Forums have undergone an update

Hello everyone,

The forums have undergone a conversion from our old software to IPB. It took a little longer than expected which explains why our forums were offline earlier in the day.

Thanks for your patience, if you notice anything a bit wonky feel free to private message us or post back. 

P.s you may have also spotted a new "feel" or "theme" going on, it will all interlink with our new website (coming soon).

What happened to the avatars? There's not even a section for them in the profile info...

It could be some remotely hosted avatars didn't make it over during the upgrade, or some avatars got lost. Who knows. You should be able to add your avatar back though.

Hey don't know if this is discussed some other topic yet, but what happened to all the attachments on messages? Was this done on purpose or accident. hopefully this (pretty awesome) theme is able to restore them if it was not on purpose

Also, the older and better theme (pre-cncnet cnc-comm theme) got blasted too, it appears.

It's a new forum software so the old themes are not working anymore. But you should be able to switch to a alternative theme at the bottom of the page

I like this pop-out menu hovering over the background thing, but how do you edit your post if you make a mistake?

*edit oh ok, you just can't edit old posts.

On a related note, doesn't seem like that "Global moderator" tag under my name actually allows me to, y'know... moderate anything.

I think "CnCNet Team" was a better label than just "Developer".

My avatar also got reversed to its previous version. But other than that, I'm enjoying this update.

Links to specific forum topics/pages don't seem to be working. Like for example, I just googled:

-> red alert 2 maps (without quotes)

-> then clicked on my map topic "RA2 & YR Maps - A ginormous collection of maps! - CnCNet"

it took me to the front page of the forum instead of the topic's page. Same with other links to specific topics here.

 

Also, it's a little annoying how if you copy a link from Google (or from anywhere else) then paste it onto your post, such as this one, it automatically turns it into a link, even though you didn't want it to be a link in your post, just a normal sentence. You have to either double-click that new link on your post then click "Remove Link", or right-click on your post while holding Ctrl, then click "Paste without formatting". Is there a way to create/edit posts using <tags> ?

Yeah, even the thread IDs are different. It's going to be a mess to re-link old topics

The transition messed up a lot of permission related things, but they should be fixed now.

• Posts should be editable for an unlimited amount of time
• Everyone should be able to see attachments
• Everyone should be able to download attachments
• Anyone registered should be able to upload attachments

Things that are work in progress:

• Restoring old similes/emoticons
• Links
• Restoring ranks
• Other things that show up 

If enough people want a cnc-comm style theme I guess I'll make one when I have time

Go to your profile and click on the lower left corner of the profile picture there is an almost invisible icon there currently.

Will there be a support for the classical TD-style theme later?

There may be some custom backgrounds that can be chosen at some point in the future. Ideally we'd like to keep one theme as it's less maintenance.

Up to @Tore whether he wants to make a separate theme.
