This is it: The FINAL final GDI mission. No, seriously, this is the last mission... until I start the Nod campaign, that is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKGlzklxl_w -

Running the C&C Demo in Windows 7's Windows XP Mode

Okay, DOSbox suddenly decided to do the job because reasons. Well, who cares, the game runs! -

Thanks. I tried to run it with DOSbox, but that failed completely. I'll give VDMSound a go, though. I don't think it's supported anymore, but since it's for old games, that shouldn't matter. I have good experience to getting mid-90s FMV games to run with it a couple years ago. -

I already got that version. Yes, I will LP RA1 too. But before I do that, I'll do Covert Operations, the PSX bonus missions and the N64 bonus missions. And the Fun Park campaign. Hell, I'll LP Sole Survivor if I can get it to run. -

And now for the final mission in the GDI campaign! Well, the first map for the final mission, that is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_kZoaMz_BA -
I guess that's the hard part for me. At $450, you really can't complain about the price, though.

Favourite: Nod flame tank, probably. It's good against infantry and building, decent against everything else, looks like some sort of giant fire-spitting maggot (that's a plus in my book) and it's just some much fun burning down building with a flame tank. Least favourite: As per OP, Nod artillery. Their price is good and they do decent damage against everything, but they are so fragile and so sloooooow. Unless you micromanage artillery, it always seems to move too close to the target, and unless you go up against a construction yard, it misses 75% of the time.

So I got my hands on the C&C demo (the one with the three GDI missions). To my surprise, I could install it just like that in Windows 7's Windows XP Mode - no DOSbox needed! The only thing I had to do was disable integrated features. However, there are two issues. Firstly, the sound is sometime cut off. When I installed the demo, EVA offered me the choice of some ten different sound cards. My modern sound car wasn't among them, obviously, so I choose Soundblaster, but I had good experience with that when running old games under Windows XP. The sound is mostly fine, but occasionally cut off. Can anyone recommend a different device? I don't want to uninstall and reinstall the demo ten times to try out every option. Secondly, the XP mouse and the in-game mouse cursor are out of sync. I can see both, they move a different speeds and do not overlap. Any ideas how to fix this?

The link to the homepage for the C&C95 editor is broken (page is down), but the Internet Archive still has a 2009 version of the website: https://web.archive.org/web/20091028194911/http://www.xs4all.nl/~jarit/ccmap/

As a little bonus, I dug out and uploaded this Red Alert trailer and this Tiberian Sun trailer. I especially like the latter. It's short, but makes the it feel like an entirely different game. The who animation is very C&C-esque. -

Sweet. I've got to catch up with some videos. -
Wow, I didn't even remember that! I've got to play more MP matches.

But that's the Nod SSM launcher, not the GDI rocket launcher, isn't it?
-
Two questions I've been asking myself for years: 1. Are vehicles delivered faster if the airstrip is close to the eastern edge of the map? Or is it always a set amount of seconds before vehicle is delivered? 2. Why can GDI rocket launchers be delivered via a Nod airstrip? Because they are so similar to the Nod napalm launcher?

C&C is probably my all-time favourite RTS, and it holds up so well today. The controls and menus and easy and responsive, the graphics are clear, the tech tree makes sense, everything. Hell, some stuff like the side menu would MORE sense today. Nowadays most people have a widescreen monitor where a bottom menu just wastes space. C&C had widescreen support before widescreen existed! I know, the side menu isn't unique to C&C, but bottom menus seem to be more dominant. -
I very vaguely remember a mod where every unit used the Obelisk of Light laser or the flame tank flame attack. And one where every building and unit costs $1. That made for some interesting matches.
