Command & Conquer: Dawn of Tomorrow teaser thread
AchromicWhite replied to Kilkakon's topic in Modding Discussion
I guess I'm mostly used to the original, so it looks strange, but that's to be expected. Personally I like to have the buildings either look functional/militaristic, so I like the darker one. -Liam -
Chem is dangerous but very beatable. He, like many Nod players, are addicted to light vehicles and apaches. Need to teach Nod players to use flame weapons/arty to deal with the infantry, else it often just turns into a base race, haha. Need to have the satisfaction of good engagements... mmmmmm, good engagements *drool* I want to see all the units used, damn it! xD -Liam
-
Indeed, there are a couple of RA1 to C&C1 mods out there. Maybe if someone wanted to heavily mod C&C1 they could do something like that, but I think it'd actually be hard to find a player base for it.
-
Yeah, I have OBS, but it makes the game run super slow and if I try to run it on game/window mode, it crashes the game. Unless I'm just not getting the settings quite right, IDK -Liam
-
Yeah, I think a refit of weapons on the raider is the way to go. You could even make it fire the quad weapon and then change ordos to have trike and raider, so that the raider is replacing the quad in the ordos army. -Liam
-
Yeah, this is why I wanted to make cnc tutorial vids, but have had a lot of trouble getting to record. Maybe I should just buy bandicam?
-
Did you make the Wind Trap cost a bit more (seems to balance it out, you should still have to pay for the power). And I still really want to see Ordos use the raider more! Maybe make it even quicker or something, I'm not sure. Maybe even nerf quad/trike speed so that it's faster in comparison? Other than that, it sounds pretty good. But I'm no expert at D2K -Liam

I still like tib garden more than HJK6 and P4 and stuff like that. Just big squares and a big patch of tib in the middle. Pretty much 0% design phase for those maps. It's very restrictive for TD to have so much tib in the middle, like that; blocking the entire route to the enemy base. And then only having a single entrance to the base area. Makes for very restricted play on what will and wont work. I do hope that our mappers look at all the units in the game, and when they make their maps, think about how it would make each unit more usable. Seriously, our Nod players almost never make SSM or arty and even flame tank is taking a back seat... AND FLAME TANK IS AWESOME! bikes buggies, gg, lol. Makes for a sad game when you've seen it a million times. It also meas you don't have to think much about unit composition. -Liam

Indeed, the pathing is fucked. And I can see that as more of a serious issue for Nod, as it's often about quick reinforcement, hit and run strats. Without that, you've got serious problems. I just get bored using the same few units over and over, so I tried to make maps that I thought would give advantages to more units, and I think I did that... I just found out how broken some of the programming is on this old gem. -Liam
-
haha, yeah, map picks are a bit 'each to their own', but I certainly like having more terrain to work with, bases that are closed, but still have more than 1 entrance, then an area which opens up a bit more, and then finally a middle area, where you're free to move around a bit and pick your fights. Open maps are... well they're open, so nothing to work with Maybe I'm just getting used to StarCraft though. -Liam
-
Right, yeah, that makes sense. Still, would be a neat opener to a mission, for Nod esp (different, at least) -Liam
-
That could make for a really cool mission. Capture a comm center and use it to break into another area and then set up a base, etc. Also, I wonder if you'd keep the airstrikes, even if the comm center dies, or maybe if you still have one you'd keep it? -Liam

I'm still around, often (but have been playing SCII lately) and I think Ferret is in from time to time. Lovehandles is around, but doesn't seem to play very much, unfortunately. I usually use cnc95 to calm down, as SCII requires so much more multitasking that it fries my brain, somewhat. -Liam

Yeah, I love this stuff -
You can remap hotkeys using ccconfig.exe

Didn't listen to Nyer? Gonna have a bad time -Liam Should make a meme for that...

For me, it'd just be the units that we hardly ever see. (the point about bikes is a lack of ability to beat them, which can be fixed by making proper counters). but bike crushing is a good point. -MRLS (comm tech, and either price drop or up the HP) -Chem troops (lower tech, lower price or up HP) maybe even totally change them, to give them something more similar to the gren, so that they can be used in groups without killing your own stuff, and so that they're different from the flamer. -Stealth tanks (again, lower price or up HP, some might disagree with this, but I'd like to see them used more) -MAYBE Apache (lower ammo? higher tech for flyers, like comm?) This is the only one I'd want to nerf. I THINK that's all. -Liam
-
Pretty much says it all. I don't know why, but suddenly, IF I'm hosting the game, when I click launch and the game launches, but the other person's name wont appear in the connecting box and the game wont start. I tried using different servers, as well. -Liam You'd think I could just join the game, but then people start with 99 units and 99999999999 credits. sigh...

Why do people feel the need to rebalance games?
AchromicWhite replied to Myg's topic in General Discussion
"Using the scientific approach, we started with the relatively simple idea that in a steady state units with an equivalent cost should do equivalent damage to one another. The basic idea is that if I have $1,000 worth of units and you have $1,000 worth of units and they fight, the fight better be really close. From here, we kept adding variables until we had a relatively playable game." Then why the hell are so many units in TS, even units that are not 'special' units, totally suck? -

That would maybe be quite cool anyway, though. It seems a bit strange that you'd just come across a door and then open up with your M-16 on it! -Liam -
Yes, indeed, the first 3 are free, but I've previously used my TFD for C&C95. With all the updates and stuff, I've just switched to using the downloads that hare here, though. -Liam
-
I'd be pretty happy if you check out classic rev, to be honest. I put quite a lot of work into the balance of that game. See if you can find someone to play online with Hope you enjoy it. (if you have any problems, just hit me up) -Liam
-
haha, if you could send them to me, I could probably paint them xD But if someone is unskilled with painting, it can often end up making it worse

Well, it looks great, none the less. Yeah, spawning troops does sound like an issue haha -
You think that the music is fine, considering that the game is now free, no? It's not like we couldn't just rip it from the game and convert it ourselves -.- It's just be nice for people to be able to easily access the stuff.
