You can do that with TSpatch: https://forums.cncnet.org/topic/2606-tiberian-sun-patches-fix-for-the-windows-8-10-menu-problems-and-more/ It will slow your scroll down, the confg tool in TSpatch wasn't updated with the new TS-DDraw yet but you can get it here already http://downloads.cncnet.org/addons/ts-config.7z

Yes, you can minimize the game with ts-ddraw and there are no issues So if I understood this correctly, for you friend on windows 7 it doesn't work well, the game runs slow? (it lags?)

Make sure you disable all compat modes for c&c95.exe and then cnc-ddraw should work fine. If it still doesn't work, rename the file to c&c95_123.exe and make a new shortcut on your desktop.

I added a ddraw.zip to the first post for you

You sure he really had the GDI version and the client didn't overwrite it?

I tried this also on windows 10, worked for me. Do you have any folder inside of the VirtualStore folder at all? %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore
-
I guess the problem is because the game tried to write the file to its own directory but failed, then windows created a new hidden file that is now being used Open your windows explorer and paste the following into the path textbox on top: %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore In there you should find somewhere your fake ra2 folder, Maybe here: %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games If there is a RA2.INI inside of that folder, delete it. Now start your game again, it should now use the real RA2.INI that you modified.
-
You can configure it in RA2.INI inside of your game folder. You can replace the original file in your game folder with this template and then edit it with notepad: http://downloads.cncnet.org/Games/RedAlert2/RA2.INI There is also another way where you can type "hires" in the main menu to unlock all resolutions, but i'm not sure if that works with RA2 or YR only
-
Just tried it, for me every menu opens instantly and every button also reacts instantly in skirmish. I'm on win 10 using 1.1.2.0 GDI

Didn't look into the menus yet, does it actually happen in skirmish too? I guess it should happen, except it's a bug not related to the rendering. All old versions of TS-DDraw had a bug with the menus that caused a leak, the more time you were spending in the menus the higher the chance for a failure. Game could become slow or glitch/close 1.1.2.0 doesn't have this bug anymore

Both crashes are related to TeamTypes

I just checked, there is a file named "ddraw_nohw.dll" with 40kb of size like yours, it's not ts-ddraw, no idea what it is. I guess Rampastring knows it No worries about that, both are tested on Wine, there is very little difference in performance. OpenGL version is not as highly compatible as the GDI one, so there is not too much use for it

Maybe you can ask at the cnc-online forums https://cnc-online.net/en/ We don't have support for CnC3 here so there are not too many users with the needed expertise around

If you just want to chat then use this here: https://webchat.gamesurge.net/?randomnick=1&channels=cncnet-yr&prompt=1&uio=OT10cnVlJjEwPXRydWUmMTE9MjU2JjEyPXRydWU78 Or use androirc, here is a tutorial for it: http://www.ra1guides.com/2016/03/get-cncnet-5-lobby-on-your-phone.html Make sure you use channel "#cncnet-yr" and NOT "#cncnet" like in this tutorial
-
Are you talking about the one you linked here? https://forums.cncnet.org/topic/8245-how-to-make-ra2-yr-maps-final-alert-2-tutorial/ This is not TS-DDraw, I have no idea what wrapper it is either Oh, didn't know about this one yet, will do some tests later. thanks Edit: You tested OpenGL or GDI? GDI is a lot beter, OpenGL will be dropped soon I think (not 100% sure yet) Also, I'm not sure if you can just put that in your folder, the YR client may remove the file (or replace with the older one), please double check if the file is still the same after the game

Updated to 1.1.2.0 - Improved scaling performance - Fixed color issues on main menu (OpenGL + RA2 / YR) - Cursor is now locked in windowed mode and can be unlocked by opening the menu or pressing [Ctrl]+[Tab] or [RCtrl]+[RAlt] - Window can now be closed by pressing the X button or via taskbar menu - Fix for invisilbe menus on focus loss or window move - Fix for invisible menu on Load/Save/Delete (Tiberian Sun) - Fixed a GDI handle leak - Mouse will now be centered to the window on maxmize - Window is now centered to the screen in windowed mode - Fix for invisible menus on [Alt]+[Tab] (RA2 / YR) - Few other random fixes... This could be the last release of the OpenGL version, not sure how much longer I want to keep it alive. The GDI version is a lot better.

thanks for testing! Good to hear you finally got the problem solved, I had no idea what it was about, you were the first one to report something like this. I noticed the bug with the save/load menu too, but it happens with the other renderers too. I guess the game itself needs to get patched to fix that one. Updated to 1.1.1.0: dkeeton made a faster scaling (e.g. for the cutscenes)

Looking for testers for a new release of TS-DDraw. Download: https://github.com/CnCNet/ts-ddraw/releases Should work for Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. For all those who don't know TS-DDraw, this is what it can do: Working windowed mode without having to change windows to 16bit Makes the game running smooth on Windows XP / 7 / 8 / 10 and wine (Need testers for Vista!) Can fix black screens, invisible menus and other issues ddraw.zip

Download the updated config programs, extract into your game folder and replace existing. Then open the config program and choose DDrawCompat from the list
-
Get the latest config tools for each game and try to use DDrawCompat first, if it works, stick to it. If not, try the other ones C&C1 : http://downloads.cncnet.org/addons/td-config.7z Red Alert: http://downloads.cncnet.org/addons/ra-config.7z Tiberian Sun: http://downloads.cncnet.org/addons/ts-config.7z Note: the Tiberian Sun one is new and was not released yet, so it might have some bugs
-
time-out means something is blocking it, check all the windows security settings
-
Can you give us more info about the error? What's the full error message?

The performance can be better (you could notice that the scroll speed is faster for example), but you would only notice that on a old PC though. The differences in visuals in these videos are usually caused by the recording software/codec. My older videos also look a lot different since I used a different recorder and Xvid codec back then. Here are some videos I just made on Windows 10 using GDI/OpenGL/DDrawCompat: http://cnc.cloudns.pro/Test/ All look pretty much the same, except the 2 where I enabled stretching. With GDI stretching you can get the image very sharp and with OpenGL+linear stretching it gets blurry. I enabled the FPS counter in the videos so you can see how much impact each setting has on the game performance. I don't know what recorder/settings lauta used in these old videos you linked, but in the latest videos he is using OBS recorder with GDI+Stretching. Old videos are probably GDI too, but no stretching. I guess he didn't use OBS back then since the quality is a lot worse in both of them. One of the two videos was upscaled to 1280x720, which was probably done with yet another tool after the video was recorded already (Could explain the difference between the two vids). The one that wasn't upscaled is very bright, maybe the tool he used thought it might be a good idea to tweak settings and make it darker.
