Fair enough, really... (but they did INTEND it to have jungle... at least for a while). Hey, just downloaded the C&C off of CnC-Comm, the sidebar isn't stretched with the hi-res, I know there was a patch for it, could this be included in the next installment. Also, where do I get that from... I can't find it, lol. -Liam
-
I think the grey houses would be better to be replaced with the kind on stilts, kinda like... If I had my own computer set up, I'd look at drawing those up myself, for you. -Liam
-
I'm still a bit confused by ice in the ocean by the jungle... isn't the jungle hot? BTW, both these sets of buildings look great amongst the jungle set Great work guys. -Liam
-
Bit confused, what the heck mod is this? The WF looks really strange, lol. Anyway, looks good, might want to take out the icebergs though xD -Liam
-
Yes, I had a feeling I'd seen the A-10 at some point... Pity about the others. Although, with some free drawing it might be possible to salvage them. -Liam

Infantry, have always seemed a bit underpowered at best for CnC games, and you're also right about aircraft. Many mods, on the other hand, have attacked this problem. CnC future is, unfortunately, quite bleak. The idea of making yet another sequel; trying to push what has already been pushed too far (how many times can Kane be defeated? How many times can someone travel back in time and create a world war?) and that's just the story issues, for example: seems EA had 2 ways to make tiberium games, make units that are recreations of old units/change the entire game, right down to unit production. You'd think they'd get some ideas from Star Craft; choose some units that are signature to a team, recreate the rest and get really creative. All this aside, the bigest problem is that EA is not willing to put enough money into CnC to make a good RTS, because they are afraid of another failure. Remember, EA didn't make CnC, they bought it. They thought they were buying something that was a sure fire hit. What they didn't understand is that an RTS is not like an FPS, where, if the game is out a little, no one notices too much and still has fun. In RTS, when the game is out a bit, the competitive values are lost... and the point of RTS is competition. Sadly, this means that their failure is what will stop them from putting enough money into the project to make it work. Does that mean that CnC is dead? Not in the modding communities The idea that is CnC is a good one, and people who know and love this will continue to come together and enjoy and create new mods/games to play... just probably not really anymore official releases (maybe Generals 2, not sure what happened to that either). -Liam

Player vs Computer harvesting in Tiberian Dawn

Yes... which is pretty funny seeing a truck just appear and then deploy on the spot... because the "unfold" of the MCV is just the build up anim for the con yard. (Obviously why you see the truck when you sell it also). -
I think the jagged edges of green at the water is the plants attached to the cliff but growing in the water. I guess you could be right about the green on the ford... but it looks so damn cool, lol. -Liam
-
Oh my God, that looks amazing! I love what you did with the ford, oh man. I want to play on this!!!! Now quick... put some dinosaurs on it! -Liam
-
Pretty boring compared to what's just been whipped up here. I love when people put some really deep thought into how to make it actually look like the jungle. That growth on the cliffs looks absolutely brilliant makes me want to get back to mapping. -Liam
-
lol... now if you can just make that oil explode when it's shot xD Nah, all good, looks sweet man, can't wait to see your mod finished -Liam
-
Good idea, guess it makes sense for it to be toxic to inf also... Looks good too. -Liam

Oh wow, this just keeps looking better and better. For the rivers, maybe try looking at some actual jungle rivers for inspiration. I can understand that to be tricky... in saying that, if nothing ends up looking that good, just having regular rivers from temperate may not look that bad at all. Either way, this is looking absolutely great -Liam

Nyer has other forums? Anyway, just wanted to say, Jungle terrain is coming... you should totally add that -Liam

Well, I think you pretty much put everything back in that was cut... music, gren throw sounds etc. But not sure you'd want to change any more than that purely for an enhancements patch. You have, however, opened the way for some great mods to be made. I know Kilk is working on one. There was an attempt at making an unofficial expansion for it ages back, called TDX. Sadly, it seems to have lost it's fire and crashed. I'd been thinking of making a mod for it, mostly just rebalance and maybe add some new units also... not quite sure what though. At the moment I've been having a break from modding though, and still have 2 other mods I'd rather be working at when I get my computer set up again anyway, so that's pretty far off, and maybe never going to happen, as a result of it being so far off (but we'll see). In the meantime though, TD has become quite popular online, and these great patches you've made, combine with the CnCNet team have rekindled the game. So it's not some big loss... and hey, I see someone's making a nice jungle theater for both TD and RA... maybe it could be added in as a selectable theater for people making maps (haha, the one thing that we WERE wondering if WW ever actually made). Either way, TD is doing great, considering how old it now is. So kudos on that Nyer. Cheers keep up the good work. Oh, I also really like the building on the top left of the top picture on that link you posted Nyer... any chance of seeing it return? That beta rep pad is cool too... maybe I should draw up a new one for my CR mod... as it just used the boring RA one at the moment. -Liam
-
This would probably look great for the "fun park" (dino) missions xD -Liam
-
Looks like it just gives it a teal feel... or am I missing something? -Liam
-
Really? I think it looks really nice and jungle like. Different grass gives a big feel of the whole area being different, rather than just different trees etc. Little heads up: too many trees on a map will make the game run slow. Maybe look at making many of the plants from previously rock tile etc and make them look like plants, that way you can still have lots of foliage without choking up game speed -Liam
-
You could try a new type of sniper also... slightly longer range than regular troops, good damage against inf (not instant kill), crap against everything else. Mammoth tanks are good against A-10s? considering that they're almost mission exclusive and that A-10s just fly strait in and out, mammoths vs A-10s doesn't come up much... IDK if I've EVER seen it actually... (Probably have, but not noted in my memory... I have played a LOT of C&C) -Liam
-
Interesting, you're right, that IS an oil tanker. If I'd known that, I might have tried to base my tanker off of it... Oh well, Kilk has now made a better one anyway -Liam
-
Totally sweet looking man -Liam
-
Mortar troops. Long range artillery... although, they might come out a bit like grens. -Liam
-
Were you looking at more realistic or fictional units? -Liam

Just asking opinion on something simple
AchromicWhite replied to Kilkakon's topic in Modding Discussion
Thing is, it's not just if there's NEW inf in it that would change it. Are there many other vehicles which are very effective against troops etc. There's not really any other way other than game testing to really know. Even then, if your testers don't like certain tactics, it can leave certain areas of your game uncharted. In saying that, if you're not really looking at multiplay, it maybe doesn't matter much, if at all. -Liam -
Player vs Computer harvesting in Tiberian Dawn
AchromicWhite replied to peterthepigeon's topic in The Tech Center
I was actually well aware of this... actually, I thought that the computer just got everything auto filled if it got a harvester back... which is why i don't bother to shoot the harvesters unless I can kill them all... even then, it's easier to just blow up their base. Like, I thought it didn't even have a number associated with the number of bails for the comp harvester... just 100% auto fill all silos. Which, on some levels is HEAPS of money. even if you kill the harvesters, they can just build loads more, and heaps of other units. Not to mention, if they still have con yard, they can basically rebuild their whole base instantly, which, I've also seen them do. This means if you don't just blow up the con yard and then factories, it's very hard to win the final missions. -Liam
