I reckon that an auto-ping on player joining is a better idea, because it gives a better idea of how good a player's connection is.

"Red Alert has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Jacko replied to hifi's topic in CnCNet News
This sounds very useful. I get quite a lot of crashes when playing with people on my RA mod and was wondering if we could have some causes found (I already found the gap gen insta-crashed, which was strange) -
on a similar note yesterday I found a strange bug where I had my first cy blown up, and then after I took another one from somewhere else all the building icons were greyed out and I couldn't build anything, which was infuriating as it almost cost me the game.

Auto-Crush I think is a crude recreation of the campaign AI, which is a pain in the ass to control units with.

Best thing to do imo is set space to repair. So fast

hmm.. I see what you mean. Maybe it could be some sort of optional addon or something.
-
I'm not sure, but recently I've seen a few clients having similar problems apparently related to ra95-spawn.exe

I would like to submit a suggestion (that could be applied to red dawn as well) that, by using music.ini, could you not add in ALL the tiberian dawn tracks seperately, so that you have the RA and TD music in one playlist?
-
you *can* but the mapmaker has to make sure hes actually pasted the maps into his cncnet5 maps directory
-
I agree. Afk hosting (I'm going to create the term if nobody else has) is one of the most annoying things around. You often get lobbies full up with people waiting for a non-existent host to start the game, then everyone gets pissed off and leaves.
-
I'm not sure. Because the radar screen has given it as a blue (i.e. Allied -> Enemy) Object. Given I've never seen a bug like this I suggest you try force-firing on the square in question, by checking that 100% everything else has been destroyed. One other option is to attempt to load the map with raed (if you don't need to explore the campaign mix file) and change the map/terrain in question to sort it out.

I think Winter could have been pushed for RA, but westwood opted for Snow instead. C&C1 had its eastern-most mission take place in Ukraine (if you picked the right option for the mission before of course)

OpenTTD does have a very good development base but the point of OpenTTD was it was supposed to be a 99% copy of the original (non-freeware/opensource) game, but it is coded more efficiently to allow more user-compatible modifications (yes, mostly newgrfs) whereas OpenRA is about a different take on what RA was and an attempt to 'improve' and tweak the game. I'm not aware of moddability and customisation of OpenRA, but some of Irans and other devs new fancy tools and functions that have been added to vanilla and cncnet5 show that RA itself has changed a bit since original release. A lot of the 'pure' C&C clones have died because they got less followers than the actual game themselves, and because the originals were free anyway (well they are now). You could list RA and OpenRA as very similar games, but they are programmed and run (and played as a matter of fact) very differently to each other.
-
Because sometimes you get those tiny tweaks that, to some players, remove the image that you are playing the game that has been 'remade'. A 'modernised' UI doesn't mean its a better UI, the slightly different controls or command options and strategies that most on-off and or amateur players would simply ignore and/or accept could have quite an impact on those who know the original Red Alert well. (except for Q logic, PLEASE get rid of that). You could never create an exact replica of a game and have every fan love it, because if you wanted a 100% replica with all UI and features as you want them, then you might as well play the Original RA anyway.
-
I agree, OpenRA is something totally different to RA, while most of the running graphics and stuff suggests otherwise. The main difference being of course the totally different engine, and that everything is run differently. I am a prime example of what funky said but I think super extensive modding of Red Alert (like rewriting engine and hardcoded logic) could probably be done through OpenRA.

I think it would be vastly recommended to have it fit with Iran's latest cncnet5 version of Red Alert, because that;s what everyone downloads now.
-
Surely then the best option would've been to not put jungle effects on the ends of the tiles? Because that way the pieces would still fit snugly without looking a bit strange. Everything else looks really good though.
-
on that screenshot I think there might be an error between 2 river tiles (middle bottom)

or use xcc mixer, that works too.

yes the cncnet lobby is a strange place. you do occasionally get people actually talking about C&C but like most internet chat lobbies its just a random variation of things.

Wow I wrote my 500th post to say I can't read. How amazing. Still cncnet is something to be impressed about, we have almost patched and relaunched the games in a way, with lots of new players coming since cncnet5 was officially launched.
-
Ferret what have I told you about being a douche? I can't even read half of that.
-
I think the main thing about the dinos from C&C95, (velociraptors at least) healed up everytime they attacked an infantry unit
-
Yeah I just read the whole list. It looks awesome, I see a lot of the stuff implemented towards the end of cncnet4 before cncnet5 was officially released.

I'm not 100% sure about what tiberian dawn allows you to do (I've got a Red Alert campaign in the making) but its always good to have a variation between missions. (So stuff like build a base to commando infiltration to something else)
