Does it actually look like that ingame, or only on the recording? Because I've seen an "issue" on my brother's PC with the gamne hanging like that. Turned out it wasn't an error per se, but just a gigantic slowdown. After a couple of minutes the menu did appear as normal. Overall... did you try fiddling with compatibility modes? From my work on the EA Answers forum, the game runs best when ran in WinXP SP3 mode.

Straightforward bugs are not "game oddities" -_- Also, remember my Rule #1 of playing old games. They added crushable sandbags and walls you can't build from in RA exactly because of the problems they got with those things in C&C1. That's just improvement of the next generation, nothing else. Doesn't mean they have to go back and patch those same things into C&C1; they had a new game to focus on.

Back in the day I originally made my patch I didn't have access to the extra space inside the exe that CCHyper hacked into it later. Because I needed space to put the high-resolution support code, I kicked out tons of that old 320x200 code back then. After the exe got expanded, I doubt I ever cleaned up that code. So I'm afraid that in the 1.06 version, rather than going towards enabling it, I wrecked a ton of it Not below 640x400. It plain doesn't work. I think I built minimum checking into that in the exe, but if I didn't, it'd most likely crash immediately from attempting to play the opening video in 640X400.

Ahh. The Origin launchers are kind of broken; they don't pass through most command line parameters. You need Bibber's fixed launchers to use command line options like that on the Origin version.

Invest in a good sturdy dosbox. C&C95 contains tons of leftover dos code, but it's not applied consistently. No idea on the actual ingame interface, but I'm fairly sure it'd crash on any WSA animation or VQA video.

Which release of the game are you playing? This was a common problem in The First Decade. Heck, I even made a fix for that problem in TFD.

Yes. Once it's set by XCC Mixer all the other programs can use it. Make sure to start XCC Mixer in Administrator mode, though, or it won't be able to write any settings into the registry. (This is a general truth. XCC Mixer doesn't work well unless ran in admin mode)

What does the crash popup say? These popups usually give an indication of what actually went wrong.

" downgraded to windows 7" from what? The games need 16 bit colour mode set to run windowed, and as far as I know, only win10 offers that as simple compatibility option. Your issue with the config files getting reset seems like a whole different issue. Are you running the game as administrator? Where is the game installed? Also, you can start the game windowed just by making it launch with the "-w" command line option. (or is that -win? Not sure...)
