  1. Welp, it also depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for 1on1 games at your skill level, you will search very long. If you are looking for good, fun 3on3/4on4 games, it won't take too long. Another good host is Burg and iHaTeAll_NeW
  2. I can only speak of ra2/yr, but the most useless units in ra2/yr are the "special" units for the teams that never get used because their special units suck: Tank Destroyers and Tesla Tanks namely. Awful units! Of the original units that are involved in every game, it is hard to pick 1 as almost all other units serve a purpose. Off the top of my head, Robot tanks and Apocalypse tanks are (suprisingly) the most useless units I can think of. Robot tanks probably take #1 over apocs as they require base power and an entire new building (robot tech center) to build/be useful. They rarely ever get used. Apoc tanks are actually useful in very unique situations, but in most games, they are borderline useless past 1-2 of them for fun.
  3. Generally, I agree that infinite money/mod maps are terrible, however, there are some decent variations of them. I played a lot of beach frontier for a while, even did some 1on1's vs piners on there and had great games. The unfortunate thing occurs when people build 8 MCVS to take advantage of fast base building and then the game diverges into a massive camp fest. Usually, I don't let me opponents do that on beach frontier as I assault them with land air and sea early enough to force them from building 8 mcvs right away. It's a different story when they have 8 war facs up and can produce an mcv in seconds, tho.
  4. Hi Kike, I see the tournament going, how is everything going? Good games? I don't really know any of the 4 left :(. My boy Karambooo got knocked out grrr.
  5. Good map: Death Valley girl 1on1. Why? Well, superweapons must be on for this to be a good map, but its a great dynamic between Allies vs. Soviets. Allieds want the late game where they will almost be invincible with bfs/mirages at cliffs and chronosphere, but soviets have a lot of weapons early to go crazy rush and still manage to get a pretty early iron curtain. Creates hectic, stressed gameplay and has a lot of creative BOs that work. Could all out rush (since its hard to scout) or play for late game.
  6. I used CamStudio free download online somewhere. There are many other programs that will record your screen, the key is just learning what works best for your setup and how to get it to record over gameplay. GL
  7. I think you've been had. J_J does not mean anything significant unless you are talking about the ra2 xwis player JJ who used (?) to play. He was quite good.
  8. Marko, you are one of the best players in the game (and a very fair/respected one), would you use alt on any regular basis in ranked games? If not, why not?
  9. I'm not surprised to see Defcon 6 getting some hate. In 1on1 matches, it was always a map I hated playing as I felt it was one of the maps that a much lesser skilled player could get a lucky win against me on. Too easy to lame and there is serious moments in the early going that could dictate the game based on a drone or one unlucky move.
  10. So, to piggyback off the "what's your favorite map" thread, I thought I'd make this thread. 1. Arena 33 forever -- This is a map that my style of gameplay absolutely rapes at. I dominate this map. I love getting tech buildings, applying pressure right away, and destroying my opponent by taking all gems. Unfortunately, this map is really all about a dog battle and the first 90 seconds of gameplay (securing the middle derricks). This is especially prevelant on the left and right sides as whoever gets one oil derrick, usually gets both. This provides a pretty uneven gameplay dynamic. Fun map, but there are better 3on3 maps out there. 2. Country Swing -- Classic map but this is a 1 or 2 bo fits all map. You have basic bo's that you play on this map in 2on2 and its almost always the same. The ore eventually runs out, you sell buildings, its a good game but its the same thing everytime! 3. Blood feud/Dune patrol - overplayed and they are much too simplistic. People like them because their easy to play and learn, but if they use these maps to gauge how good a player truly is, then they are missing 90% of the actual game.
  11. asilentecho, I agree with your bigger map picks -- GSF/heartland (especially heartland) are classics.
  12. Very cool mate. Nice to see the orange army aka Karamboo playing.
  13. Also, if you ever see the hosted games "The Orange Army" by Karambooo or "Balkanan" by Serbia_1, these are great games to join. They play a host of different maps and styles and usually big 3on3 or 4on4 games. These are my vote for best and most consistent hosts around.
  14. no doubt! I find that the key is to find a good group and you get GG's constantly. I mean, yeah, we're not talking top 10 players on xwis or anything, maybe not even top 100, but when you put these guys in 4on4's or 3on3's all you need are players that know a bit of what their doing and its GGs.
  15. Goooood Answer. Official tournament map B was one of my first "favorite" maps on ra2 XWIS back in 2005. I played it religiously. I love the aspect of different strategies. One game you could go 3 war factories while building towards your opponent and the next you can go to immediate naval. I also used navy stretches there a lot (which is likely a bad thing as I think that map has the most "tie game" scenarios in history of ra2!). Heck's another map that is spectacular.
  16. Don't know if you just came back or not, but if you did just come back to the game -- give it 1-2 days of good playing on the game, you'll soon learn all the GG players away from the newby/lame players :D. I can almost consistently get good games whenever i get on.
  17. Watch the video dude obviously you don't watch the video clic fucking here I watched the video multiple times. At no point does anything come OUT of the war factory. Besides, it does not touch upon my other concern (miners wouldn't be able to get to ore refinery in similiar scenario).
  18. No problem mate, it was just very hard to read.
  19. Kike, if the miner cant get to the war factory, can the rhino tanks get out of the war factory? Also, this doesn't work for an ore refinery, even if it did work for a war factory.
  20. I fail to see how walls can defend against an alt. You CANNOT wall up a war factory or ore refinery. You need to have openings to let your tanks get out and let your miners mine. If you have openings, the player can alt it.
  21. Ok, now try that again with an intelligible post.
  22. Alting is not only lame, but bug abuse and borderline cheating (depending on definition). Difference between an engi rush and an alt? An engi rush is doing exactly what it is designed to do. From my understanding, it was never meant that you could stack a tank on top of an enemy building and have an enemy cause damage to his own building for shooting your tank (This is why alting is a bannable offense on XWIS server). Now, from a gameplay point of view, why is alting lame? Scenario 1: Let's say you are in a ranked 1on1 game on the map Blood feud. Your opponent is Yuri and you are the soviets. Yuri decides to build Power, slave miner, barracks, slave miner base order. He sends his first slave miner directly to your base and stacks it right on top of your ore refinery. What can you do in this situation? You can no longer get early ore to your refinery, you have to kill that miner to get money and thus kill your ore refinery. Yea, there ARE ways around that attack, but it is incredibly difficult to deal with. Scenario 2: Both players are having a great game and resources are running limited. It's sov vs. sov on country swing, both players have sold MCV and are down to their final buildings. Player A decides to sneak in 2-3 tanks to enemies war factory. In any normal situation, player B would simply react quickly and kill those tanks, but Player A decides to alt the war factory and suicide his tanks to kill player B's only war factory. Now player A has won abusing a glitch. Bogus.
  23. Team map that requires all members to be doing something strategic and different (i.e. not everyone can go navy, and not everyone can go land). I don't feel camping is too big of a problem on the map since if someone camps vs. land, you just go around and use navy, etc. Loveeee it. The only issue is the dependence on oil derricks. If they get taking out early, it's hard to come back.
  24. It just seems like the community does not want to play any tournaments anymore. There is no interest from its members.
