*What would give more strategic depth to my maps? What does that entail? Different routes /paths /choices for people to take? What else? (I always thought making it as easy for people to learn as possible was a good idea because people don't like having to learn a map and be at a disadvantage due to map unfamiliarity) The second one is empty your balls remastered I wanted not just an open field like you said. I made a viral map so I tried to then add balance to it and not just have an open field like you recommended. The Nevada map is for 4 people not 6 and its blocked in the middle , you cant base creep everywhere, and has no water nor is it the middle start game style, its also natural looking and therefore unsymmetrical not unnaturally themed. (see earth scar vs ruby ridge for a remaster, and that shouldn't be a bad thing anyway its nice to have choice and there are only so many tiles or combinations many maps are going to look somewhat similar ) The eye candy around the edge is simply to create a circular shaped map so it has optimal balance for all 6 players (which is why I use this samey template alot I have to) as its something that is impossible/near impossible to balance on a square map. I cant put eye candy in the middle because you need to make room for enough tiberium, for people to move, etc but im free to put eye candy around the outside so I do. Theres a massive space constraint on 6 player maps especially circular ffa ones People want alot of tiberium and for 6 player maps you need alot more tiberium too just for 6, and the maps are small so its very difficult to fit in strategic depth balance symmetry and not just have an open field, you are limited by room, I think I did as much as I possibly could, if I reduced the tiberium amount no one would play it at all. Also if I make more 2/3/4 player maps no one will play them either everyone wants the 6 player maps these days. Which are really hard to make due to limited room to fit everything on. What do you recommend I do concerning these problems?

Any popular map that I make and that you see that look like something very ugly fast to make and unbalanced will be updated so its at least reasonable looking and reasonably balanced taking heed in what White and Cn2mc have taught me about map making. All final versions of the maps I make will be of this reasonable standard. Here are two maps for proof of that. I havnt decided on the final designs of these 2 but I just wanted to show that im not just polluting the place with low effort badly balanced money maps, I am making an effort to make good maps and hopefully the final versions of these maps will cause the older versions and less decent maps to stop circulating.

Oh just 1 thing White expect some of the trolls you know the ones, to try and create a rift between me and people in here, and between people in general , you know the silly stuff they get up to, im just saying im not a part of it even if they try to make it look that way...

Somehow this was fixed, now I can play without out of syncs no problem. . GGeneral must have a corrupt game he says, he caused the most out of syncs by far, he said he didn't realise it was him despite the non stop out of syncs hes been causing in my and other peoples games Mike Pence uses it as a trolling method, or if he has to wait for people to finish a game he would rather cause an out of sync than wait etc or if uve just made a new map he will keep doing it on that map so you think its corrupt by mistake and so others will too, white he does this to your maps too so they don't catch on Justme causes out of sync on 6 player games because hes using a wifi connection which isn't stable enough even if its fast. He still tries his luck at 6 player games despite it causing problems for everyone else . They rarely work when hes playing. There are a few others that I suspect but its early days, not sure if this is breaking the forum rules but I think its good that people know the truth rather than get messed about.

Thanks alot cn2mc you just upped my game once again really appreciated! Its awesome you are training people too in the game, noobs are a problem for making team games. Also your advice and whites on map making is having an effect on my maps , over time less and less junk will be in the system and more and more balanced well designed maps will be out there since ive been listening to what you guys advise. I wouldn't mind if all my maps were deleted off the system so then I can release only the best ones ive made that are well balanced good looking etc but hopefully in time that wont be necessary as the lesser ones gradually phase out

Nyer im getting out of sync loads what causes it and is there anything I can do to stop it? Will turning off music help? We cant even get a game going its so bad now.

Thanks for the advice and the invite X3M, it means alot but im so addicted to cnc1 I don't even want to play any other game, AOW sounds like an awesome RTS but I cant and don't want to break my cnc1 addiction, do you know how it is? Thanks X3M bro!

This is single handily the most annoying glitch that ruins countless amounts of fun. While it probably cant be stopped outright what causes it and how can we minimise the number of times it keeps happening? 1) Some people cause glitches on purpose this is a trolling method people use, I could name the people that do it but don't want to break the forum rules, so ban them for starts permanently, to teach them a lesson , its bad enough we are plagued with this glitch without trolls then adding to it and making it worse. a) Watch for patterns, what for players and how often glitches occur when they play 2) Turn off all programs and internet pages that are on in the back ground, this seems to help not sure if it does 3) Connect with people as close in location as possible? 4) Restart the game and even your pc if the OOS keep happening many times in a row What else helps reduce them? Im worried that im causing them too and I seriously don't want that. Can they be stopped by nyer or other top guys? Someone managed to make 6 player possible when b4 it always OOS failed?

It so annoying being mid sentence with someone then some1 messages you and you type it to them instead happens all the time. I hate it so much. Even when I click low priority for the personal message thing it still switches my typing to that box mid sentence. Who designed it this way? Is there anyway to just turn off this personal message chat function?

Lets say you cant rely on turrets hon etc and you have to face GDI head on and they have lots of med tanks and troops. Maybe even mammoths. Usually I almost solely rely on light tanks, because they can efficiently and quickly kill the troops and they are good vs tanks too even if they are inferior in efficiency vs GDI meds, I find their numbers and ease of focus fire for nod and not so much for GDI I find them still worthy for tank battles vs GDI meds. I back up the light tanks with bazookas and a much lesser amount of flamers too. But its predominantly tanks. I find bikes a waste, because they die so easily cant handle troops, are inferior to bazookas vs armour, and they tend to speed ahead away from the slow moving mix, and die early. I rarely find meds alone they are always backed up by troops so I just use bikes separately for harvester hunting and strikes on buildings etc Buggies I find are a nice distraction to make focus fire even harder for GDI and add a little to the damage when they are not under fire. Something about them bulking out the group seems effective? Artillery are useful vs troops and im not sure but the spash damage they have seems to work better in combination with other types of damage, even vs tanks its like the different warheads compliment and enhance each other when you mix them, up, but anyway artillery are ok has its uses but I tend to leave them out because I just want more tanks due to fear of the dreaded meds. __________ So anyway in short I use, light tanks and bazookas predominantly, the light tanks to handle troops and tanks the bazookas to boost the efficiency of the weak light tank to med or even mammoth tank ratio of damage. Should I have everything in a big mix? Liike every single unit all mixed together? Is that really more efficient? How can I improve on what im currently doing? (without relying on turrets hon and lazers)

I know if you stagger how you harvest on tiberium dawn (think a chess board harvest only the black spots) you can grow your own tiberium faster , im pretty sure its the same on ra1. Im pretty sure the longer you wait and the more you "stagger" how you harvist the more money you will get over all. Harvisting too soon gets you more money now but much less long term. So you have to guage how much of a threat you are under before you decide how to harvest. Good question!

Thankyou White, what about a 1 refinery build with a conyard sell then surely theres no way the 3 refinery build can hold up to that? So if they habitually do a 3 refinery build or you guess they will, sell up and go all in? (just an average map not anything with any unusual features or very specific design just a joe blogs map like green acres or a 1v1 on say Zodiac opposite sides) It seems a bit of a guessing game because you cant scout in time before you see what their build will be so you have to decide what your build will be before the game begins? Its like the best two options seem like an extreme all in of some sort maximising speed unit production and money for units (not many refineries and not just buggies) extremely early, or a jack of all trades 2 refinery build,? (for most maps at least)

Hmm so you think even with the big delay the 3 refinery build is still better off, this would be an average map an average distance for 1v1 not long not short longish. Just an average 1v1 map. So the 3 refinery build would have to spend a lot of money on troops, defence structures, blocking structures and yea perhaps they can defend early then be better off late. I can see that. What I cant see is a 3 refinery build working against an all in conyard sell with 1 refinery I think it would break the 3 refinery build? What do you think?

Can my vote be undone I picked the wrong one? Judging by what cn2mc says it is an inferior way to do it because there's so few units and structures in TD, if there were alot of units/structures it would be the better design. Also will it make the game slower and require more hotkeys? Hot keys are a chore to learn not an enjoyable part of rts imo, im all for minimising hotkeys where ever possible, why add MORE buttons to learn especially if they are unnecessary? It just makes it harder to control when you are in a high adrenaline game. Also I think votes on this are going to be very faulty any normal rational person is going to choose what looks like a neater clearer better layout ie the ra2 layout but many of them will lack the knowledge someone like cn2mc has , and if they had that knowledge they'd vote the opposite way.- 8 replies

1 refinery beats 3 refinery builds (has the edge) 2 refinery beats 1 refinery builds ('') 3 refinery builds beat 2 refinery builds ('') So under normal circumstances (not close range where the dynamic changes ) its like a rock paper scissors scenario with which build beats another, and you are just trying to guess what build they will use based on their habits? ((if they are of near equal skill) skill superiority triumphs regardless of build, and the highest % build is the 2 refinery build which is why the 3 refinery build became popular in the 1st place, its only really a high% guess/counter build? ) The more refineries you build the more you are buggered short term and bettered long term so that's why the 1 refinery build is a danger to a 3 refinery build? But the 2 refinery build beats a 1 refinery build because its close enough in timing to survive the early rush and it will be more likely to win long term due to extra funds. So really we all need to be practicing 1 2 and 3 refinery builds and switching it up each game?

That's what I found with experimentation, but im no troop expert skill wise, that's probably my weakest skill, so I couldn't determine if it was just me or the actual build. Thanks you know your cnc, who are you in the lobby bro, ive never seen such passion in the forums before, you're really into the remaster!

Awesome thanks cn2mc bro that's just the answer I was looking for, Lovehandles said one time that he sometimes like s a 4-5 refinery build, I wonder what context he meant by that it was on green acres maybe that's one of the few maps where you can almost do a close range fight/smothering tactic because its so wide open and easy to sprawl on and kinda close sometimes. Thanks bro!!

Yea infinite ore sucks, I will give ra1 another go on aftermath settings on a map that prevents the glitches, that's the closest you can get to a fix. Then like you said you had a fun varied interesting game. Thanks bro!

I totally agree, I had your mod in the back of my mind as I wrote this, it address all the issues in RA1 in a beautiful way, and adds all the awesome cnc1 units to boot which I find exciting, I just love the squishing part and that's a big reason for why I don't play it, maybe I should try and get over that since there are other non realisms in cnc1 like tanks not killing troops with tank shells, and bases being built at all. Yea that is quite the compliment. Deep. Would be great to have another game bro!

Or do they just like winning, and they have built so much skill around an unintended unfixed glitch in the game that their ego is now intertwined and in defence of something ridiculous and embarrassing? Attacking with buildings? Attacking with something that was meant only for defence and to be stationary? Are you serious? You really want that for a game? Something that would be laughed at and ridiculed in any modern gamming review? Does RA1 not need a balance overhaul ? Troops are a side note even though they are varied and interesting enough to be a deep strategic part of the game if they were buffed, same goes for the variety of other units that never get used like rangers, mine layers, hinds etc and the navy dynamic is ridiculous, cruisers are the only thing worthwhile due to again another huge glitch over force fire and generally them being OP esp in large numbers. If you search deep down in your soul do you really think ra1 should stay broken as it is or should it be fixed? Fixes 1) MCV after tech centre or no build speed boost for buildings, so even more strict than aftermath. = The intended use of Base defence more or less. Plus real battles with units not bases. Tanks could get a plus 2 build speed boost, infantry plus 3 maybe. 2) Cheaper infantry, and buffed units like infantry hinds rangers etc so ALL units have a place in the strategy 3) Remove force fire for cruisers or from the controls so the intended naval meta is forced = better?

The end of a cherished era? The beginning of a better era? Will it even change things at all? How is it likely to pan out? I will be sad to see some things go and not miss other things, I hope the same crowd I play online with stays together whatever happens. I look forward to a massive influx of new players, the removal of glitches, better graphics, bigger maps, and less things like right side advantage or bottom advantage. Another question is there any point making maps, and doing other cnc related work if all content is about to switch engine and so cannot be transferred directly?
