  1. Yeah I tried the RA2 classic mode. A lot of people who weren't paying attention got really confused when their Yuri was all soviets (and got owned)
  2. It's mightily disappointing to anyone when they finally work it out but I found out the hard way. Everything except tanks suck.
  3. I think more the challenge would be getting it to actually work.
  4. My dad had the PS1 copies of Red Alert and retaliation and so as a child, this was pretty much all I did. I learnt to play RA with a low-medium level of skill before I could read. I remember the Kosygin Mission, it becomes a whole lot easier if you just blow up the rest of the base before you try to rescue him. I always used to get stuck on the Tanya/Interior Missions (Allies 13 will forever be the hardest RA mission I have ever played) On the PS1 version if you paused the game while a tesla beam was going off onscreen the animation would keep playing on the pause menu, which looked cool. The cheats were fun too, particularly "Soylent Green" mode, where all the ore turns into people (with appropriate mining sound effects ) Also on retaliation (the expansion) on the Soviet mission "legacy of tesla" using the parabomb cheat gave you 5 nuclear bombs
  5. because at the end of the day the best way to counter these strategies is to just build more tanks. That time you spent building a MGG/Radar Jammer or a whole bunch of other stuff? the other guy built more tanks in that time and can just roll you over with them.
  6. If I wanted to play in a community with 100 assholes I'd go play at XWIS. Regardless of how good he is at any C&C game mechaseal is right, having everyone big themselves up and generally being assholes to each other (like this) is not what we want on cncnet.
  7. Shots Fired! I think as Funky said a Ladder has its positives and its negatives, but this has been asked (and answered) 100 times. While everyone wants the positives and competitions of a ladder its important to remember that actual competition brought through a ladder can bring out the very worst of some players.
  8. its something to do with the logic of automatically evacuating civilian units when they enter a helicopter. See this thread for an example of this being a problem http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?topic=3627.msg27391#msg27391
  9. I dunno, I've had some very laggy games of RA2... In fact a very large portion of them crash/dc before anything even happens.
  10. Unless you posted that in a forum where ALL of the C&C games get a fair share of publicity (and I don't know one that exists anyway) you can't get a fair result because of a baised crowd. I can be certain if you made one here Red Alert would almost certainly win, for a similar reason.
  11. in Aftermath Turrets got crazy buffed to the point they're overpowered as fuck against literally anything
  12. Ok I neglected to add the fact that I was talking about standard maps. On an infinite money map (especially that one) the game balancing becomes entirely broken. That's the difference. Bike/Buggy Spam is powerful but by no means unbeatable.
  13. The reason nobody ever builds APC, Artillery, Rangers, Radar Jammers, Mobile Gaps, Mine layers or Mammoth tanks is because Compared to Mediums/ Heavies, they suck. Only exceptions would be V2 rockets (simply to annoy turtle players) and Light tanks (for cheap fast rush). You cannot build extensive tactical gameplay on the basis of 3 useful units in the entire game. Anything an artillery or a ranger can do, a tank can do better, which is silly. There is no counter-unit effect whatsoever, its all down to who builds more tanks than the other (mostly). It all comes down to the battles of the hand on the mouse. Also you don't get 3 "types of everything", its not that simple. Look at Tiberian Dawn, Starting with anti-infantry, GDI have Grenadiers, which are badass. As well as hummers, which are used for Hit-and-runs on them. Nod have buggies (which are basically hummers), Flame tanks (slow but crazy good if you can get some shots off), as well as SSM and Artillery, all of which have their uses in the game. What about Vehicle vs Vehicle? So you got someone spamming bikes, quite powerful, but by no means unbeatable. You can use things like Infantry, Tanks, Hummers, base defenses, whatever. My point is that,, especially in Nod vs Nod, a well-measured mix of units is much more tactical and useful than spamming one kind of unit over and over. It has the appropriate level of complexity between unit counters to make things really interesting, and a battle of the minds as well as the hands on the mouse. You need complexity because it hugely enhances the gameplay.

Yeah Nod have resaerched Super jet engines powered with rocket fuel or something. It looks a bit weird but at least now building buggies on far west is actually worth it.
  15. While some of the 1-hit logic in TS is kinda retarded (disruptors in particular) that does sound pretty dumb.
  16. RA1 is simple. It isn't realistically for those who want something openly tactical. Tactical would imply it has some sort of Rock-Paper-Scissors effect. Last I checked RA1 was just Rock vs bigger Rock. The faction vs faction balancing is decent if you play standard maps, simply because they are both almost exactly the same, but unit-unit balancing is messed up. RA2 is much more tactical, but I feel it has a few small gameplay and balancing faults that take away from the game a little (I still play it a lot anyway, but im not super-good) I occasionally get the feel of it being "Scissors cuts paper, but I got a big rock that also cuts paper" Some of the top-level RA1 players are douchebags. Some are also fed up with low-skilled players getting into their games and messing up the balance of play. I have rarely seen any top-level RA2 players but the ones I have seen appear to be decent people (although arrogant as you would expect) If you want something tactical, fun, and the knowledge that the players are fairly unlikely to kick you all the time (simply because we don't HAVE any players....) then look no further: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv4hDGi5W6c (shameless plug)
  17. Yeah other than modding the map files themselves its really hard to do. in RA1 in fact they have a thing pop up if the map has unusual modifications (actually reading them can give you a huge advantage )
  18. the barren theatre does look kinda badass
  19. spam the N button if you want to find all your units (look under hotkeys if it isn't N of course)
  20. ok I was half right. It doesn't work in singleplayer, but works fine for online play
  21. I just find the allies so awkward because starting money comes in so slowly and you can't get anywhere
  22. I can't seem to get this to work. I ran the batch file and it said it copied stuff, but the jukebox in YR hadn't updated. The other thing is if I launched the batch file in admin mode it said it couldnt locate theme.mix. Weird
  23. I've had someone maximise the use of a stealth apc before ¬_¬
  24. As cn2mc said, they're impossible to "fix" in Tiberian Dawn and the whole reason you want them is because it does exist in Red Alert. We get people constantly asking for bigger maps for the same reaon. (This is also pretty much impossible to do)
  25. since I know the bare minimum about making these vids you'll have to put up with it. Besides you got enough clear view anyway
