See, it's far easier to make a proper RA2 support system than fiddle with this stuff. It may also help open door to MO.

Restore film star names in RY Hollywood mission?
Plokite_Wolf replied to TaxOwlbear's topic in Red Alert 2
Disable Origin functionality for all TUC games and get the fixed TUC launchers. http://bibber.eu/downloads/cnc-ultimate-collection-launchers/ Install LaunchBase. http://marshall.strategy-x.com/LaunchBase/index.php Download the UMP and import it in LaunchBase. Launch it from there. http://marshall.strategy-x.com/ump/index.php Reinstall the game. They're not supposed to die. -
You're thinking about the RA2 Yuri Prime, not RA2 Yuri/YR Yuri Clone.

"BlackHawk Transport" stands in the Name= tag under [sHAD] in rules.ini and rulesmd.ini. The Nighthawk name was given in mid/late beta stages, and only in the cameos and strings. Why would you base your arguments on what Westwood Pacific (already known for a myriad of inconsistencies, as you mentioned) didn't say? Especially since they got lost in their own assets - remember Amphibious Transports and the fact that the Allied MCV concept actually has Soviet insignia? Remember the old RA2 official website where Hornets of the Aircraft Carrier were named Intruders, when Intruders were actually alpha/beta Harriers (which aren't even the McDonnell Douglas AV-8 Harriers in the voxels, but the Grumman A-6 Intruders!). Setting the build limit in YR for Tanya made actual sense because she was improved and was not a carbon copy of a SEAL with the Battle Lab prerequisite. A higher price and ability to C4 tanks, combined with the fact that Boris and Yuri Prime also had a build limit, justified it more than enough. "Psi-Corps Trooper" is an actual string used in Soviet missions 3, 9 and 11 that replaced the one used by the [YURI] unit in the mission maps' ini scripts and has an unused icon (psiticon.shp/psituico.shp, in the style of final RA2 cameos, you yourself had a no-text version of it in PreRA2). It's restored back to Yuri in Soviet mission 12 (or rather, the ini script changes weren't applied). Check the mission maps themselves from maps02.mix if you don't believe me. Now, if SEALs were put in place of Tanya in RA2 and had a Battle Lab prerequisite, and Westwood Pacific stuck to the Psi-Corps Trooper name, we could talk logic. But since that didn't happen, you can't call a stupid design decision a bug.
-
Whoa whoa whoa, noticed you wrote this. That was a deliberate Westwood decision, proven by ai.ini, which specifically allows the AI to build taskforces, one of which with two Tanyas. [0CE3754C-G] Name=2 Tanya, 3 Gi, 1 Blackhawk 0=2,TANY 1=3,E1 2=1,SHAD Group=-1 It also goes well with the fact that you can make more than one Yuri (which they were too lost to name Psi-Corps Trooper in multiplayer).

And what good would that do. It's pretty much pointless until and IF EVER we get World Domination mode working. A lot of behind the scenes hacks were rewritten to proper code and a lot of bug fixes were made in YR. All RA2 would give is a whole load of bugs really. Apparently, some people like RA2 more than YR. Native support is always better than going around the issue, it differs sloppy service from a good one. Since CnCNet has stepped into XWIS' territory, they can at least do that right. Besides, if I recall correctly, RA2 mode was just a temporary solution until RA2 was properly supported.

Or you could make proper RA2 support.

Original discs for RA2 and I am not able to get them to work (Win10pro 64bit)

That's not a factor here. -

Put a screenshot of your RA2 directory. -

You didn't read the instructions on the XWIS pages for Windows 8/10 fixes. What you need to do is set compatibility mode for Windows 7 (or XP SP3), set 16-bit colour mode and disable DPI scaling for the executables of RA2 and YR. Also, did you run the Double Click Me.bat file when you applied those fixes? -
Another one of the petition kiddies... 1) Petitions won't work. Period. 2) C&C is good without a remake (kudos to Nyerguds for that) 3) EA doesn't know what C&C actually is.

Plokite_Wolf replied to SirDanBaker's question in Support
In short, yes. Since you have the discs themselves, the procedure I linked you to explains how to have a fully functional RA2/YR experience. maps##.mix and movies##.mix hold singleplayer scenarios and cutscenes respectively. Place those to the folder you install RA2/YR to and you'll play all the missions you want. I had a successful RA2 playthrough with this installation, both campaigns without issue. Didn't have time for YR, but it should work too. -
For Windows Vista/7/8.x, you LITERALLY only have to remove ONE update and then hide it when it tries to install again. If that isn't easy... @tyayedouard - try manually going to Origin's site and searching for TUC. It has to be there, it's just that the link redirects for different localized sites are... special.

The installer executable won't work for RA2 even when you re-enable SafeDisc (but TS and YR ones do, curiously). Here's how to install the game using a different route: http://forums.cncnz.com/topic/19497-original-ra2yr-cds-vs-windows-10/?p=225594 -
Updates that are easily removable in anything that isn't Windows 10. And Windows 10 has a separate solution. No reason to write them off...
-
Now yes, but if all those who want a YR ladder start playing there, the situation will change. Think.
-
XWIS has YR ladders. If you're that pumped to play competitively, play there. http://xwis.net/yr/

cant install Ra2/yu on pc, using installer from cncnet
Plokite_Wolf replied to emilf's topic in Red Alert 2
Realistically, the project should have stopped there. What was once a magnificent project is now a terribly managed and even worse advertised feature creep'd turd. -

The CnCNet online play service is free. Red Alert 2 isn't. People constantly believe the games are free because of *someone's* sick fetish for the word "free". -
Both you and your friend missed the compatibility settings that are displayed on the XWIS links. Namely: Windows 7 compatibility mode (or XP SP3), 16-bit colour, disabled DPI scaling, running as administrator.

Look at the solution closer to the bottom of the thread, which I linked to, not the one on the top.
-
Are you incapable or just too lazy to read 10 steps that just involve a few file moves? You can try to use their Redeem Code function, but I doubt it'll lead to anywhere.
-
A full bypass of the issue... http://forums.cncnz.com/topic/19497-original-ra2yr-cds-vs-windows-10/?p=225594 Note: for some reason, the YR multiplayer client from XWIS doesn't have the borderless windowed mode RA2 was given and it doesn't come with Yuri taunts in multiplayer. The latter can be found in Game#.cab files in the YR disc - open that with WinRAR.
-
That probably has to do with the fact that CnCNet creates a total mess in the game directory. You'll see that it is full of otherwise compiled files like rules(md).ini and art(md).ini which are crucial for modding. It was a very lazy way of preventing cheaters from modifying the game. IIRC, the XCC Mod Launcher extracts all the files it holds temporarily once you launch the mod, and deletes them when YR is closed (saw that with my own eyes in earlier versions of MO). Solution - remove all files that may conflict with your mod. Also, disable Origin for RA2 and YR. Installing these might help: http://bibber.eu/downloads/cnc-ultimate-collection-launchers/
