  1. Oh ok. So with the exception of YR, the games use a mixture of both relay and p2p connections, and in the same match if need be? Cool.
  2. I don't understand, you mean there's nothing on the left window pane that says "...infantry, vehicles, aircraft, building..." ?
  3. For example, in a 1v1, when one player gives a command to one of it's tanks to MOVE, is that MOVE command transmitted to the server first, then from the server to the other player? Or is that MOVE command transmitted directly to the other player? Or does it go to both the server and the other player at the same time? Or something totally different. I'm just curious.
  4. This is only possible with a cheat program that allows the observer (or anyone else using the cheat) to be able to control everyone's units, as well as force them to surrender if they are breaking the host's rules. But it only works on the other servers.
  5. If you want to play only RA2, you do not need YR. You can play online at xwis.net. But if you want the added features which are only available on this server (CnCnet), you will need both YR and RA2.
  6. Hi, unfortunately only the older C&C games (Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 1) are free to download. C&C - The Ultimate Collection, which includes all the classics as well as RA2/YR, can be purchased from Origin. What you were downloading was the YR client, which allows you to play online at this server. <snip>
  7. For any, or all these classic C&C games, wouldn't it be cool to have zebra or tiger stripes on your tanks? Or desert/snow camo? I'm no modder, but my guess is that each 'skin' would have to be a separate voxel. But is it possible to have multiple voxels for ONE unit? If possible, this would be a pretty neat unlockable item. Players would have to play, say... 100 games to unlock the jungle camo skin, 200 games to unlock the 'Midnight' skin, and so on. And maybe 1000 games to have your clan's logo on the roof of your construction yard. It would have to somehow be unlocked for players who have reached the requirements, but still locked for everyone else.
  8. @Nyerguds I've read your reply (directly above this one) about 899 frikn times and I still don't get it . And worst, it actually created more questions for me, which I'm not going to bother asking because I'm still stuck on my first question . What I do understand though (or think I do) is that Westwood only allowed for 100 mission/campaign numbers (0-99) which have possible conflicts, but only with the non-existing 'Civilian' side, so it does not matter. the game has problems differentiating between mission names that are only 2 letters different from each other. For instance:: SCG199EA SCG299EB SCG399EC could be seen (from the games point of view) as the same mission because they only have 2 letters that are different from each other? Is that right? you modified the game to be able to read an additional 900 numbers/missions (100-999) to resolve this issue. But that's cool, I've made my peace with it. I've come to the conclusion that these mission files are much like my penis - I don't really need to know it's inner workings, I only need to know where to put it in: 0-99 => for mini-campaigns 100-899 => for single missions 900-999 => also for mini-campaigns Is this correct?
  9. "One warfactory with money is a lot better than a thousand warfactories with no money" - "The Art of War... factories", by Sun Tzu. But in saying that, you did hold off 2 enemies for a while, which is a pretty difficult thing to do, so well done. It reminded me of the Battle of the Alamo (the real event, not the RA2 map), and your army was the Texans It's usually not a good idea to camp in a small spot with very little ore while your enemies are mining the other 90% of the map, but sometimes you have no choice but to just defend yourself while waiting for the inevitable, then go out with guns blazing! Nice vid, maybe upload a 1v3 next time!
  10. What are boomer 'calling cards' and what does 'fearless' do (Tanya and Tesla Troopers)? +1
  11. Not that it really matters, but out of curiosity; is it 899 or 999? And I'm sure the Westwood programmers back in the 90's had a good reason, but what a weird numbering system.
  12. I've downloaded mods and other files from there years ago and they were fine. But just to be safe, make sure your anti-virus is updated before doing anythere. If you're into RA1 mods, you might be interested in helping out with a compilation that's currently being put together: https://forums.cncnet.org/topic/6804-beta-testing-for-mega-compilation/
  13. Wow, the pillbox camo is so good that even the game can't see it.

    tank spaming

From your above example in your first post, I highly doubt they had the same eco. The same amount of wf and miners yes, but not eco, unless one of them forgot to build tanks for a few seconds, or made too many unnecessary things. But anyway, here's an excerpt from the top secret RA2/YR Bible (pro section): In the Beginning The following are relevant for No Crates, $10,000 settings. Press 'n-d-n-d-n-d...' repeatedly just as the match is starting. This will maximize your mcv deploy speed. Press 'q + left-click q + left-click q + left-click...' repeatedly (not just once or twice) just before your building is ready to be placed, don't wait for it to be completed. Making 3 dogs instead of 4 for scouting makes a noticeable difference in cash during the first couple of minutes, especially on maps with no starting gems or oil derricks. You can sometimes get away with even just 2 dogs when on small maps like Urban Rush. Don't make any GIs/conscripts just yet, unless you really must garrison structures, like on The Alamo or City Under Siege. As much as possible, when placing down your newly created refinery, try to make it 'face' the minerals (ore/gems). This will minimize your miners from doing too many unnecessary u-turns which slow them down. Right after you have placed your second refinery, manually return your miner. Otherwise your cash will soon hit zero. After placing down a refinery, the miner that comes with it comes out at the back of it. If the refinery is facing the minerals, quickly chrono-shift your chrono-miner back into the refinery so it gets to the minerals quicker. The same goes for miners out of the warfactory. Ramps slow down your miners. Try and place your refinery on the same level as the minerals. Make sure that your miners are harvesting the minerals that are closest to the refinery. One way to do this is to manually click the minerals, another way is to manually return your miner to the refinery (as soon as it has returned it's load, the miner will start harvesting the closest minerals). You should always have a sentry gun/pill box ready, but if it's not currently needed, cancel it as soon as your money is about to hit zero. If you want to completely cancel an entire queue of vehicles/units on your side bar (usually to make a drone or flak-trak), hold shift then right-click twice. Whether you have 2 or 20 queued up, the entire queue will be cancelled. (YR only) If there are early rocketeers and a plane attacking you and you are short of cash for anti-air, but you have nothing to sell and no miners have enough load yet, cancel your queued up tanks (don't just put on hold or you won't get your money back) - you do not need them just yet. ... All those little subtle things add up in the long run. Therefore, the player who does all that will gradually become more and more ahead of the player who does not.
  15. Probably best to ask at the Mental Omega forums if you haven't already.
  16. If you just want to play online, you can download the multiplayer-only versions from xwis.net.
  17. The only new things in the last update are maps and no more 'alting'. I don't see how those updates could cause your game to not start anymore, unless there were more updates that weren't listed.
  18. It sounds like a mod, or something(s) you have modified is causing this. Try installing from a different source (TFD, Origin, xwis.net). If that doesn't do it, I suggest to backup any savegames, maps or anything you don't want to lose, uninstall both RA2 and YR then start from scratch. How are you "installing from disk"? You can't install RA2/YR from disks anymore.
  19. I have many favourite maps for many different reasons... RA2 Campaign: The Fox and the Hound - A very strategic mission (unless you do it the speed-run way) where you don't just amass a huge army to win, but make do with just a few select units. YR Campaign: Time Shift - I remember playing this mission for hours when I first got this game. I also remember thinking "Cool! Dinosaurs are back!" I also like how you go back in time and the map basically just changes into another map. Would make a cool Super Weapon - "Map Morpher!" Multiplayer: The good ol' super-unbalanced Little Big Lake - I didn't get online until years later and this was pretty much the only map I played on . So this is my favourite multiplayer map for no other reason but nostalgia... good times .
  20. What are you installing from? Try installing the multiplayer-only version provided by the xwis server, see how you go: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/177134-downloads/ because if I remember correctly, that^ version doesn't use the original YR installation screen and just basically copies the files into your RA2 folder. If it works, you can then start using patches or whatever. But that said, I'd suggest to just download and install the CnCNet YR Launcher once you've successfully installed YR.
  21. You're welcome to come back and play these older titles with us if/when you get bored over there at C&C:Online .
  22. This forum is mainly for the older C&C games (TD - YR, including mods). You'll be better off asking at the C&C:Online Support forum, if you haven't already done so.
  23. First let's check some things that even experienced players forget: Was CRATES = ON? Are you sure the game wasn't set to $100,000 from the beginning? Was it on a mod map? What's the name of the map (Some mod maps have secret easter eggs that give you a lot of cash). By the way, where's the screenshot that you mentioned above?
