  1. Yeah, hence my "temporary solution" statement. But the current state of the service theoretically supports an account system and each time you launch CnCNet 5, you get a name/password dialogue box, which is currently useless because it does nothing.
  2. Let me just take a moment to laugh at the face of anyone who thought that running CnCNet without an account system was not to be a temporary solution.
  3. Symantec = paranoid. Period. The file is safe.
  4. RA2 isn't supported yet (although they've announced it for this summer and the clock is ticking...). The only way you can (sort of) play RA2 on CnCNet is to get the YR client and tick the RA2 mode option. And no, you can't access the game from the Internet button ingame. You need a client that you can download from the CnCNet website that already launches you into the game when you set it up.
  5. What are you doing with AVG installed? Get something actually worthwhile like Malwarebytes
  6. Assholes and whiny bitches... assholes and whiny bitches everywhere.
  7. This summer: http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?topic=4060.0 Which should be soon.
  8. gamemdx64 is a special modification of the YR exe distributed with the TFD 1.03 patch: http://www.cncnz.com/hosted-projects/command-patch/the-first-decade-unofficial-patch/ And yes, kid, I do know RA2's .exe is called game.exe, perhaps I'd have known that after 14 years of playing RA2 and answering a bajillon support threads in the C&C community... -.-"
  9. Whatever you changed in the new patcher, Funky, (almost?) completely removed lag! Awesome!
  10. So, you've played RA1 since 1991? Impressive.
  11. I recommend putting different lists for people who use and who don't use expansions. Different criteria for different circumstances.
  12. I decided to completely reinstall RA2 and YR as someone else on the TA forums did and fixed the game, but I've found another problem. I'm using the old game CDs and SETUP.exe refuses to run no matter what compatibility mode I choose, even with 16-bit colour mode. It, however, worked on Windows 7 64-bit somehow. I hope this doesn't mean I'll have to install it from my TFD disc and tell everyone who also has the 2000/2001 CDs to get TFD or TUC?
  13. I didn't have wsock32.dll to begin with. Just left the process standing for several minutes, it does nothing.
  14. Since the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I haven't been able to run RA1. I had an earlier version of PortableRA and have just now updated it to the latest possible version from Funky's website, but still no dice. I've also applied RedSigma's trick with aqrit.cfg and switched between cnc-ddraw and ddwrapper, nothing doing. Strangely, TD runs like a charm. Anyone else had this?
  15. This seems to work for YR, but not RA2 for some reason - mine doesn't even want to run! I'm not sure if I had gamemdx64 installed before, which would enable the game to run...
  16. Crucial info - did you or did you not try this fix? http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?topic=3438.0
  17. Can this help? http://www.stuffhost.de/files/cnc/
  18. Try right-clicking on RA2/YR .exe files (or shortcuts), go to Properties, then the Compatibility tab. Check the Reduced colour mode option and set it to 16-bit (65536) colour.
  19. Unless this old link doesn't work, then it might be gone, at least from a browser's perspective. https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=333225329&mt=8 The Nokia Ovi version is completely gone, obviously.
  20. If smurfs would be attached to a single main account like it's the case in post-YR games, it would both make things easier for legit players AND make it easier to hunt down cheaters.
  21. Very true. Unless you can get a number of dedicated fair play specialists, don't even bother adding new features to this. It's what comes with the job of developing an online service. Too bad CnCNet's supported games don't have replay systems, else it would be very easy to see what the suspected player was doing when you enter his exact viewpoint with fog of war and shroud etc. Though, when you see Tiberian Fiends in TS coming right at you, you screenshot that and report the SoB as soon as you can and watch the fireworks. XWIS' screenshot tool is a good idea of bypassing the absence of replays.
  22. It still significantly slows down anyone seriously determined to wreck a private server thingy. Not all are. IP bans can be placed on 1-3 month intervals, though. Don't virtual machines use your same IP? Yes, but I don't play with friends (they don't play C&C anyway). I play with whoever stumbles in. Constantly playing with the same people gets boring and is not a true test of skill. Mr. Closed-Off. Not quite comparable. It's a hyped FPS where you have a 99,999999999999999% likeliness of playing with stupid kids who bitch, whine, cheat and wallhack. You kinda know to expect that Used to, but EA didn't moderate the now-defunct GameSpy servers, at least not in its final years. GameReplays did. Now it's all handled here (requires Revora forum account to play and fair play accusations are again done on GameReplays) and all trespasses are dealt with accordingly and as hastily as possible.
  23. Subscription isn't a viable solution. Having concrete user accounts is (I take it that used to be an idea all along?) You have an account - if you're caught cheating, your account, IP and machine get banned. Easy as that. Currently, it's impossible to avoid them as anyone and everyone can use any username they wish, including that of people who are offline at that moment. Bullshit. You've never played post-Zero Hour games - nobody on the ladder cheats. If they do cheat or are involved in point-pushing, they're sanctioned. It's still a competitive and relatively healthy environment for play.
