abracadabra-ed the hell out of TS! Imo, if it looks like a Mammoth, moves like a Mammoth, sounds like a Mammoth, blows up stuff like a Mammoth... IT'S C&C1!!! I agree that the added features (being able to queue up units, holding down SHIFT and making another box to add more units to a group, pressing a hotkey to auto-select similar units, and so on) make DTA feel a little different to the original. But I'm sure Bittah can easily add an option to disable those features if there was enough demand for it. I would have mentioned OpenRA but I've never gotten it to work. *EDIT: Production Queuing can already be disabled. Besides the added features, what else makes DTA feel different to C&C1?
-
Just about all of these suggestions, plus much more, are already in the Dawn of the Tiberium Age mod... just tell all your friends to play that!!! Furthermore, anything that hasn't already been implemented can be accomplished much easier in DotTA than the original.

i like to start off slow then gradually get faster and faster, then go to sleep.

Is it possible to build units. More than 30 units at a time
fir3w0rx replied to suksawat1's topic in Red Alert 2
@suksawat1: The file rulesmd.ini is actually inside the file local.mix, which is inside the file ra2md.mix (ra2md.mix -> local.mix -> rulesmd.ini). You can extract it, and anything else you want, by using a tool created by Olaf called XCC Mixer. You can download this tool from XCC Home Page, Utilities section. Extract rulesmd.ini into your Yuri's Revenge folder. Once extracted, you can now go ahead and modify the above mentioned value; 'MaximumQueuedObjects'. I've only tried changing it from 29 to 99, but you can probably go even higher, I'm not sure. Save the file and restart the game. You can of course modify any other value in that file to see what it does. Just play around with it. If you mess the file up, just extract the original version again from ra2md.mix. To return Yuri's Revenge to it's original state, simply delete rulesmd.ini. Note: This works on every version of YR (even the Origin version) except for the CnCNet version. It must have been disabled (which was a wise thing to do), probably by Rampastring. Also, I've tried modifying that^ value directly in ra2md.mix like you did using TextPad, but for some reason it doesn't work. Just use the above method. For an easier way to modify RA2/YR and also other classic C&C games, check out TibEd 1 (not TibEd 2, which is for the more modern C&Cs). -
Do you guys all have PayPal accounts? I'm aware of Hifi's PayPal account which is linked to the donate button, but what if people wanted to, for example, buy/fund beers, or buy their family a roast pork, or pay for a lap dance for specific members who really made a difference to their game? I think there should be an option in the forum profiles to enter a PayPal address that is visible to everyone. Or maybe even just post it here in this topic. Just an idea.

fir3w0rx replied to suksawat1's topic in Red Alert 2
Nice little hack! This can be abused for online games. Yeah thanx to whoever *Bret is . How can it be abused though exactly? How can one use it to their advantage? *MaximumQueuedObjects is in the 'Bret's hack section' of rulesmd.ini, for those wondering. -
Maybe you've been playing on the Meatgrind maps. Or you're using a low screen resolution and you have to scroll down the sidebar

Woah, where are all these crazy quotes coming from?! The current ladder already supports YR. Just waiting on the client to start sending results. Rampa posted his status above Oh oops, I could've sworn you did. Maybe it was Funky or Grant or Rampastring One of you guys.
-
Olaf didn't say that, his #1 fan/long lost wanna-be son Tomi said that! Tajh, the cncnet ladder maker guy, said (paraphrasing) that the RA2/YR ladder will be made after all the bugs have been ironed out of the TS and RA1 ladders, because the same template will be used.

VS a Small group of mirages (10-15, give or take) - Force fire each one with your rhinos. VS a Large group of mirages - If you're Iraq, use deso-bombs (flak trak filled with desos). If Libya, demo truck. Both are difficult to pull off, but extremely effective. If the mirages are close to one of your buildings, have a Psychic Sensor ready (only in RA2, not YR). You might have to lure them in, but when they get close enough to your building, move your rhinos in and place the sensor down. Difficult to time it, but very effective. If you have about the same amount of rhinos as mirages (no grizzlies or anything else), the mirages that don't get away from the sensor in time are as good as dead. NOTE: If you're neither Iraq or Libya, there supposedly are ways to effectively force fire against a large group of mirages such as -force firing the the second row of mirages which supposedly also hits the first row with the 'splash' damage -force firing back and forth from left to right or top to bottom, firing at every 2nd or 3rd tank really quickly but I haven't been successful with these 2 techniques, perhaps I'm doing it wrong or need more practice, I don't know.

ISSUE RESOLVED: Red Alert 2 wouldn't install on W10
fir3w0rx replied to Techno_Man's question in Support
But doesn't RA2 need to be installed before YR? How did YR work if RA2 didn't? I don't understand. -

Red Alert and Tiberian Sun ladder map discussion
fir3w0rx replied to FunkyFr3sh's topic in CnCNet Discussion
The xwis ladder, created by Olaf van der Spek, shows the main ladder (showing the best player over all). But it also has a drop-down list to show who has the most points using Soviets only Allieds only Great Britain only Iraq etc... The Tiberian Sun ladder (which is now empty after all the TS player migrated here) has a drop-down box to show who was best using only GDI or only Nod. In effect, it's a lot of different ladders combined into one. Maybe the same thing can be done here but with original Westwood maps and mod maps in the drop-down list. I'm not sure about having a drop-down list for each specific map though 'cos that'll be one hell of a long list. Xwis also has a Stats section showing the amount of times each faction was used for the month each map and which player and clan played the most games for the month. We should kidnap Olaf and tie him up to the cncnet server and keep him theree until he implements all that^ here. The xwis ladder owns! -
I think the best people to ask for TS fixes are the Twisted Insurrection modders (If you can get them to give up some of their free time) - they know TS mechanics inside out. But first make sure the CnCNet admins will allow the 'fix' to be applied here, otherwise it'll be a waste of people's time.
