Great to see! Hopefully it brings in some more players

A10 is there any way to get this in a multiplayer map or a tick box?
AchromicWhite replied to chem's topic in C&C 1
Well if you attack with another couple of flyers, the A-10's will just roast everything under them. The SAM's basically do nothing, and the napalm alone can take out a con yard. If they don't require full tech, I'd see them being pretty nasty. I find it a bit strange that you'd look at this and think it's not really that powerful, but having MLRS was something that you thought would make GDI pretty much unbeatable for Nod. I guess there's no way to tell unless tested, but I'd think the opposite would be true. -

I think it'd effect it more than doing things like allowing MLRS at comm tech. The planes are really hard to stop and do a TONE of damage. The other super's are powerful enough... the airstrike is insane. -

Are you asking if GDI can get airstrikes in multiplayer? You know that's the most powerful super weapon in the game, right? -
How many teams do you usually use and what are they for?
AchromicWhite replied to chem's topic in C&C 1
I don't. Tanks 1, Grens 2 -

Yeah, I'm with ferret, though I rarely would get to 6. 1-2. tanks/troops, bikes/buggies 3. hummers 4. flyers (but sometimes one hummer on 3 and one on 4, near the start to scout around). 5. Probably a flyer split or a transport, maybe a special unit of some sort. Thing is, sometimes it's totally different. If I just have a mass of tanks, I might have tanks on 3 hotkeys. -
See Kilk, for that one. https://forums.cncnet.org/topic/2424-command-amp-conquer-dawn-of-tomorrow-teaser-thread/

Yeah, I actually agree with this. The game itself doesn't look bad, on it's own. Though I do expect pay to win, which I really dislike. If grinding can truly unlock all the features, it might still work, but would need a ladder to separate players and keep the game feeling somewhat fair, like what is done with Hearthstone. Is it C&C, though? No... and that's going to create a lot of hate. I think if EA were still making true C&C games, people wouldn't be so pissed, though. Because it'd be a spinoff game from their franchise. As it stands, the franchise is dead, so this game feels more like I'm just looking at C&C's corpse being walked around on stage. I'm being taunted about what I don't get to have, and the replacement is a mobile game... the sort that already exists in droves. Low quality, pay to win. Go make C&C. You think that seeing the bad reaction that C&C4 gave that they'd have learned not to mess too much with the formulae. But here we are.

What I find strange is that the game is full of nostalgia, so it seems aimed at older players... who will hate the game play. But they've said that it's RTS, re-imagined, for a new generation... who might like the game play, but wont know what any of the stuff in the game is (lore wise). So who the hell is the game for?

Well it looks pretty damn cool, that's for sure.

Yeah, it can be tricky to get it to look just right. Maybe if you even just darken the barrel a lot, and make the barrel lighter as it passes over the dark spot? -
It's not that it's possible for mobile, it's that it's clearly a dumbed down version of C&C... With NO story, NO bases, NO micro, BARELY any macro and lazy graphics that look cartoony. This is C&C removing half the game. The original C&C had 50x the content of this, and it was made over 20 years ago! EA is out of touch and out of mind, and this just confirms it. This game goes down like a cup of cold sick for me, and I suspect for many others. The only thing this game makes me want to do any different is to give money to the CnCNet team for keeping the classics alive.

Literally came to forum to post about EA's new C&C title... at least we have you, Kilk, to fill all our C&C needs xD It looks really cool. Simple design that borrows from a few other cnc vehicles. The turret is locked, yeah? You could try doing a little shading under the barrel to give it a little more 3D effect. It does look like quite a bright turret, maybe a little cartoon like. -
That looks SO dope! I'm actually really impressed. Nice choice on the scratched paintwork. I love when people take the sci-fi stuff and really make it look like it's a real vehicle. Can be hard to do.

Under what circumstances would you go 2 airfileds/weapons factories EARLY?
AchromicWhite replied to chem's topic in C&C 1
I feel like this would only work without receiving pressure. What MU does he use this in? -

Alternately, you could invent a new style for Nod. -

I think it's harder in Nod v Nod, because you don't have grens. I have managed a 3 ref opening before strip vs you on HJK6, but that included using the strip to block the entrance, and then a turret to follow up. With GDI, 4-5 (usually 5) refs before 2nd WF is pretty good. This is, once again, map dependant. If the map is wide open, that's harder to defend, if the map is a short rush distance, that's hard to defend, etc. Play your opponent's style and play the map. -
Yeah, exactly. Build them in response to what is happening. They build so fast, that if you have the cash, you can just be like; oh you didn't make AA, sweet, I made 5 apaches. Laters con yard. OR if they did make AA, oh well, I just make buggies and kill you anyway. Heck, if it's early game, you can pressure with flamers, too. Forcing grens/bazooka while you cash grab and set up.
-
As many as you think you can make, and not die. The Apaches build REALLY fast, so you can start making them when the push happens, so long as you have the $$$ At LEAST 3. There's no point if you're only going for 2. The purpose is to grab $$$ and then say "haha, you can't do anything about this". That way, if you out econ them, even if the apaches don't cost more than bazooka, you can still walk out with more money than they have.
-
I think the threat of apache switch can be more powerful than the apaches themselves, exactly for the reason you spoke of about bazooka. So you have to play an economic game. Not too hard to do due to apaches building fast. Means you can set up a big econ and then plant apaches to defend with. Between rocket troops and the occasional turret, GDI tanks can't push for a while (not without troop support). For this sort of reason, I think that apaches are the true top tier Nod build, that no one uses. (Similar to Orca openings in GDI, v GDI). If you want to see the meta, play GDI more often vs high tier players. I think that 2 apaches does kill troops faster. One on each control group and then push (if apaches were on 1 and 2) 1, click, 2, click, 1, click, 2, click. You could maybe do it with 3, as well. I HAVE used orca in teams of 2 before. 2 Orca snipe light tanks etc, and lower med tanks to like 1 hp, pretty much. So it's a good way to not over fire, AND once you select targets (in the case of orca only here) you can then leave them while you micro/macro other stuff.

Is high resolution really better than low res for effectivness?
AchromicWhite replied to chem's topic in C&C 1
C&C95 changes zoom only through changing the entire resolution of the running program... so the screen would blank while it did that. -

Honestly, there's not enough players to tell, but I think that higher makes it easier. Maybe micro is easier at low res, but personally, I find I can micro pretty damn well on a higher resolution. -
What are the optimal build orders for nod and GDI in your opinion?
AchromicWhite replied to chem's topic in C&C 1
Cn2 hits the nail on the head. The only thing I'd add is that there could be optimal ways to construct your strategy. Like, if I want to attack with a lot of troops at the start, but still want an economy, I'd look at something like: PP, Bar, Bar, Ref, Ref... or PP, Ref, Bar, Bar, Ref... Both could work, it's hard to say what's "optimal". The first is about getting the infantry on the field, the second looks to try and get some money flowing while the barracks is being set up, so that getting back into a normal game, after the attack, has been completed. So stuff like that.
