Hey all, In the ladder testers forum we have constant debates regarding map listing, point systems, and other general things. I'd like to just inform everyone of the changes we agreed on for the ladder month of December 2017. 1) Point system is completely re-hauled For December 2017 we have a new point system calculation that will hopefully bring a more competitive environment to the ladder. Most notably: Players will now lose points based on points/rating Players will now win a large percentage of their points based on their ranking and opponents ranking. This part is a very similiar calculation to the old WOL formula. We turned down the percentage of points gained based on rating, making it easier for players to start out. These points can be further seen by the following calculation: winner points = wol + rp + rElo loser points = (negative) wol + rElo rp = (Enemy rating * Ally rating) / 230000 rElo = elo(Enemy rating, Ally rating) wol = 1/(10 ^ (ladder points difference)/600) +1) cap: you can't lose more than 10% of your points in one game. guard: If you lose to someone who has less than 10 games, then wol = wol * (enemy games/10) 2) Did away with the Masters/Contenders league You will no longer see a distinction between these two ladders. We are all one family again. 3) Map list rotated. Check this topic for the Yuri's Revenge map updates here: https://forums.cncnet.org/topic/7843-december-quick-match-map-pool/. Note that happy trails is now in QM with crates ENABLED. If you are not happy with crates being on, please feel free to veto the map. This was added to add to the spirit of the holidays. ? Please feel free to post any observations / criticisms you have. Remember, this ladder is still in trial mode.

Yeah -- just as a general update: I have a basic bracket made, but will need to re do it with the inclusion of a few new teams and members. I'm quite busy at school so the bracket will come either tonight or tomorrow unless we have more groups/members continue to join. Should be up during the weekend and we are not in a super-rush to play games ASAP, so don't be too worried.
-
Yeah, @SodswSov might be a good idea?
-
Absolutely... I would think you could even 3on3 if all 6 members are present.
-
Id say no fourth member as we want the players listed to be the players playing... if a7 and sypop post here they can definitely join as a team... otherwise they can be the third member on a squad. im hoping to get a bracket done by tonight and a post made. @Win4ester ill make you admin of it.
-
Good idea, @a1nthony are you cool with teaming up with Blazer?
-
You are unknown to this community. Unfortunately, if no one else can vouch for your participation, then we are full at 8 teams. I am guessing you are someone known on random nicknames -- it'd be much easier to just let us know who you are to play, otherwise I can't let you join as I have no idea if you'll be active/who you are.
-
Awesome, you guys are in. @Blazer, no problem -- you can join up with a team and be a third member if you'd like. I'd be fine with you joining my team if you know Rocketeer at all?
-
No problem -- Since we're starting earlier then expected it won't put us into too much of a rush. And the rules will likely be as follows: Starting map: Heck Freezes Over (some variation to be determined) Who picks: Loser picks next map SW: On/off (undetermined, but likely On based on others comments here) Series played to 5 wins likely. All these rules will be confirmed in the final post when we get the bracket up.
-
OK guys, we will start it this weekend and for anyone who has issues -- we can talk. Still open to objections, but I can't imagine anyone have issues with starting it early. I figure we will just do a simple "loser picks map" situation with the first map being heck freezes over. That way we don't have to create a long list of rules on which maps are included. As for SW on/off? I'm leaning towards off.
-
Ok, that puts us up to 8 teams. Is anyone against us starting this tournament within a few days? I can put together a random bracket, some basic rules, and we can have anyone else who wants to join try to tag on to a team so that we can start to have some teams of 3 to ensure games get played. So, anyone against starting this tournament now and hopefully ending by the end of December?

Zhasulan vs Matt (until 7 victories) (Close games).

Good games, I enjoy watching Matt play. Your commentary = excellent as well. Game on TOE was awesome. -
Cool games. Great commentary. 2 notes: 1. Dune Patrol sucks :p. Such a shit map, but is fun as hell to watch. 2. On TOE Zhas should never go 2 miners. TOE has too much money and too easy to rush to go 2 miners. Go 1 at most.

Yeah, SW most likely will be on unless other teams have issues with it. Victories to be determined based on how big the tournament gets, but Probably at most 5 wins and at least 3 wins. Don't want to have TOO many wins required otherwise that's a big time commitment.
-
That's a good suggestion that I have no problem with. If people want teams of 3-4 then by all means... ... Just let's try to keep some of the teams balanced. In the interest of competition ;).
-
Well, Dec. 10th is just the start time. You have final exams throughout the Holiday break? That sucks! Just let us know :).
-
This tournament will be held from a rough range of December 10th-Januaryish. All games will be streamed No Yuri faction allowed Please only sign up if you know you'll be around and ready to play. Looking for 8 to 16 total teams to have a simple single elimination bracket Settings/Maps to be determined So far it looks like we have something like -NRA Rocketeer + Prep + SodswSov -Scalpem + Dodger -Frequenzy + Heldro - Matt (Vwwwwww) + Max -Buffalo + Chandler + Justin -Quix + Gun_Man + a1nthony -LeOwnzAll + JSDS + Sypoy -Marsh + Kinkys3x -lud0wig + Zhasulan -Tim and ZigZag -Luci + Marko + Dan (If any of these teams can't confirm, please let us know in this post.) Please confirm teams in this post. Interested: Blazer Streamers: Win4ester

I'll definitely make a sign up post with information later today.

I'd say no Yuri. My goal in this tourny would be to collect the most skilled teams to compete, so I'd want to avoid things like the Yuri faction.
-
If we can get @VWWWWWWWWWWW and Max as a team, perhaps @GanXster and Edd (?) that'd be cool. Maybe a @Omituinen based team, a @ZiGZaG team, perhaps an ico team, that'd be cool. We can run it during December, perhaps around December 15th starting date? Win4ester could definitely stream some. Could be a nice holiday event for the game.
-
Likely need at least 8 teams minimum and 16 teams maximum to make it worthwhile. @[NRA]Rocketeer and I likely taking first place :D.
-
Would have no problem running one if there was enough interest. However, there hasn't been much interest in tournaments for a while now. Show me interest and I'll put it together np.

Opinion: Pet Peeve on Laming in FFG on East vs. Best

False. It's the majority's version of a GG. Always has been. -

I shouldn't have used the term proper. That is elitist. But there is unspoken rules that we all follow. IF there wasn't, every game would diverge into an engi rush in the first 3 minutes. You may tell me to put multiengineer on. How will that stop my tank getting promoted from crates in 30 seconds and taking out another opponent? You may say don't play with crates. How can that stop me from abusing maps like heck middle or what I talk about with EvB cliffs? You say re-do the maps or just play a select few of maps. Soon this thought process becomes so complex that i can only play with a select few people and on certain maps/situations. That's not the reality of the game -- i sign in, i play with anyone/everyone over wide range of maps + settings. In a FFG there is unspoken rules that maximize the fun output for everyone involved. No one on any side wants someone to own the whole other team in the first 90 seconds. That ruins any game on any map. I understand your point -- but I don't think it's very realistic. On that note -- a large majority of games I play on CNCNET (FFG's, 6 player, 4 player, or 8 player) are really good GG's.
