Cant get game to work, purple small resolution
Nyerguds replied to francisbakn's question in Support
Seems like it's running in windowed mode without window border. Windowed mode requires you to set your desktop (or in win10, the game's compatibility settings) to 16-bit colours. -
Identical nicks don't work on the system we use. He probably replaced the L in the name by a capital i to pull this off.
-
I never used windowed mode. Fullscreen solves the deselecting-the-window problems. Christo only used it because it refused to record in fullscreen.
-
doubt it'll be space concerns, given those bare files on the CD. I mean, they're right here, and never used.

This topic has been moved to Tiberian Sun / Firestorm. [iurl]https://forums.cncnet.org/index.php?topic=5926.0[/iurl]

Wrong board. Moved. And yes, of course you can. Go to https://cncnet.org/tiberian-sun, click "download & play", and select "single player campaign".

Drawing the Vortex - How the Chronal Vortex effect is generated.
Nyerguds replied to Blade's topic in The Tech Center
It was definitely not a bugged version of the Win95 one. It was just completely different. That kind of effect can't be achieved by accident. I'll see if I can reproduce it on a completely unpatched DOSBox CD install... -
They hacked the game to make it bow to their will Uh, C&C maps are just text files. Really not hard at all.
-
Christo161 already did one of those, if you're interested https://www.youtube.com/user/Christo161/playlists Really? It's not that hard, from what I remember. You need N-Rage v2 though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmYrGZMeO6k&t=25

Given the sad fact most of the interest in C&C1 seems to come from me patching it, It's probably a bit of a two-way street... undoubtedly, "demand", as you put it, will rise again if I continue patching. But, not really feeling like it these days.

Didn't that one look like you were holding a magnet against your TV? -
Just wondering... wouldn't it be useful to check exactly which of these compressions and things is and isn't used in the C&C WSAs, to see what stuff you can and can't use when replacing them?

As I explained, that's because terrain tiles have a "theater ownership" value set. It makes sure maps containing terrain objects from wrong theaters can't actually spawn those on the map, since they'd show up as invisible objects, and would crash the minimap's graphics resize function. This is, at the moment, still 100% hardcoded in the exe file, in the big list of terrain objects. Just like units and structures have a list of owners, terrain tiles have a list of theaters.

Hey, on a related note... has anyone ever found the old DOS RA vortex? It was a different effect; a big lens rolling over the screen. -

CnC Red Alert : MODDING technical question #2
Nyerguds replied to themug's topic in Modding Discussion
just call it GNRLICON.SHP You don't need to set a prerequisite to set something buildable, btw. Just the techlevel is needed. -
All right... wtf is "Scroll Coasting"?
-
None of these "unofficial expansions" were really styled as such in their integration with the game. They're really just CDs dumped full of maps, missions and tools scraped off the internet, and nothing more. As cd.textfiles.com sums it up: And what do you think Chimas has been doing, hm?
-
Not quite true. Only Command & Conquer 1, Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun are freeware. Red Alert 2, and all those beyond, are not. Do realize all of the C&C Games can be considered "old". Even C&C3 is nine years old by now, y'know

yeeeah... buildings that come with a free unit (refinery, helipad) basically build at the speed of a building with the price of the added unit subtracted. For the $1500 helipad with its $1200 helicopter, that means it builds at the speed of a $300 building; like, say, a barracks, or power plant. And the more buildings of one production type you have, the faster you can build units with it, meaning that after about 4 helipads it becomes really fast to build actual extra helicopters on them too. So that's double speed bonus on building helis. That's peculiar. Aren't you using cnc-ddraw? That allows you to switch to different renderers, and even has the built-in [ctrl]+[s] as "dump screenshot into game folder" shortcut.

Seriously. I just plain don't see this issue. Don't alt-tab out. Play your game, or don't. How hard is that?
