When it comes legally purchased classic video games, I think GOG is the best. But, not to be cheap or anything, abandonware websites and torrents are unfortunately the much better option. If I didn't already have the massive collection of classic video games that I have (DOS, arcade/console ROMs, early Windows titles, Game&Watch...), I'd be glad to pay a lot of money for them. But that said, I have purchased a lot of video games throughout the years and continue to when I want to support a game series or developer.

Using XWIS' version of Yuri's Revenge, on speed 5 (Skirmish): Video of building a Rhino Video of building a Grizzly Results... (running frame by frame using Media Player Classic) Rhino build time: Frames 14013 to 14716 (from the frame when the build icon turns grey, to the frame when the build icon says 'Ready', inclusive) =704 frames (@60 frames per second) =11.73333333333333... seconds Grizzly build time: Frames 17025 to 17512 (from the frame when the build icon turns grey, to the frame when the build icon says 'Ready', inclusive) =488 frames (@60 frames per second) =8.133333333333333... seconds A difference of 3.6 seconds. (NOTE: I set the recorder, Bandicam, to record at 60fps, but there must have been frame-drops because it only recorded at 52fps. Disregard the YouTube stats because the important values are the ones reported by the in-game debug stats.)

I didn't test it online, only in skirmish, and I didn't get any errors. When does the error actually occur? On a side note, I'm not sure if this is related, but every time I load up a skirmish game (mod map or not) with the cncnet version, my game crashes. But when I copy that same save file to any other version of YR it loads up just fine. Pretty clever idea.

I actually did that (double click) but I didn't notice the 'Direction' option. I think because right after I had a look at colors for the different 'Owners', I said fuck this, and closed it

I don't know where Pythagoras Vortex^ got his images from, but I got all mine from good 'ol google, including my isometric grid. It looks like he did it properly though and used actual images from the mix files, where as mine were all cut and paste, some not even cut properly . I was going to use FA2's framework mode, but I couldn't get the tanks to face a specific direction, plus they didn't look like how they normally do in-game.

Yuris Revenge RA2 & YR Maps - A ginormous collection of maps!
fir3w0rx replied to fir3w0rx's topic in RA2/YR Maps
Oh nice , thanks for letting me know. Hopefully zzattack (Frank Razenberg) adds these features to his gui in his next update, instead of us having to manually type them in... grrrr. -

Add -o"%m" to for %m in (*.mpr,*.map,*.yrm) do cncmaps.renderer -i"%m" -j -s So instead of that^, it's now... for %m in (*.mpr,*.map,*.yrm) do cncmaps.renderer -i"%m" -j -s -o"%m" I tried it just now but only with a few files so I'm not 100% sure. Let me know how you go . -
Yuris Revenge RA2 & YR Maps - A ginormous collection of maps!
fir3w0rx replied to fir3w0rx's topic in RA2/YR Maps
No problem. The renderer that came with the YR Client works the exact same way as well. -
Close but way off. (The same goes for the sentry gun) Same principle as with the tier one turrets. In short, in a tank battle where you are Sovs and your enemy is Allieds, try to position your tanks directly above, below, left or right of the grizzlies, NOT at an angle. Obviously you won't be able to do this all the time, but if you do this with every chance you get, you'll start winning more tank battles. Tell no one of what has transpired here today. Now go be a pro!
-
Pssst... do you want to know the best kept secret in the history of RA2/YR multiplayer about rhinos vs grizzlies that only the super-dooper pros know? (I'm not kidding either, and this would change everyone's playing style with these two units, if you didn't know it already)

Yuris Revenge RA2 & YR Maps - A ginormous collection of maps!

I just re-read my post above but I can't really see how I can make it much clearer . You did click "Reveal hidden contents" in my post didn't you? If you did, how far do you get: Opening Command Prompt (cmd) Adding RA2/YR Map Renderer to the PATH variable Changing Directory (cd) in cmd Copy-pasting into cmd? -
I don't know how to enable it with CnCNet's version of the RA2/YR, but with other versions you just right-click RA2/YR's shortcut icon -> Properties -> add -mpdebug to Target. Example: Target: "c:\games\ra2\ra2.exe " -mpdebug You then open up the keyboard settings (in-game) and under Category there will be a new section called Debug.

Lag in the game during explosions and the like (Yuri Revenge)
fir3w0rx replied to Apple Island's question in Support
In the CnCNet YR Client there are display options (Options -> Display tab). Have you tried experimenting with these settings yet, particularly "Renderer" and "Back Buffer in Video Memory"? -
I think experiments relating to time/speed are best done using RA2/YR's built-in Multiplayer debug info which shows exactly how many frames have gone by.

Yeah I'm just kiddin, it's ok. It's good for watching ASCII Star Wars

@Chrono Vortex What is this... 1981?

Lag in the game during explosions and the like (Yuri Revenge)
fir3w0rx replied to Apple Island's question in Support
You're probably right I guess, because Grant often suggests (in the support section) to download .NET Framework 4, which is still available for Win XP, and it's really just the client that gets updated, not the game itself afaik. So yeah, that makes sense. -
Lag in the game during explosions and the like (Yuri Revenge)
fir3w0rx replied to Apple Island's question in Support
The only other possible cause of your lag that i can think of is Windows XP, which has not been updated in years. But that said, I don't think it's worth changing your OS just for one game. -
3 standard oil derricks = 1 War/Chrono miner (roughly)
-
It's been removed? But mine's still there?? I guess maybe if you do a clean install then it will no longer exist. Your instructions in your first post are still relevant for the stand-alone version though.

If you want to create previews for the forums, you can use the RA2+TS Map Renderer, which can be found here. But I'm not sure if you can still use it for the CnCNet YR Client.

Yuris Revenge RA2 & YR Maps - A ginormous collection of maps!
fir3w0rx replied to fir3w0rx's topic in RA2/YR Maps
Well... for those still interested, I figured out a way... (for Win 7, but it should be similar for Win 8 and 10) Open up Command Prompt (in admin mode to avoid problems): Add RA2 & TS Map Renderer's folder to PATH: Now go to your RA2/YR maps folder that you want to convert: Finally, type (or copy/paste): for %m in (*.mpr,*.map,*.yrm) do cncmaps.renderer -i"%m" -j -s [ENTER] This will convert all the maps in the folder that you chose into jpegs, with tiled starting positions. To see other options, type: cncmaps.renderer /help -
Lag in the game during explosions and the like (Yuri Revenge)
fir3w0rx replied to Apple Island's question in Support
Ah, well if that is where he got it from, at the bottom of the page is says "2012" (which is pretty old) so it could be conflicting with the CnCNet YR client.
