Alting is not a big problem, it helps in certain situations only, where you lost mcv and you will get alt and lose your only wf. mostly alt is a fail. So i am ok with both alt not allowed or alt allowed.

ALT effectiveness comes from it's main objective of adding splash [even from machine gun fire (which mind doesn't splash in any other RTS)].
Especially in the case of lamer players, you'd build sentry / pillboxes to defend your factory against engineers, which then can be taken advantage of by ALTing.

The only time unit blocking was useful was when people would rush and ALT with their first tank, both the blocking and bonus damage is what makes ALT so powerful in these 'special' circumstances.

Yet in the above described scenario of 'unit blocking' with a single tank it's a lot more viable to just make engineers and keep fixing your factory, while in the case of multiple units adding splash damage you don't really get the chance to react.

All you can do is shout "mother*****" and sell your factory, which leaves your opponent with a tank count advantage which he can use to destroy your miners while you're there waiting for that 'new' factory to build up, which is another 2 tank advantage in production.

Back in the day even a 1 tank advantage was 'huge' in competitive games.

Probably not as effective as using your first tank, but years ago on good ol' Little Big Lake (RA2), I remember getting alted by my enemy's first miner. I lost because it caught me off guard and I didn't know what to do, plus I was too busy laughing :D.

I am having an issue where the game is installed correctly using wine and loads the game right up to the CNCnet menu for version 5.5 but each time I try to join a game, create a game, play a skirmish or anything past the point of "Launch Game" will immediately kick me back to the menu.
I've been tinkering with it for a while and I'm not sure if its related to the game itself, the CnCNet client, or maybe I made a mistake somewhere along the way.
Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated and good vibes shall flow forth for your generosity.

Ever since the install of this, the patriot missile base defense towers, for the allied faction dont do anything. They build and then just sit there. Before theyd actually shoot at stuff. The game runs as it should, and doesnt really have any bugs, the only issue is literally the base defense towers.

      Am i missing a file?

Trying to setup Origin RA2/YR on a new Macbook Pro 16".  Downloaded the software from Origin, installed latest YR CNC5 installer.  The new MBP16 has a Radeon Pro 5300M.  Following the issues I experienced:
      1. Using Origin, I can start the program but I see the application only on around 1/9 of the display on the top left side of the MBP16 display - the rest is black and obviously the game cannot be payed due to the small resolution.  Tried to look for solutions, changed to the latest ddraw.ddl I could find - no change
      2. Using CNC, I can set it up but I cannot run it in a full display mode .  The main screen shows in around 2/3 of the display and does not scale / stretch at all.  When running a skirmish, the game display is slightly bigger than the one I experience in point 1. above but only slightly and I cannot play it due to display/resolution limitations.

Wonder if there is a specific Radeon setup I should use or any fixes that I should use to have a working game.
      Thanks in advance
      Fubar
