CnCNet Red Alert 1 (without Internet) - 2 questions

Hi,

 

Today I visited someone to install him CnCNet Red Alert. Before meeting him, I copied everything on a USB drive.

We did not have Internet connection where we met. 

I was surprised that Internet was required for the installation. I had on the USB drive the CD's content. Is it because I selected a different language than English and that the download of the additional language packs were required ?

Also, even if I start the game in LAN mode, it checks for updates. Just added -noupdate when starting CnCNet is sufficient to organize a LAN without an Internet connection ?
