  1. Extremely hard for me to pick a favorite map. I have a 'soft' spot for 3on3 Bay of pigs. It's a pretty balanced map from all factions (minus yuri's boomers which is just unfair on almost any water map) and most importantly it features an excellent balance of Land, Air, Naval warfare. With supers on it really has many dimensions to it. You can be the soviets and kill opponents via land while the opponents focus too much attention on navy/air. You can be allies and rush with destroyers/rocketeers in hopes to weaken the enemys oil derrick reserves. You can rush to super weapons in hopes to be the first with SW and win the game that way... with a chronosphere prism tank attack etc. You can camp it out at the small pinch points on the map. So many endless strategies on the map, I usually do not play the same strategy twice in a row. The only problem is boomers cant be seen and on such a large naval map make it truly unfair. Also, allied destroyers rushing around the map to kill oil derricks are borderline destructive to the gameplay. It sucks when an allied player goes straight to 2-3 destroyers, comes from behind, and while you are barely getting your first couple of rhino tanks out, there behind your base destroying your derricks.Although, this tactic can be stopped by the more proficient if it is seen.
  2. This has been discussed ad infinitum. Unfortunately, the ladder situation is not looking good right now. For more in depth information, check the ladder subforum here on cncnet forums.
  3. As the world turns... Ra2/YR players never grow up . We have one guy posting threads regarding attacks where he has verbally attacked people 10x worse in the past, and we have other players talking about burning jews. Funniest thing about this is... these guys are clan mates, haha. Moral of the story: Just move on.
  4. I was playing some 1on1's today, and my first game on dune patrol i went 3 war facs, the next game (against the previous game's observer) I sold mcv and rushed on 2 miners. Both games I won, but the second game, the opponent called it a shit tactic and it made me think of this thread/this comment. Why do people think this? Selling MCV to rush is the most important tactic in the game. It keeps your strategies working. If we never sold MCV, then the opponent would assume exactly what I was going to do on a map like dune patrol. Selling MCV is not for noobs, it's a tactic to switch up the game flow and it is very important for newbs to learn and pro's to use sparingly. I notice that I sell mcv much less now that I have better command over the game (in comparison to my 2003 self), but I see it as a very viable tactic. Additionally, I love when my opponent sells mcv because i know exactly what their doing. Very rarely am I caught off guard (another case of experience )..
  5. About Mirkwood: Decent map, i like the idea of a small close combat 2on2 map. I think the ore/gem placement and amount is ideal for the map. I think the tech buildings are a little weird. Overall, fun map to try I think.
  6. Ah, I am sorry, I did not see the link the first time. My apologies! Thank you for your answers.
  7. 2 Questions: 1. When you say "loser picks map", does that mean, if I were to lose, I could pick ANY map in the cncnet database? I could, theoretically, choose to play Powder Keg in a 1on1? 2. Why is speed on "faster" but not fastest? It would seem that the tournament would be very laggy.
  8. This problem most certaintly exists and is detailed further by: When you enter any skirmish games you take on the settings that the game host had entirely if you host a game yourself. This is quite annoying when there are some terrible settings (100,000 credits, wtf!!) and you accidently start your next game because it was switched on.
  9. Just search twitch for marko vs. buffalo, like 6-7 games on there.
  10. Shit just got real when Justin is baking cookies for the team!
  11. That is one of the most important elements of a ladder that isn't mentioned as much as it should be. The current state of cncnet seems to be very stagnant in terms of skill level. Players that aren't as skilled simply stay that way (for the most part) because they don't ever get into a real challenge or really develop the necessary creativity via quick match scenarios. I also second that a ladder where there is only a custom match option will not be successful.
  12. I definitely think this is a good option as long as when you click on "playing ra2?" then the ra2 setting is automatically enabled (and thus, you can't join a ra2 game and actually play a YR game). I think it's a wise move.
  13. Yo that's a great map. The tech buildings in the middle are important but the oils on each side gives both teams ability to fight for middle even if they lose the very middle techs. Great map
  14. I'm not going to give a thesis on why ladders are important, but I will respond to your last statement. Players are already excluded from games based on skill level. If I notice a player that is going to ruin my game because his skill level isn't up to par, I'm not playing with him. This makes sense as why would me and 4 other good players want to play with one bad player? It makes a 3on3 match turn into a 3on2. Similarly, in 1on1 games, it's no real fun for me to destroy newbs.
  15. What I do sometimes is go in the lobby and claim to be the best player on the game. That usually ruffles some feathers, enough to get some good challenges. Make a cheeky game title like "1on1 with the best online" and your money. May not be your style, but it seems to work .
  16. That headrush map is awesome! Only complaint is the 2 oil derricks in the exact middle of the map. Seem un-needed. Also, I would have only put 1 oil derick on each island instead of 2. Great map tho!
  17. The second map has too much shit going on. Beautiful created map, but there is simply too much shit on the map to make it really a good map. Often times map makers make this mistake .
  18. Cool idea, Joe. I've actually played Not Heck Again somewhere online, haha. It's actually a really fun map!
  19. Final update: Tournament has been cancelled as there was not enough demand for it. Spent 2+ hours looking for players, managed to get up to 7, but it was very difficult to do so. Thank you to all who had interest.
  20. As an update, we got 1.5 hours to go and we have 7 of the 16 participants so far. We need more!
  21. Yes KronoYuri, the tournament is still slated to be on. I will be on for the next 3 hours promoting this tournament, so if it all works out, we will have 16 players ready to go very soon.
  22. For Justice map, perhaps give each spot a healthy dosage of safe ore behind their base and maybe take away the ore in the middle and make it small gem spots instead. That way the player who risks having his/her miner in the gem spots does so at the risk of losing it, but at the same time, people can still mine regular ore safely behind their base.
  23. Naval gate is a perfect 2on2 map, my only complaint is that it is pretty simple and symmetric. With that being said, I'd happily play on that map. The updated map 2 is pretty good as well. There might be a little too much in the center for it to be perfect (ie. the team that wins center early wins the entire game with ease), but this is close to a map that I could see westwood online itself making. Impressive as always.
  24. Pretty cool map. My only complaint is that there is a litttttle too much going on in it. There's machine shops, oil derricks, airports, secret labs, etc. I'd cut down on them. In fact, I'd eliminate all machine shops, tone it down to 2-3 oil dericks per person and eliminate the secret labs as well.
