Tore
TL:DR version: CnCNet 5 is awesome! Took a long time to make and test! TS and RA2 not supported yet! Download here! After over a year of work and testing CnCNet 5 has finally been deemed stable enough for an official release! Compared to CnCNet 4, CnCNet 5 is coded from scratch and takes advantage of the online systems Westwood implemented into the games. CnCNet 5 has a external lobby system which gets rid of the old and buggy LAN lobby. No more games disappearing or glitches related to kicking people from the game. You can also say good bye to lag caused by the LAN netcode as previously hinted to CnCNet 5 makes use of the WOL netcode making games go smooth. CnCNet 5 works perfectly despite closed ports due to the improved tunnelling system which also lets multiple people in the same household play with people online. The CnCNet 5 lobby uses an IRC server which allows you to send private messages, make passworded lobbies game and to communicate with players. You can connect using a normal IRC client as well, but you won't have any game functionality. Currently CnCNet 5 supports Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Support for Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun is in the works as is other Westwood Online enabled games, maybe even a game where you fight over a certain "waterless world". Below are a list of changes to the individual games: Command & Conquer - Over 160 maps to choose from by default. - New option: Auto Crush Infantry - New option: MCV Undeploy - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Red Alert - Over 430 maps to choose from by default. - Automatic transfer of custom maps - Choose starting location - Choose alliance - New option: Fix Formation Exploit - New option: Fix Range Exploit - 12 other new game options - Automatic transfer of custom maps - No limit on starting money Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Iran is working on it with help from CCHyper! If you are interested in following development look here: http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=498086 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Not yet supported, use CnCNet 4 in the mean time. - Needs a developer, if you are interested go to irc.freenode.net in the channel #cncnet. CnCNet 5 would not have been possible if it weren't for the hard work of hifi (backend), FunkyFr3sh (frontend) and Iran (tons of new features in the games). Features such as ladder etc will come soon. CnCNet provides ready to play versions of both Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert. FunkyFr3sh
The client crashes right away after I launch it. BTW, is there a support forum? Can you provide some more info? OS ? do you see the login screen/updater or do you crash right away? can you copy/paste the error log please (gamefolder\CnCNet5\Logfiles)
XTF
Windows 7 x64, it crashes right away ("CNCNet5 Client has stopped working"), there's no CnCNet5 sub dir.

FunkyFr3sh
Do you have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed? it is part of windows 7 only XP users need to install it manually
XTF
Hmm. Where do I find the source code?
FunkyFr3sh
source code is not available for the client, but it wouldnt help you anyways the error logging should always work, even if its crashing right on the start .. something on your end is broken if you are sure you have allowed it in your security programs then i would suggest to try to re-install the .net framework 2.0 .. thats a bit of hassle tho
XTF
source code is not available for the client, but it wouldnt help you anyways Why not? the error logging should always work, even if its crashing right on the start .. something on your end is broken if you are sure you have allowed it in your security programs then i would suggest to try to re-install the .net framework 2.0 .. thats a bit of hassle tho I doubt that's the problem. It does work on another computer. Some things I noticed: HiDPI isn't supported. Why not? Escape key doesn't work in Settings dialog. Enter doesn't work in Login dialog. Language dropdown only shows 8 lines, could show more. Settings dialog is on top of other app windows, even when task switching. It shouldn't be. Button order is opposite of Windows defaullt. Install into Downloads folder, not into Program Files. The client is really nice though, congratz!
FunkyFr3sh
if its crashing before any code is executed then the source wouldnt help, the logfile stuff is the first thing it takes care off dpi scaling is supported, but some people try to run high dpi settings on very small resolutions and it would draw out of the screen. it works fine if your screen is big enough to handle the scaled size yes i still need to make enter/esc working on many places, only did it only a few things yet. each message box and settings stuff shows on top to catch attention it does not install, it is just a self extractor. Using the program files folder would require permanent admin rights to be able to use the client so it defaults to the current folder which most likely is the download folder of the current user (no admin rights required there)
XTF
if its crashing before any code is executed then the source wouldnt help, the logfile stuff is the first thing it takes care off A debugger might indicate what's wrong. dpi scaling is supported, but some people try to run high dpi settings on very small resolutions and it would draw out of the screen. it works fine if your screen is big enough to handle the scaled size What size would that be? each message box and settings stuff shows on top to catch attention They're above the app window by default aren't they? Preventing the user from properly switching apps is plain bad..
FunkyFr3sh
Not sure how far you get with the debugger, it seems to crash anywhere in the framework itself before it even tries to run the client i guess anything above 1280x720 should be fine they are above by default, but would be below all other windows if the user turned "always on top" on for other windows in the settings. It was just added to ensure nothing jumps on top of the settings window while you are changing your settings. Only the dialogs which are meant to be open for a short time show on top like this
