  1. I'm sure it'll all become clearer when it's launched. Here are my scenarios: (the following settings are for all my preferred scenarios, unless otherwise specified) ----------- Short Game = ON MCV Repacks = ON Destroyable Bridges = ON Superweapons = ON (but preferably RANDOM if possible) No Spawn Previews = ON Game Speed = MAX Credits = 10,000 Starting Units = 0 ---------- Scenario 01: Reconcile, Superweapons=ON Scenario 02: Official Tournament Map B, Superweapons=OFF (for a bit of variety in scenarios, but preferably random if possible) Scenario 03: Pirate Bay, Superweapons=OFF Scenario 04: Cold War, Spawn 2 & 1, Superweapons = OFF (but random if possible) Scenario 05: Caverns of Siberia, Superweapons=OFF Scenario 06: Depth Charge, Spawns 1 & 3, Superweapons = ON Scenario 07: Dry Heat, Spawn Locations 2 & 4, Superweapons=OFF Scenario 08: Yin Yang, Spawns 1 & 3, Superweapons=OFF Scenario 09: The Path More Travelled By, Superweapons=ON Scenario 10: Tour of Egypt - Spawns 1 & 6, Superweapons=ON Scenario 11: Heck Freezes Over - Spawns 2 & 3, Supers = OFF (but random if possible) Scenario 12: A Path Beyond II - Spawns 7 & 8 , Superweapons=ON I initially wanted multi-engi=ON, but then a lot of people might not want to play, particularly the Chinese
  2. After giving it more thought, I think using XWIS' QM rules would be the best way. While not perfect, it has worked for so many years; why re-invent the wheel? But if the CnCNet staff have their hearts set on using 'scenarios', instead of relying on a few vocal people here on the forums, can't you guys make a stats page like XWIS has, but with added information such as game options used (crates, mutli-engi, starting units...)? It'll be much more accurate in terms of knowing what the community dis/likes and you should be able to gather enough information over just one weekend's worth of stats. Imo, in short: XWIS style QM ladder = For serious, competitive players, not noob-friendly, caters to the smaller portion of the community (but could potentially get larger over time), but a much more professional approach where skill is the focus and luck is minimized. Scenario style QM ladder = For casual players, likely to be hated by high level players, but very noob-friendly and caters to a larger portion of the community, wacky (for a lack of a better description). Could be fun. @SodswSov @XXxPrePxX I understand the added balance issues that crates will give, but I don't get why having starting units would be a problem? I'm all for zero starting units, so don't get me wrong, but I just want to understand why it would be an issue. I'm sure you guys (staff) have a good reason, but why can't there be one set of rules for QM'ers, and just allow others to make their own custom matches? As long as there are limits set for the amount of times you can play against the same person or the same map, I don't see the problem. It's worked for so many years.
  3. Reading between the lines (so correct me if I'm wrong), the goal is to create an XWIS style QM ladder (which is randomized by the game, otherwise there's no point to this discussion), but with more variety? Hmmm... XWIS' QM ladder has worked for so many years, but the mod map players and players that like to play with different rules like $500 starting funds or maxed out starting units will feel alienated and won't be able to participate. Crates=ON (like on 'Extra Small Map') used to be a big no no, but with the anti-hack coders here this setting might actually be ok now. SW=ON avoids super long matches, but some people actually enjoy long matches There's a lot to think about, but so far I like the idea (unless I misunderstood). I'll think of some 'scenarios'.
  4. I think it's more realistic to look at the balance based on gameplay rather than mathematically (based on ini files). I mean, for example, it's true that Sov miners can carry 2x more than Allied miners = Allied miners only have to travel 1/2 as much as Sov miners but in reality it goes a little bit further than that: Allied miners cannot shoot drones, but they can chrono-shift and leave the drone behind. On the other hand, Sov miners can shoot drones, but requires a service depot to remove the drone. Sov miners can defend themselves from (small) unseen tank splits, but it's Allied counter part can quickly chrono-shift away from it. Allied miners can chrono-shift to the next ore patch (including other islands), which makes harvesting more efficient in long games; Sov miners have to drive to their next patch (sometimes around cliffs, rivers or even transported to another island), but can be used to end matches. Also relating to ore: Allies have the Ore Purifier, but by the time it's built (after Radar, Tech Center and more power), it's Sov opponent will already have at least 2 more warfactories. My point is that once the basic .ini values have been written and are mathematically balanced, whether it's the vanilla version, a mod, or an entirely new rts game, the rest of the balancing/tweaking should be done ENTIRELY based on gameplay, and that .ini files should only be looked at when changing values, not when analysing the balance.
  5. No, the Allies are superior. They have 4 decent factions: USA, Korea, Great Britain and France. Soviets only have one - Iraq. The only time that the game becomes 100% balanced is in the long run (50+ games) and factions/countries and maps are randomized.
  6. The built-in single player missions are inside one of the mix files which can be extracted using the XCC Mixer. There are a lot of tutorials out there. But if all you want to do is disable a timer, just learn how to use a memory scanner, like you first suggested above.
  7. If you can see the exact value of the timer on your screen during runtime, then I don't understand why you're not able to do it (I haven't played TS missions in years so I can't remember). If you want a more detailed answer regarding Cheat Engine or CrySearch (or any other memory scanner) you're probably better off asking at unknowncheats.me. You can also mess around with TS values using Final Sun.
  8. Yeah probably, only because everyone plays with high resolutions these days which make the units too small for players to be able to see the skin designs properly. Oh well, just a dream... which will come true when EA realises that remastering Tiberian Dawn (like Starcraft) would be more profitable than all the newer generation C&Cs put together, I think so anyway.
  9. Around the late 90's, I remember thinking "Netscape Navigator (or Communicator, whatever it was) is awesome, I'll NEVER switch to Internet Explorer" . I never played any of the C&Cs online back then though because our dial-up connection was so slow, not to mention all the cutting out every time my mom's fake-nice boyfriend called . But I didn't mind, single player was still tonnes of fun .
  10. A little late for the 'quick' answer now because I only just saw your question a couple of minutes ago , but the only thing that comes up in my task manager is the obvious one which is generals.exe, regardless of whether or not gentool is open. I'm using The First Decade version on Win 7. If it doesn't work, just check it yourself (maybe your version uses a different exe file for some reason) by opening Zero Hour in *windowed mode with task manager also open. Click the 'Processes' tab then sort by 'CPU' in task manager so that whatever is currently running shows at the top of the list, then have both windows side by side and see what pops up. *Right click Zero Hour short cut -> Properties -> Target -> add -win to the end of this line.
  11. Yeah, RA2 here definitely feels different; the half a second delay with every click that I've gotten used to on xwis is gone. And also Olaf isn't around to engi us. #notrealra2
  12. Yes please, or anything that closely resembles Dune II. And also Sole Survivor so that the entire family of classic Westwood rts games are all here .
  13. Here's a RA2 glossary I made a few years ago on another server, which I'll update when I get a chance: http://xwis.net/forums/index.php/topic/179064-ra2-dictionaryglossarytermsacronymslingo/
  14. For pure Red Alert 2 (which is not supported on this server) it 's usually 'game.exe' and 'ra2.exe'. For CnCNet's RA2-Mode or Yuri's Revenge it's 'clientdx.exe' for the game lobby and 'gamemd-spawn.exe' when in-game. But unless you're doing something unusual, like changing shift + ctrl to just one key, you should be able to remap the keys in-game.
  15. You have to be more specific; what are you installing from (CD ROM? The Ultimate Collection? Downloaded?) How far do you get with the installation? Any error messages?...
  16. True, but I've seen this effectively executed with just conscripts (which are cheaper), in Marko's last stream in fact, which might be why people still prefer Iraq. Although maybe the blast radius isn't as large as with terrorists though. Why not try it against those Chinese yes guys when you play them next to make your TOE games even more fun to watch .
  17. Personally, I think the only things that should be modified are Tesla Tanks Terrorists Tank Destroyers Demolition Truck Grand Cannon The Yuri Faction RA2's been around for almost 17 years and yet nobody has come up with a way to use the first four units effectively enough so that more people will be willing to choose their respective countries on a regular basis. France's Grand Cannon and the Yuri Faction on the other hand are a little too effective that nobody using a different country wants to play against them.
  18. Ha ha yeah, good old toe on xwis. I played a few of those games, and after each one I'd get kicked for breaking another rule that I had no idea about . I think if I played 100 games I still wouldn't know all the rules.
  19. Looks good. It looks like a maze-like single player mission that's been turned into a multiplayer map . And I get why there's a tech power plant (to harness the power of the Reichenbach Falls, in real life anyway), but I'm not sure if it's worth fighting for on this map though. And it kinda sucks that the waterfalls don't gush out in RA2/YR. I like how you can't just get the bottom section straight off the bat (except for the airport) due to the sniper and howitzers, you'll have to fight both the other player as well as AI for it. This minimizes 'dog luck' at the start of the match, which can sometimes be a game decider. It's also good that it allows for both land and naval battles, and the limited amount of resources forces the players to choose their units wisely. Allies have a pretty noticeable advantage at the start though; they can quite easily and quickly capture the tech airport by transporting an engineer with the nighthawk with nothing to stop them except a little sniper, which can easily be killed by the nighthawk. The 3 howitzers suddenly become their friends as they are now guarding their airport for them. They won't be able to place down a refinery just yet though, they'll have to first clear trees and ore which is good, otherwise its an inevitable win for the allied player I think. Also, if you're using America, you'll have double para-drops on a map full of cliffs. Mirror matches might be more suitable for this map. Just one problem though; I can open the map in-game just fine, but I can't seem to open it in FinalAlert or zzattack's Map Renderer though? Why is that?
  20. Mine is set up with a HDMI cable (HDMI to HDMI) and 4k resolution on both Windows desktop and screen (automatic). Never mind, thanks anyway. YouTube does allow videos uploaded in 4k resolution to be shown in 4k resolution, it has done so for a while now. Here are a couple of examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUuKIpCM2o0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvF2Bu41FQY There are actually plenty of video websites that have 4k videos, including my favorite porn site
  21. Cool, my Windows Magnifier finally has a purpose! RA2/YR keeps crashing every time I try to load it up in 4k (on my 4k tv). How do you do it? I'm jealous But wait... how come it wasn't uploaded in 4k quality? The maximum setting you can set it to in YouTube is 1080p?
  22. That's really strange. Can you please upload a screen shot of this? And also, check that your desktop text/app size is set to 100%.
  23. Looks like only 1 from wf. Not to take away credit for your win, because you did play pretty well, but green and orange were carrying pink the entire match. I could imagine them constantly messaging him to do certain things, before finally giving up when their ore ran out while Yuri was still making brute-dollars . That well timed double-team on pink at the start was a huge set back for them.
