  1. this looks really nice
  2. yeah I knew about the crazy ivan bomb stuff. Also yuri has a really easy way of countering desolators I'm sure.
  3. I feel like the soviets are too weak in general. Like their best units have such a short window of actual use, and there are too many cheesy exploits both yuri and the allies can use against them really easily (allies the battle fortress with guardians, actually OP against everything, yuri just generally mindcontrolling stuff messes you up bad)

yeah Grant thats a 3D effect you see there. As the crude editing shows its the shadows you want in range.
  5. I'll stick with the obelisk of light thanks, much better balanced than any kind of tesla coil you can create.
  6. everything Ultima has described im pretty sure matches mining gems in RA, which was retextured as blue Tiberium in Red Dawn.
  7. it half works on my win 8.1 laptop ¬_¬
  8. ok, sounds nice. Now try replicating your theory using only RA's engine
  9. you'll keep your GPS (with radar screen) if you still have your tech centre active, even on low power.
  10. It would probably end up being like a laser Turret from Tiberian Sun but a lot more powerful
  11. I thought Iran made a fix for that by adding a civevac tag in the ini/mpr file (under basic?)
  12. Stupid-ass mod maps like these are why Red Alert is so popular. Believe me I think maps like these are as dumb as a chocolate teapot but everyone plays those...
  13. something funny you can do with today's high-end PC's. Go on singleplayer (skirmish or w/e) and set game speed to max
  14. It was actually a ps1 game (but the ps2 could play ps1 discs), but I whenever I played it I always played on turbo. I find slowed RTS games to be rather dull, because it gives you more time to make decisions and it takes away some of the reactive skillset that you get when playing at a really fast pace.
  15. No, I mean I'm 95% sure that the 2 storylines are part of the same storyline, as opposed to RA where you get 2 different endings, because while Nod succeed in Africa they slowly are defeated in Europe, and then stuff happens and then Tiberian Sun happens.
  16. I thought Nod's campaign in TD DID play out at about the same time as GDI's campaign
  17. so GDI's mammoth tank would have nothing to do with the Soviet Mammoth tank? no? the similarities im pretty sure exist because they were too lazy to draw new .shp files (things like artillery, turrets and a few other things)
  18. My dad had ps1 copies of Red Alert and Red Alert: Retaliation and I can remember being able to play RA to a competent level before I could read, having played since I was 3. I played single-player on and off for about 6 years. When I was about 8 my dad got me Red Alert 2, and I used to take up the family computer for hours playing that (or Transport Tycoon Deluxe). RA2 seemed like such a cool game, and was even cooler when I got given the Yuris Revenge CD as well. When I was about 11 my dad got me a copy of the first decade, along with a new computer for me and my bro to share. It was incredible. Suddenly I had a whole selection of C&C games for me to experiment with. Having put several hours into all the C&C's in the lot (with the exception of Tiberian Sun, which crashed a lot) I found myself mostly playing Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert 1 and Red Alert 2. Tiberian Dawn obsessed me with the different game mechanics, the different factions, even the cool music, and I found the missions much more enticing (and difficult). I always wondered if anyone else out there was playing and wondered if I could play other people (remember I had missed out on all the online play). I got C&C3 after it came out and played it on-and-off. When I was about 14 I was bored one day and decided to google Red Alert to see if anything had happened recently, and stumbled upon cncnet, and immediately downloaded it. I only played RA at first, and improved over time, but became disappointed at how repetitive and bland the online gameplay was. I was aware Tiberian Dawn games were very very limited at the time, but I managed to get a night or two and ended up getting annihilated 5 or 6 times by Lovehandles, which kinda sucked, but it taught me how to play Tiberian Dawn in a much better way, which enhanced my single-player experience massively (for the majority of C&C's, including revisiting C&C3), as well as my multiplayer game. I finally beat all the Tiberian Dawn missions when I was about 15 and my dad turned around and said "I beat that game before you were born" Thanks Dad. When cncnet5 came out (or at least the beta) I saw very quickly a lot more players and a lot more games (and most importantly more Tiberian Dawn games) and the continuously growing player base has helped me enhance my game hugely (big players like Lovehandles and cn2mc challenging me to improve). As of the last couple days I've almost completely stopped playing RA now (it got rather dull, and the nostalgia effect ran out) but I still seek as many Tiberian Dawn games as I can find, and do my best to be an absolute menace to anyone willing to face me Summary of the story is I've been playing C&C's since before I could read, and have enjoyed many many many hours out of it.
  19. I guess its kinda the same as how I use artillery as Nod, but the high tech building requirement as well as the fact I'd rather spend $800 on a medium tank (or even 5 grenadiers) is kinda offputting.
  20. Just Grenadiers? Just in early game I've used mixtures of mostly rocket soldiers, grenadiers, maybe a guard tower and even sandbags (for those APC scumbags) Keeping your weapons factory alive is an extremely useful skillset on its own. Try hiding it in your base and condensing other buildings around it to limit movement. Of course this might leave you a bit susceptible to a nuke later in the game but until they get a temple its the best way to defend it. Of course a smart GDI player wouldn't use 100% vehicles.... But for what bikes are I always found them too powerful vs heavy armour Everyone loves Apaches..... Also when you have an attack unit selected you can find stealthed units by hovering your cursor over the minimap, because it changes to an attack cursor when it hovers over a spot with a stealthed unit in it. Not particularly useful when you are using higher resolutions. I think I frequently use every unit (some more than others of course) with the exception being the Rocket Launcher. Even light tanks are useful for things. Another favourite is scouting with my harvester and squishing all their men with it. Other things include: -Nod Artillery weapon is run completely by RNG, and can often be inaccurate. -Nod flamer infantry have a tendency to destroy themselves and any friendlies near them when they die -Burning trees with flame weapons makes them indestructible -Flame tanks and infantry may randomly target trees when ordered to walk near them, so careful when grouping units around trees. -South Advantage applies as same to RA, this gives certain siege weapons a huge boost in combat (*cough* Arty *cough*) -Crates are bad, including spawning instant commandos, visceroids and dropping nukes on you, as well as the small chance you actually crash the game. -Advanced Guard towers are useless vs armoured units, so spamming them against groups of tanks is a pretty dumb idea. -Spamming SSM missiles is for douchebags And Finally (Shameless plug) JackoDerpcnc95guide.txt
  21. origin and problems are like husband and wife, very hard to seperate.
  22. I left a 1-cell tile, it was crashing because it wasn't 2 tiles. :| weird.
  23. Maybe, but I was getting this problem reinforcing even single-unit teams
  24. thats weird, I've never experienced that kind of error before. It works properly now, although I've also discovered unloading a minelayer from a transport causes it to drop a mine, funny.
  25. The basic idea is you get to the damaged base, then some migs come in and bomb a couple of things and then you are supposed to be given some extra units from off the map, but anytime I try to reinforce anything in the game just immediately crashes (as previously described). for testing purposes there is a well placed tank just outside base detection zone. scu01ea.ini
